After all these years I still find it totally RIDICULOUS that Falling Angel wasn't featured on the standard edition of The Wedding Album. For me, it is my favourite track of The Wedding Album period. I bought the 2 CD edition in the 90s and Falling Angel got me INSTANTLY! It also should have been a single, it is so beyond STUNNNNING after all these decades. Simons vocals on the final bit 'I don't believe at all' always gives me shivers. PERFECT TRACK *
I don't. Okay, so it's likely that the influx of this with its attendants from the bonus disc ('Stop Dead' & 'Time For Temptation' would raise the album's standard higher but why should it? If "The Wedding Album" can't be the best Duran album of the 90s, it's not this song's fault. 'TWA' had 'Ordinary World' on it, it doesn't NEED this, which is likely too elegant and forlorn for such a brash and heavily pounding record. It's the FOLLOWING albums of the 90s with their attending weaknesses that need this song, but actually, no, the reality IS this song (and the 2 mentioned with it)) are soo good, they need to be on a non-albumed collection for the 90s/2000s, which which sound much stronger than an 80s B-sides/non-album collection would, more proof they did NOT pick with the 80s, unlike many. It IS a PERFECT TRACK, this compares beautifully with the strongest one from the 2010s ('Cinderella Ride') left off an album, alongside next strongest ones like 'Valentine Stones', 'Northern Lights', 'Planet Roaring' & 'Laughing Boy', but generally Duran know just what to put on their albums, and here is no exception with "The Wedding Album". The only time this ever failed was with their weakest and worst original album-the silly, almost aimless and drifty "Seven And Ragged Tiger", an album so bereft of even a main hit/top song that I have to peel of the criminally confined "B-side" to their worst ever A-side single choice of the 80s (and for some distance until the covers singles and the 'Sunrise' song equalled it cos I'd have no fave song on that bleeding album if that beauty ballad wasn't put on it! The idiots!
This song is criminally overlooked, I simply don’t understand why this music is completely ignored by the band, it’s one of their best songs ever and, along with Salt In The Rainbow and Secret October, are the greatest hidden gems of the band's entire discography, except that neither it, nor Salt In The Rainbow, are featured on any B-sides collection, on Spotify or even on the band's website… who can understand this?
I couldn't agree more. It's a fantastic song and the only reason I bought the 2CD edition when it came out at the time. The song gets even better towards the end
It’s incredible the quantity of high class b sides DD has, this song is amazing, so is Salt in The Rainbow, Secret October and so many others criminally not included songs in any of their studio albums
This record helped me through the loss of my Mum. I couldn't believe I'd never encountered it before, and yet it could not have arrived at a more opportune time. It is an absolute beauty.
Wow, I've loved DD since the 80's and this is my first time hearing this song. It's beautiful and something about it has a funky 60's psychedelic vibe, mixed with the 80's synth, which takes it to another level altogether 😊! Simon never disappoints. He has such an amazing range. I love how this band has evolved over time!
I agreed with the other comments too, SettingSon79. They should have removed Femme Fatale out of their 1993 self-titled album & replace it with this song. Another words, this song should have came after U.M.F. & before None Of The Above on their 1993 wedding album.
@@frankielucero8372 Wrong. Nothing wrong with that cover, and actual, this beautiful song NEEDS to be part of their unalbumed stuff as they didn't do much of it that we know of, so far. They've a canny knack for making albums correct, but unlike a few other of my fave artists, they don't always have killer instincts for B-sides or demos! What you SHOULD be saying is this fine song SHOULD have been a non-album single released AFTER the "Wedding Album's" single run had finished. I've now heard a number of B-sides/unreleased demos by them, and enough to know that IS one of THE best of the lot.
No, that album's got enough stuff on it, it don't need this, it's THIS song that NEEDS attention all by itself and THEY should have made it a single all by itself AFTER their album run of singles had stopped. Their bad! Plus, they non-album/B-side stuff doesn't have the same regular quality their albums do, so this song, 'A Matter Of Fact' (an even MORE lost gem), 'Stop Dead' and 'Time For Temptation' are badly needed to bulk up a fluctuating in quality mass of non-album stuff.
I love this song, the lyrics, Simon's beautiful voice. The music everything is just beautiful. I close my eyes and just get into this song along with all the rest of Duran Duran's music. This song should have reached #1 on the charts.
@@johnrappaport3105 Yes you can say this about the best people, but actually many of you fans miss the point. The problem is not often WHAT is released it's TOO FEW are picked! Now put this up against overrated tits like Dep Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Simply Red,George Michael, U2 and utter shit like Madness, Michael Jackson and sister, Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Bon Jovi, Spamhead Ballet, Bee Gees, Kylie Minogue, UB40 & vilest of the lot-slagdonna-they all get half the bloody album from EACH one! AND ALL THESE ACTS get DOUBLE A-sides TOO! WHEN has Duran EVER done that, even ONCE?! Most acts do this about 5x a decade EVERY DECADE?! You think this is bad. Try a masterpiece, career-best like "Notorious"-that album's SOO PERFECT, it's utterly FULL of singles, yet pathetically only 3 came off! None of my faves came off (though they changed several times over the years, such competition, but where they rest now-NONE of mine EVER came off) yet NONE of the singles were WRONG from the album, they just WEREN'T ENOUGH! And no double-A's either!! The same thing is even worse now as no singles market and been full of shit for ever. SO when other masterpiece albums come out ("Red Carpet Massacre", "All You Need Is Now") they basically get 2 if even that. And once, twice, many times again, NONE of my faves ever picked, yet many times again, the singles NOT WRONG CHOICES! Just NOT ENOUGH SINGLES PUT OUT!
They should be having tonnes of No.1's on chart-in fact 'The Reflex' is likely their most unworthiest No.1. It's just not an important song at all, and not the typically classy thing they fill their albums with. Mind you it WAS representative of the substandard material off the album it's from, where the best song is NOT even on it, but criminally relegated to the B-side of their worst A-side choice for some distance till the covers album and 'Sunrise' song came around!
For me this song is very much like Beautiful Colours and Secret Oktober. It's really one of the best songs of the entire Wedding Album songs and it didn't even make the main album!!! UGHX!!!!!!!!
