    I did this on my mondeo / fusion 2015. Took the park brake motor off and wound it then pushed the calliper in. Stupid me, while I had the first caliper off I pressed the park brake switch to on (don't ask why) and it extended the piston all the way. After that I noticed some brake fluid on the rubber boot of the piston. Not sure if I stuffed it. Anyway, after winding it back manually and pushing the piston in, I out it all back together. Problem is now I've got a park brake fault message, and when I press the park brake I can here the motor run for about 30 seconds as if it isn't attached to anything. Wish I'd never touched that button. Now my pedal feels really soft and I'm worried about moving the car. Obviously it needa bleeding but can't do it in my own. Will have to take it to the mechanic.

      The ECU in the car will stop the actuator when it meets resistance each way, the battery method won't, even if you are careful with a battery, you risk damaging the internals of the actuator.
      If you don't have a scan tool, phone app etc. then it's best to remove the actuator.

    You should never leave your calliper hanging by the brake line and the calliper bracket should be torqued to specs and lock tight used on the bolts as well to retract the piston with a C clamp and a piece of metal on the back of the motor to prevent it from cracking the casing.

      @Ally.MacMillan Před měsícem

      How does a piece of metal on the back of the motor prevent t from cracking, exactly???
      Never use a clamp with the motor attached, In fact, it’s best not to use a clamp on this type of brake caliper with the motor removed either, unless you are very careful not to damage the bush and the drive at the back, but then you can’t mount the clamp centrally, so it’s just best not to do it on these types of caliper.
