Brake Master Cylinder Replacement on a 1978 MGB!

- Here I replace the old Master Cylinder on my 1978 MGB with a new one from Moss Motors. I also had to replace a short stretch of rubber brake line in the rear of the car that was clogged and prevented brake bleeding. This rubber line was also from Moss Motors.

Great walk through as ever. Brakes are an intimidating thing. I keep meaning to drain the fluid out of my mine and replace with fresh, but it keeps dropping down my ToDo list as I've never really done it before. Remember my Dad getting me to do the pedal press years ago when I was a kid though! :-)
My '79 MGB & my dad's '63 MGB get Castrol Gt LMA DOT 4 for the bake & clutch.
Dr. D, where did you get the master cylinder bleeder kit? I’m looking for one and they are all made for two ports.
I may have had to buy two kits if I remember correctly. 😕

Tried this today and I think my master cylinder is shot. I replaced the seals but I get air bubbles coming up from the piston area into the bottom of the reservoir every time I press in the plunger. I live near the Victoria British MG parts store so I’ll pick up another master cylinder tomorrow after work and try again.

Ok Dr.D here is my question. I have a 76 MGB and recieved it in parts from my sons wife's grandfather and it was all in parts. So I had to purhase a new master cylinder and also a new servo unit. It is the duel brake type and is the 49 dollar one from Moss. Nobody can tell me for sure if it needs a seal where the two pieces meet and also on the old master cylinder has a metal cap that fits over the seal and of course the old unit is smaller than the new one. Is there a difference with these new units and they dont require the seal set up or is there some place where I can get the corect pieces. Moss motors hasn't really given me a totally satisfying answer. Any help would truely be appreciated. Thank you. Roy

I have a 1977 MGB Roadster with 45,000 original miles. I drove it out of my garage and noticed that there was no brake pressure. So I checked the Master Break Cylinder fluid reservoir to my surprise, it was extremely low. I opened and added DOT3 to the full line market.
My question is, what are some possible reasons why the fluid would be gone?
I own a 1977 MGB Roadster. It has 42,000 original miles. I drove it out of my garage to find that the Master Break Fluid (MBC) reservoir was just about empty. I opened and added DOT 3 as the reservoir instructed.
So what are some possibilities why the reservoir would be that low?
The clutch peddle is also very soft!
Any recommendations?
