Thank you for posting this video. I did not use your plans but I could see how you put yours together well enough. I used 2 X 3 rails for the supports instead of 2 x 2 but I now have a structure that accommodates 25 bins exactly like yours in our lower floor storage room. We loved the concept and now we are enjoying the convenience since we can access each bin without having to pull the others. Superb idea. Current lumber prices made this a $500+ Canadian dollars build but we think it was worth it.

I can't wait to do this in the garage. We have a ton of these bins that we picked up from costco when we were moving. This will really help us to get organized as we unpack and organize the house. Plus, we saved a ton of the leftover material from the build, so we have a lot of 2x4s on hand that we can utilize.

I can't wait to do this!! I have so many different storage bins and this set up will work perfectly! I keep all of my holiday decorations in my bins and it's difficult to pull them out. Your video made it seem pretty easy for me to do (hubby is laid up with a broken ankle).

This is a great plan! I would like to organize my wife’s holiday decoration area in the garage. Right now, we have several different sizes of boxes sitting free style against one wall. Very inefficient. This plan would maximize the space I have for the decorations she has!
Be careful, you’ll start referring to holidays based on how many bins they fill!

Hey thanks DD, this is similar to what I have been thinking about doing for my storage solution in a new pickup truck canopy that I'm about to have installed. I will be building a narrow (24 in wide) camping bed with storage below it on the drivers side area, but I think that a rack like yours would work great on the opposite passenger side space. I would also top it off with a piece of plywood or melamine type material for use as a table top/shelf. Please let me know how I can get the plans.

You are somewhat dependant on bins that match a specific width being available long into the future, but this is definitely an efficient system at least in the short and medium term.
You certainly want to design for all the bins in a column to be the same width but you could vary the width between different columns! I suppose if everyone discontinues manufacturing this very common bin you'd have to move the columns to accommodate a new size.
I guess the bins will last long time.... in my case, longer than myself for sure :). great idea !
@@DadoDad that's what I plan to do. I believe I have three different gallon sizes of totes I could accommodate on here. Just need to inventory them first and then it's a go. Thanks for the plans and great idea!!
You've always got to pick a design constraint. To be fair to this choice, these specific bins have been around for over 10 years now. They're definitely super popular so that should help extend their shelf life (hehe)
@@Trenz0true. This system is certainly orderly, but it looks like there's a lot of wasted space. Both what you can see, between bins, and inside each bin. I get the appeal, though
I would use this for all of our storage bins for decorations, kids clothes, memorabilia, etc.. love it!

Fantastic solution for storage! I’m excited to build for shed storage, I use these type of bins to store camping, hiking, kayaking and backyard entertainment/games and just grab the appropriate bin and go at a moment’s notice but they are just stacked. This is the perfect way to store them in an organized fashion.

Love the simplicity yet strength this offers, I just got 16 27-Gal totes because I’m overwhelmed with unsightly stuff all over open plastic shelves that offer no real storage, I’d use your system to get a good rack built so I can safely store everything I’d ever want to store and with so many large bins I have room to grow but still keep it clean and organized. Nice job keeping it strong but so simple and Thank You for Sharing.

These are awesome and they look simple enough to be able to customize to any size totes that are at least the same width.

This looks really great! It makes a really good storage system, which for me means it would make sense to make the shelving self standing rather than built in place so it can be moved and reused. A sheet of plywood or diagonal 1x4 strapping across the back would definitely help secure it against racking over, and then a few screws into the wall to keep it from tipping over.
