The way she said ‘Angos, Meleys’ twice with completely different emotions was so moving. Eve Best is really underrated. You will be missed, The Red Queen and The Queen who should’ve been.
I was very sad for Rhaenys and Meleys, shed tears for them. But watching Sunfyre giving Aegon a lil bro fist pump and you could tell that Aegon is happy when he is with his dragon. And you can tell that Sunfyre is the only one to actually love Aegon, his only true friend 😢

Honestly as terrible as Aegon is, especially to his maids, the show really humanizes him. He genuinely doesn't have an adult for guidance, saved for Cole. His mom only scolds him, his grandfather thinks he is a puppet, his brother is a psycho, his wife/sister is on a spectrum, his late father is negligent. Cole and SunFyre is the closest thing he has to an actual friend
Not to mention that MY GOD was Sunfyre gorgeous. Like holy crap what a magnificent creature. He was a regal and well suited mount for his Rider. Their downfall is so tragic if not somewhat deserved for Aegon’s decisions and lack of experience in war. Such an epic and heartbreaking episode, and it’ll only get more wild from here
I thought Helena's "I forgive you" moment was because her baby died as a consequence of Cole not fulfilling his guard duty since he was fudging around with Alicent.
at the end of the day, halenas words are always ambiguous. being a dragon dreamer, her words can interpreted to be for the past, present or future.

Team Black lost a major loyalist, fighter and powerhouse. RIP to the queen that never was and Melyes. She was my favorite character. She and her dragon were valiant until the very end. My heart sank seeing them fall from the sky😢

This is why so many of us refer to the greens as Hightowers and not Targaryens. There's no way a TRUE Targaryen would 1: abandon the colours of their house and 2: parade around/make a mockery of the very symbol of said house (the dragon) in the streets for all to see. A disgrace!

Yeah cause if aegon, visenya, rhaenys, maegor and jahaerys as well as viserys were alive they would be rolling in their graves for this they would never do this you didn’t see maegor do this yes he killed another dragon yes people saw it but that was it he never paraded a dead dragon around to weaken house Targaryen and if anyone was to do this it would be maegor but he didn’t which is why the greens are now fumbling idiots.
In the book, however, Rhaenyra changes her coat of arms completely, while Aegon only makes the dragon on the banner gold.

At first, I was confused why we were getting a Dance adaption before the Conquest but now I understand. In GoT we saw the Targaryen house fall with the death of Daenerys. House of the Dragon is the decline.
By parading around a dragon head, you're showing the smallfolk that a dragon is not invinsible. They can be killed. Brilliant foreshadowing.
The Hightowers are weakening House Targaryen and they dont even know it.
When Rhaenys hooked her strap and tightened her saddle belt, she knew she was going down. Meyles and she were one. They were not going down without a fight. Both loyal to each other till the end. Such a good episode.

Ironically this parade with meleys heads could be the setup for the storming of the dragon pit. This display showed the people of kings landing that the dragons were not untouchable and that the house of dragon was weak and vulnerable.

This Battle at Rook’s Rest with the dragons was incredible. Very sad Vhagar, previously ridden by Baelon Targaryen, and Meleys, previously ridden by Alyssa Targaryen, spent so much time together and now had to battle each other to unaliving.

@@pacwest5153 And if certain lore theories are correct (and I am convinced these specific ones are) then an imprint of Laena was still in Vhagar in some way. Which makes it kind of matricide in a weird indirect way and would be another subtle example of old dragons like Vhagar who have had many riders being able to impose their will over their riders'. I suspect a similar thing happened when Belarion took Araea to the East.
This isn't hard proof of anything, but how did Vhagar know to bathe Aegon in flame instead of Rhaenys? Aemond just said "Dracarys." He didn't specify who and he can't "aim" Vhagar that precisely. So, Vhagar had to have some kind of psychic connection or something to know Aemond's intention. There is something tangible there beyond the act of claiming the dragon. We see it when dragons and riders cry out in pain in unison..which has happened at least 2 clear times in HotD.
There is lots of book lore to suggest this "imprinting" happens even more strongly when Greenseers "worg/skinchange" into beasts. Like if I worged into a dire wolf and then someone killed me while I was worged - I would live on in some form inside the dire wolf. My consciousness. But it's impossible to know if it is "REALLY" me or a ghostly psychic copy. It may fade with time even. But this particular concept triggered for me when Alys Rivers said she was a barn owl cursed to live in human form. Sounds to me like someone who spent too long worged into an owl, forgot they were human, and then were forced back into their body when the owl died of age or something. That would, theoretically, mean that a permanent echo of that owl's soul/consciousness lives inside Alys forever.
Not any real proof for the whole "life after death psychic echo" thing. But there are also no holes in it at all...which make it compelling.
Bonus - Dragons don't just follow trained commands. They actually fully comprehend Valyrian. This is demonstrated when Vhagar obeys Aemond. He just says, "wait, not yet". I also don't think it is only Valyrian. Sunfyre is perhaps the first dragon in the history of the world that has been primarily spoken to by their rider in plain English. So, when Aegon gave him commands in English, he understood them. The dragonkeepers didn't teach him that! So, he learned English from interacting with Aegon. MEANING!!!...That dragon's comprehension of Valyrian isn't the product of old magicks as many theorize...but it is, in fact, because of their intelligence. That's a game changer from a lore perspective for me.

Which is why I will always see Vhagar as the most unpredictable, terrifying, and sketchy dragon, because of Visenya's imprint within her. I believe no matter who rode her her imprint/essence will always trump the others. Which is why Aemond fails to fully tame or control her, and why when she got pissed at Syrax? She just destroyed him lol. The audacity and disrespect that young dragon showed her. Her response felt like something Visenya would have done in an instant without a thought.
Plus I honestly believe that is why I think Vhagar allowed Aemond to claim her, because part of Visenya's imprint/essence saw something in Aemond like how she saw something in her son Maegor.
@@JaayCeez I agree that the dragon's first imprint has a hundred-fold bigger impact than any subsequent rider. I think that is born out pretty subtly but repeatedly in HotD when we're shown riders with dragons who had been ridden by others vs dragons like Moondancer, Vermax, Tyraxes, Syrax, Vhagar, etc. that were all born to their riders. Caraxes and Daemon get along well despite Caraxes not being hatched to Daemon. But Daemon is already definitely the blood of the dragon. He is all about fire and blood. So, choosing a mount with the style of Blood Wyrm doesn't seem so out-of-character.
Caraxes first rider was Aemon Targaryen, Daemon's Uncle. Who, at the time of his birth, was also a second son. Aemon and Caraxes also went to war in Dorne in a naval engagement and against islands...Maybe the coincidental similarities are why they get along so well...like Aemond and Vhagar.
Imagine the last 10 minutes of this episode in IMAX. 🤯

I've not been a big fan of how the dragons looked in past GOT shows.. but I must be honest.. the dragons in this series have looked amazing.. and dragon fights have looked absolutely outstanding.. big props to the effects and art design departments for this show.. they have hit a grand slam.. bravo👏 👏👏
It helps that we see so many with such individual designs. It also helps to remember all of Danys dragons were siblings from the same mother (Dreamfyre) which is why they all basically look the same. Same way all of Syrax babies (Vermax, Arrax and Tyraxee all looked the same).
I KNOW. Did you see the detail on Sunfyre? He's described in the book by a maester as "the most beautiful dragon ever in the known world" and he really was with his 24k gold scales and rose gold wings! He didn't deserve what happened to him.

it's been already 6 years till GOT ended. A lot happend in the tech department (CGI, KI, AI etc.) constantly evolving. They just have better options now as back in 2019.

Aegon has had it the worst in the series. Bro was neglected by both parents, manipulated by his mother and grandfather to be king and usurp his sister, was never educated on how to be king and even said he didnt want it, was then forced to be king and is ridiculed by everyone for being a, surprise surprise, bad king and now his jealous and vengeful brother has burnt him alive because he teased him in a brothel.
Obviously Aegon isn’t some great dude. He sends his bastards to the fighting pits and is a ra*ist so perhaps this is karma, but I cant help but feel bad for him knowing how he was brought up, seeing that he was actually somewhat of a likable older brother figure that liked to poke somewhat good natured fun at his brother and nephews and now seeing him burned alive by his brother. Idk its just tragic. Its like seeing two people that grew up once happy start destroying each other in adulthood, its sad. seeing this dude say “thank the gods” seeing Aemond supposedly come to save him after he’s had a horrible day just for Aemond to callously burn him with a nuclear weapon, fall thousands of feet to the ground with Aemond about to finish you off with his sword. It just makes you say thats rough buddy.

despite losing meleys and rook's rest, green suffers more than 800 dead soldiers, incapicitating sunfyre and the king. while blacks only lost 100 men. this will cause significant delay for criston cole to advance to harrenhal, giving enough time for riverlords to assemble their army for daemon. with 1 dragon at disposal for greens, DALTON GREYJOY will be free to raid the lannisters and the reach with out worry that a dragon will burn their fleet. MELEY and rhaenys, didn't die in vain. They carve the path for blacks' early victory battles.

Yes I thought it was Alys Rivers voice as well which would make sense given Daemon’s vivid dreams and waking hallucinations/prophecies - except I don’t believe that she is saying it to Daemon I think she is saying this or will say this in the future to Aemond because I’m sure that Aemond ends up marrying Alys Rivers.

Christian Cole is many gross things but he is definitly ambitious and strategic.. he didnt become HOTK because of pure luck.. he ingratiated himself with Alicent's sons earning their trust, whispering in their ear and constantly being supportive. Yes, he hates Rhaneyra which is crazy to me and lets me know he's still in love with her on some level.. but I think his relationship with Alicent was one of self loathing and mutually beneficial.. he has risen greatly under Alicent.. Otto NEVER liked him and would have gotten rid of him long ago and now.. he doesnt need alicent at all..

@@mbwizax87 in the books, sunfyre and vhagar attack together. in the show, they make aemon try to kill his brother, but in the books, he can't help his brother because sunfyre and meleys are so close together, also its meleys who burn sunfyre and aegon. after they fall, vhagar burn rhaenys and bite meleys in the neck, tears her wings. rhaenys is already a burnt crisp body before meleys fall

It is not true that they aren’t fireproof, this is absolutely proof that they are in fact. Dragonfire is IMMENSELY more hot and powerful than a funeral pyre, If Vhagar and Meleys were being ridden by two Dornish people or another race then after the two dragons untangled, their riders would have been charred skeletons. It is proof that Targaryen do have magic in their blood.

Aemond is the only person involved that seems to understand basic military theory such as concentration of force and defeat-in-detail. He thinks like a tank commander IRL. He knows that a dragon's biggest threat is other dragons, so he stays hidden until he knows what the blacks send. He knows he can beat any of them 1v1, but not 1v5 against all of them. The blacks fell for his ambush in the worst way possible by sending only one of their strongest, alone.

Aemond was sheathing his blade right before Criston called out to him. It makes sense he would’ve been drawn walking thru the forest on the way to Sunfyre after an active battle. He definitely isn’t trying to help Aegon survive, he’s been indifferent to his life since he was crowned heir. He just has been so obiguious with his intentions, it’s easy to assume he’s not gonna STOP Aegon from dying on his watch (and with some assistance from Aemond lmfao of course)

Because Rhaenys didn't want to kill Aemond or Aegon, only disable their dragons. Her "Attack" command was a less serious kind of attack than "Dracarys", which is a much more powerful type of attack.
To mebit seemed that rhaenys didnt wanted to back off for honorable and tactical reasons, but she also looked like she wanted to end it all and die. She was carrying that crux since she wasnt appointed rightfully as queen and also regretted the kind of life that followed because of that. She had a good life with corlis, but i think that ultimately seeing her kingdom destined to an inevitable bloodbath got the best of her at the end of her life. She was tired of all that madness
I actually think that Aemon was going to let Rhaenys go, she kept coming back for more, he was not chasing her. RIP

After rewatching the scene of aemond walking up to aegon, I didn’t get the impression that he was going to finish him, but instead just sheathing his sword to bend and pick up the dagger. The shot of him holding his sword and looking back, he was 15-20 feet away from aegon so i think he was just sheathing his sword, though the showrunners made it appear he had other motives
aemond wasnt drawing the sword, he had his sword in his hand while walking and as soon as he saw aegon, he was going to put away the sword in its scabbard. thats when cole calls him and he looks back

Aegon is a pretty tragic character all things considered. He's been through a lot and as far as GoT/HotD characters go, he wasn't that villainous or bloodthirsty. In the end, he was a kid who's been thrown into this mess not really willingly and paid huge cost for that.

For example when they show Vhagar stepping all over hightower soldiers. Mirrors the battle in episode 2 when Daemon was trying to find the crab feeder and caraxes step all over his own men.
Aemond saw the glyphs. He got distracted by Cole so they faded before he picked it up. But he saw them. And the whole Aemond speaking velaryan last episode was to show he would see them but Aegon wouldn’t ever realize their importance.

I'm curious if future episodes will explore the consequences of Cole's tactics, particularly the instances where they backfire. For instance, sending a twin to assassinate Rhaenyra ultimately results in the loss of both twins and his plot to capture Rook's Rest which ends in significant damage to their army and Aegon. And perhaps the council finding out about his relationship with Alicent, especially that time when blood and cheese happened. Can't wait for Cole to die.

They have cameoed each of the Dragonseeds in at least a single scene. Rhaena’s scene of being sent away and feeling useless really fits into the her being Nettles theory.
Sword was half sheathed before Cole appeared. He had the tip in otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to motionlessly sheath it. He instead PLANNED to kill Aegon but instead he saw the glowing glyphs on the dagger. Cole interrupted and by the time he turned back around the glyphs were gone. Which is why he stared at the dagger. It is a mirror of Daemon knowing OF “A Song Of Ice & Fire” but knowing ABOUT “A Song Of Ice & Fire”. Both our edge lords will try and pursue that and both will end up near Alys Rivers. Who as a first men descendant is very much the “Ice” of the analogy for these two.
Also, the body they find is actually Daemon and Aemond becomes the first 3 eyed crow. It’s why Aegon III’s children all die for various dumb reasons and why they only regain strength when Bloodraven becomes the new 3 eyed Raven.
I’m having a hard time fully hating Aegon… especially when Sunfyre gave him that golden retriever dragon head bump to the chest. Now I just kind of pity him. I bawled my eyes out for Rhaenys and Meleys though. They deserved so much better. She was a true queen to the end. 😢💔🐉 This whole episode really highlighted the bond of dragons and their riders, loved it.
