When you consider how thoroughly he thrashed and continues to antagonize and show inimity for Vegeta and Tien particularly, even Krillin a bit, it almost occurs to me that since yamcha's amongst the people who's DNA makes him up, I got imagined that the little part of Cell that's Yamcha was finally standing up to everyone who gave him shit
I really like what they're saying with Cells and Krillins relation, because it really hypes Krillin up. Because he hasn't given in, because he still fights Cell, Cell mocks him. But it shows that Cell mocking him is better then Cell being friendly in that case.
Tbh, Yamcha isn't even all that antagonistic to Cell either, so I think Cell is just like "You're not a worthwhile opponent like Goku, and you haven't pissed me off like Tien, you don't get in my way like Krillin, and you're polite and humble towards me, unlike Vegeta. I'll still kill you eventually, but you're the only person I might feel just a tiny bit bad about killing. ...Might."
Pretty sure Cell's absorbed the memories of his victims. One of those victims might of known Satan's past. He might also be telling Mr. Satan he knows his history.

@@chriso1373 I mean, in Super, they're pretty much his entire PR agency, so it's not like they were entirely wasted. Piiza was also featured in the manga as the limo driver in the first chapter of Super. But I get why they removed them entirely.

“If Gohan dies, that means the world’s doomed anyways, so what will it matter?” Honestly, Goku has his head on straight. Either Goku takes Gohan to fight cell where he MIGHT win, or ChiChi keeps him at home only for Cell to kill him the same day. TFS really solidified Goku as an effective battle strategist.
@@shino4242 it takes them a full day to find the balls, even with flight and the radar, Cell would be flying off to destroy the next galaxy over before they could even get close to one.
Idk why am asking this but how op is the tri beam attack cause somhow am still questioning on how it’s able to maintain semi perfect cell in the floor. Som then is the tri beam still effective against either perfect or max cell.

I think the only way to piss him off is that you have to somehow be better then him and have more w then him. Idk if am accurate somebody can explain how to piss of a robot I say the perfect cell or we’ll Mr cell either one works right and that’s all.
I also like to interpret cell being nice to yamcha as a sort of way to also get back at vegeta. Its like “yeah i respect YAMCHA more than you”. It’s also helped by the line “and like that you’ve contributed more than vegeta”.

They said they wouldn't at first because it would really need Taka to be in on it, but now that the lockdown loosened and Taka's able to be present, I wonder if that changes the equation. If not, there's always the commentary marathon they already have (which is pretty much how I watch it these days), but I'd really love if they were able to pause the videos and do deeper dives into things like this series has allowed them to do. They learned and grew so much as a result of that (not least of which was learning how to let serious, dark scenes be serious and dark on occasion) that I'd love to hear their thoughts.
Cell having 10% of Goku’s DNA was just a loophole he exploited so he could fight Cell to protect his friends (he is programmed to fight Goku, and _only_ Goku) He has no reason to want to fright Gohan, so he doesn’t
Well in real people it doesn’t work like that. It’s not really accurate to say that everyone is simply 50% of their father’s DNA and 50% of their mother’s. Everyone’s DNA is a volatile unknown mixture of some percentage of each of their parent’s DNA plus some possible unique mutations. Gohan is 100% Gohan. Goku is 100% Goku. But Cell, not being an actual person who went through childbirth, is 10.78% Goku (or whatever the hell the number was), and therefore, these parameters… ARE ACCEPTABLE.
I always thought that the name ¨Jimmy Firecracker¨ was something you guys have invented. I would never imagine that this was his official name in the english dub.
Also don't forget, earlier when Piccolo was fighting Cell and everyone could sense it, they could pick up that Cell had everyone except Yamcha's energy. This means Yamcha is the first actual person Cell has the capacity to actually make friends with, without it being awkward.
Xander Mobus is insane. I've heard this guy in about a dozen different things, and he's never done the same voice twice. He's the Announcer in Smash 4. He's the Voices of Nerat in Tyranny. He's Joker in Persona 5. He even played Deadpool in the Vs. Cell video.
He's also Dagda from Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse. And he sounds like an Irish version of Joker, which makes it hilarious if to have the mental image of Joker saying misanthropic lines.

At anime expo several years ago, I dressed up as Jimmy Firecracker for the Masquerade event to help one of my best friends propose to his now wife. Best cosplay I ever did Edit: It was the 2015 Masquerade Event, btw, if you want to see what we did
I was just thinking he's one of the few characters my out-of-shape 35-year-old ass could cosplay. I got lasik a couple years back, so if I pulled out a pair of old glasses, I'd barely even need to dress up. Pull a suit out of the closet, make an armband, and draw a skeevy moustache on, and I'm there. I just need to work on the voice.
Jimmy and Larry are definitely two of the best side characters in the series. O e of my favorite exchanges is: "No, that's definitely crazy. Larry?" "I have been finding God throughout this entire experience."
If anything, they actually made him more heroic. Remember in the actual show he keeps trying to put off fighting Cell by pretending to have diarrhea or stomach cramps or some other excuse and then afterwards he spent most of the time cowering in terror. Here, he makes zero excuses to delay and jumps in to fight Cell right away. And even though he’s spouting off all sorts of B.S. about it being all a bunch of tricks, you can tell he actually knows or figures out that it’s real and still maintains his tough guy performance pretty much throughout
@@alexanderren1097 I mean, the OG version also was supremely confident and went straight at Cell the first time around (only starting to find excuses after he got introduced to a mountain). And the Abridged version *does* use the 'diarrhea' card too when asked to jump back in the ring later on.

@@alexanderren1097 I like how Mr Satan's lying is characterized in the Buu Shorts and in here. The main reason why he lied about beating cell is so that people would have something to look up to at the end of the Cell saga which hints that he's actually a pretty heroic guy but he's severely outmatched by everyone else.
I’m still surprised to this day that no one ever points out one of the biggest reasons for Goku being such an idiot and a terrible husband and father is that no adult in his life gave him a proper upbringing. Grandpa Gohan raised him in isolation in the wild, Roshi and Bulma never gave him a proper education, and the man’s taken more concussions than every NFL player that ever lived. No wonder he never grew up mentally, no one ever taught him anything but to fight!! No wonder he is a child mentally!🤣🤣🤣
Roshi did educate him on mathematics and literature, FYI. It was in Dragon Ball. Roshi taught regular classes (along with martial arts training) to Goku and Krillin
I was just thinking about this earlier in the week! Goku has had mentors, but after Grandpa Gohan passed away when he was a child, he's NEVER had parental figures since, and certainly nobody coming close to being a mother figure.
I like to think the reason Cell is nice to Yamcha is because he knows about the suicide in the alternate timeline, and he's like "he doesnt deserve to die like that, he deserves to be hunted down for sport like the rest of the human race."
My headcanon for why Cell likes Yamcha is because he feels bad for Yamcha’s fate in the future timeline and his so he simply treats him kind (also because he’s part goku)
I think a better punchline for 16 introducing himself would be if Goku _did_ hear 16 say he wanted to kill him and Goku actually get excited about it. "You mean I get to fight *_TWO_* really strong guys? This is the best day!"
Mr Satan probably knew all along what was going on and what he was getting into. You don't become world champion without knowing about the crazy events in the last couple of tournaments. He just had to call everything special effects to keep the audience calm, and himself; that was definitely terror in his voice when the charred corpse landed at his feet.
He totally knew. He's the the hope man. A face and voice to quell mass panic. He's really down to Earth and knows the simple minds of the horde, so he's able to calm them down. He's also the strongest character that can't use ki at all. He can pull four limousine greyhounds on a rope with his teeth and rip 3 phone books straight in half with his bare hands. Guy's no joke
@@EmperorSeth nah, he's not a total idiot. He knew that if Cell won the Earth was doomed anyways so it wouldn't matter if he died. He's gotta put on a face for the people. It's his showmanship and sportsmanship and he knows he's really a push over but sees it as a necessary evil, a symbol for people's entertainment and in cases like this, peace of mind.
The funny thing is that he call everything special effect (and that mean Cell couldn't be a serious threat to the world, special effect can't destroy the word) but in the same time he make people believe he save the world by defeating Cell.....people are stupid..
My favorite character arc of this entire series is Taka finally being able to do the outro without any extra effort. Amazing character development. Bravo, all.
Reading Dragon Ball's manga in Danish is such a trip, because it uses words nobody else uses. Like when Vegeta shows up, Cell says a line that's stuck with me forever: "THERE'S the ripe hot-house melon ... Vejita the honour-obsessed." Except that word is something I had to translate myself, because only one of my dictionaries would admit the Danish original, "ærekær", even was a word, and they still translated it to the oh-so-clunky "To be jealous of one's honor."
I really want more translations of Dragon Ball to be appreciated. I wasn't even aware of a Danish translation! There are probably dozens out there that do wonderfully weird things!
@@connorscanlan2167 I love it. C19, when absorbing Goku's strength, goes "Yummynummy!" I still say "I'll open the Ball" when being the first to do something, because that's how Trunks worded it when Goku entered the Cell Games. It's the Danish version of "You'll start this show?" but used way less. I have way more just from memory, it's such a fun version. Even in places where you'd think they'd be the same, it differs from what I've seen of the English version. Like what Dr. Gero yells at the Cyborgs before they kill him.

For example, Dr. Gero (Gero means vomit) was translated to "Dr. Żygago" (combination of words vomit and heartburn that nicely rolls off of the tongue). Kakarotto (carrot) was translated to Kaszalot (which is an anarchic word for someone that eats way too much) Dabra was translatted into Kadabra (eng. Cadabra, just making the pun more obvious) Spopovitch - Goliznowicz (Pun combining word "nudity" and suffix to a lot of polish surnames "wicz") One of the favourite ones of fans Piccolo Daimao was called "Big Satan" and Piccolo (Junior) was called... "Heart Satan"? I'm not entirely sure how to translate Szatan Serduszko lmao. It's such a surreal name many polish fans remember it. Also I really like the way they modified Buu names. Fat Buu - Mean Buu Super Buu - Cruel Buu Kid Buu - Boo-boo (in polish "Bu-bu", the sound newborn babies make)

Heck, some countries even got weird English editions that we never saw in the US that so many people remember fondly. (Somebody told me there was a Canadian one where Goku calls everyone a "hoser." This person might have been joking... I hope.)
@@connorscanlan2167 Being anime fan in late 2000s/early 2010s was pain though. There was a controversy where on one of the most popular TV channels mangas were called "comics for pedophiles", and the host showed early Dragon Ball chapters with young Bulma flashing her body to Roshi. This lead to a downwards spiral for anime altogether where almost every Polish TV station stopped broadcasting anime and buying licenses for new ones. There was only one channel that did, but only between 10PM-6AM, cause that's the hours "kids sleep". The only animes that still aired on other stations were Pokemon and Bakugan. They even stopped making DVD releases, it all just halted. Ironically mangas weren't hit as hard, definitely suffered some sale loses, but weren't cancelled to such degree. After that it took 8 whole years for another anime to be licensed in Poland, ironically it was Dragon Ball Super. Nowadays the official anime releases are still something very niche. Only full-length cinema movies like Demon Slayer or My Hero Academia have official releases, they don't bother with shows at all. Oh and also Dragon Ball Super Super Hero is fully dubbed in Polish.

I always thought that Cell was nice to Yamcha here was because in the timeline Cell is from, Yamcha did himself in during the beginning of the android arc, so seeing him alive in the main timeline was an actual surprise. Them meeting at the cell games was the first introduction for both of them as well so it matches.
I love how the one of the most interesting dynamics the 3 players in the hateboner triangle have is their relationship with yamcha. Cell is the main villain and treats him the best. Tien is the best friend but treats him pretty neutrally sometimes even antagonistically. Vegeta though is an ally, but is his pure antagonist, and hates him the most.
One thing I love about the opening is that all the shots that were used were all from scenes that was filmed in universe, the pulling of the trucks, the blowing up of the earth sign, the squash you like a bug and the announcement were all done in front of a camera when it happened so there is a good chance that the commercial probably looked like that. It was a nice touch
I always assumed because in this canon Yamcha isn't part of Cells DNA so his daddy issues he has with those whos DNA he does have doesn't extend to Yamcha.
Honestly Cell being nice to Yamcha was just a kind of wholesome I didn't know I needed until I had it. Like there was 0 snark or BIG joke about it, they just knew where each other sat power wise and were chill. Half expected one of them to suggest brunch at some point.
y'all can afford to mention how good Taka's Perfect Cell is more. It's noble, classy and badass sounding but also the nuances when Cell is just vibing is an aesthetic. The delivery on "your little murder crush" and the Satan rebuke is on POINT.
Perfect Cell is a boring character in design and by characterization in dub. But Taka gives him a lot more personality. Canon Perfect Cell is just budget Freeza with a Vegeta personality.
What Lani is asking about who Mr Satan could have beaten from the old Dragon Ball tournaments are literally things that i have asked word for word in other parts of the DBZ community. My interpretation is that Mr Satan could beat most of those side characters like Nam and even monster beast Girhen, but i bet King Chappa is actually where he would stop because King Chappa keeps training and coming back, even Roshi thought he might have given Goku a challenge, and then he started training Uub in the Super timeline. So I'd say King Chappa is a little bit of a level above.
I highly doubt he could have beaten Nam or Giren. Nam had enough ki control to jump dozens of feet in the air and come down with a paralyzing strike while Giren had his binding stomach gum that Mr Satan wouldn't have been able to break out of. Mr Satan coasted by on an easy victory in the 24th tournament after the strongest fighters of previous tournaments already retired after being brought back from Tambourine's murder spree.
Yamcha coming to the tournament is like finding that your puppy has pooped on the newspaper instead of the carpet, you just have to feel proud for the lil guy.

I have played “Today is fightin’ day” to wake up my daughter for softball every tournament weekend since 2021. “Today is softball day” has become a family tradition.
I think they actually already did one for Hellsing, a few years ago. But I agree I've been looking forward to them doing HFIL so we can see the new episodes that aren't on the damn channel
@@rando7765 Agreed. To expand on your comment (for people who don't know) the Hellsing marathon with commentary got taken down shortly after airing. That was with a couple of the other VAs for various roles, and came after the original DBZA marathon.
Tien: Ki-ko-how are you doing Cell: Perrfect I love these lines for their extra meanings. The KI-KO-HOw is obvious, but Cell's perfect has three layers. First, it's a natural response; without context, nothing to think more about. Second, how is Cell doing? Well he's reached he's Perfect form ... so he's literally doing perfect. Third, Tien ki-ko-ho-ed himself to near death trying to prevent Cell from going perfect ... but Cell perfected anyway. So Cell is also rubbing it in Tien's face that all his efforts were for naught
Guys i just found DBZA just a year ago and i can't tell how much i adore it, actually i haven't finished it yet (watch all the movies tho) cause i didn't want to run out of your content, so now im gonna watch the last episodes here in the commentary serie, first time seeing this episode and i have so much to say but all is i love it
Yeah, cos that's how time works. Smash in 2014. Dbza 57 was in 2017. He'd already voiced in mob psycho, erased and march comes in like a lion. Plus a fate movie I think
The "pretty hateful boner" thing is so hilarious. I love Yamcha so much. I actually read a really good fic with him in on Ao3 recently! It's where he fights Cell after Gohan fails to stop him with the Kamehameha. But _how_ Yamcha fights Cell is what's so cool! And it isn't just him, either. Piccolo and Tien are very involved too and it's just such a great way to keep the characters relevant. I really recommend it!
That's awesome! Yamcha is my 2nf favorite character Wish DBZA kept it in when Piccolo, Tien, Yamcha, and even Krillen were blasting Cell to help Gohan. Same with Yamcha and Tien protecting Goku from the Cell Jr.

They said they wouldn't at first because it would really need Taka to be in on it, but now that the lockdown loosened and Taka's able to be present, I wonder if that changes the equation. If not, there's always the commentary marathon they already have (which is pretty much how I watch it these days), but I'd really love if they were able to pause the videos and do deeper dives into things like this series has allowed them to do. They learned and grew so much as a result of that (not least of which was learning how to let serious, dark scenes be serious and dark on occasion) that I'd love to hear their thoughts.

Everyone’s DNA is a volatile unknown mixture of some percentage of each of their parent’s DNA plus some possible unique mutations. Gohan is 100% Gohan. Goku is 100% Goku. But Cell, not being an actual person who went through childbirth, is 10.78% Goku (or whatever the hell the number was), and therefore, these parameters… ARE ACCEPTABLE.

What I love about Mr. Satan is that you pretty much portray him exactly as he is in the show because he's already such an amazingly funny character.
If anything, they actually made him more heroic. Remember in the actual show he keeps trying to put off fighting Cell by pretending to have diarrhea or stomach cramps or some other excuse and then afterwards he spent most of the time cowering in terror.
Here, he makes zero excuses to delay and jumps in to fight Cell right away. And even though he’s spouting off all sorts of B.S. about it being all a bunch of tricks, you can tell he actually knows or figures out that it’s real and still maintains his tough guy performance pretty much throughout

The main reason why he lied about beating cell is so that people would have something to look up to at the end of the Cell saga which hints that he's actually a pretty heroic guy but he's severely outmatched by everyone else.
I’m still surprised to this day that no one ever points out one of the biggest reasons for Goku being such an idiot and a terrible husband and father is that no adult in his life gave him a proper upbringing. Grandpa Gohan raised him in isolation in the wild, Roshi and Bulma never gave him a proper education, and the man’s taken more concussions than every NFL player that ever lived. No wonder he never grew up mentally, no one ever taught him anything but to fight!!

I was just thinking about this earlier in the week! Goku has had mentors, but after Grandpa Gohan passed away when he was a child, he's NEVER had parental figures since, and certainly nobody coming close to being a mother figure.
I like to think the reason Cell is nice to Yamcha is because he knows about the suicide in the alternate timeline, and he's like "he doesnt deserve to die like that, he deserves to be hunted down for sport like the rest of the human race."

Mr Satan probably knew all along what was going on and what he was getting into. You don't become world champion without knowing about the crazy events in the last couple of tournaments. He just had to call everything special effects to keep the audience calm, and himself; that was definitely terror in his voice when the charred corpse landed at his feet.
He totally knew. He's the the hope man. A face and voice to quell mass panic. He's really down to Earth and knows the simple minds of the horde, so he's able to calm them down. He's also the strongest character that can't use ki at all. He can pull four limousine greyhounds on a rope with his teeth and rip 3 phone books straight in half with his bare hands. Guy's no joke

The funny thing is that he call everything special effect (and that mean Cell couldn't be a serious threat to the world, special effect can't destroy the word) but in the same time he make people believe he save the world by defeating Cell.....people are stupid..

Reading Dragon Ball's manga in Danish is such a trip, because it uses words nobody else uses. Like when Vegeta shows up, Cell says a line that's stuck with me forever: "THERE'S the ripe hot-house melon ... Vejita the honour-obsessed." Except that word is something I had to translate myself, because only one of my dictionaries would admit the Danish original, "ærekær", even was a word, and they still translated it to the oh-so-clunky "To be jealous of one's honor."
I really want more translations of Dragon Ball to be appreciated. I wasn't even aware of a Danish translation! There are probably dozens out there that do wonderfully weird things!
@@connorscanlan2167 I love it. C19, when absorbing Goku's strength, goes "Yummynummy!" I still say "I'll open the Ball" when being the first to do something, because that's how Trunks worded it when Goku entered the Cell Games. It's the Danish version of "You'll start this show?" but used way less. I have way more just from memory, it's such a fun version. Even in places where you'd think they'd be the same, it differs from what I've seen of the English version. Like what Dr. Gero yells at the Cyborgs before they kill him.

For example, Dr. Gero (Gero means vomit) was translated to "Dr. Żygago" (combination of words vomit and heartburn that nicely rolls off of the tongue).
Kakarotto (carrot) was translated to Kaszalot (which is an anarchic word for someone that eats way too much)
Dabra was translatted into Kadabra (eng. Cadabra, just making the pun more obvious)
Spopovitch - Goliznowicz (Pun combining word "nudity" and suffix to a lot of polish surnames "wicz")

Heck, some countries even got weird English editions that we never saw in the US that so many people remember fondly. (Somebody told me there was a Canadian one where Goku calls everyone a "hoser." This person might have been joking... I hope.)
@@connorscanlan2167 Being anime fan in late 2000s/early 2010s was pain though. There was a controversy where on one of the most popular TV channels mangas were called "comics for pedophiles", and the host showed early Dragon Ball chapters with young Bulma flashing her body to Roshi.
This lead to a downwards spiral for anime altogether where almost every Polish TV station stopped broadcasting anime and buying licenses for new ones. There was only one channel that did, but only between 10PM-6AM, cause that's the hours "kids sleep".
The only animes that still aired on other stations were Pokemon and Bakugan. They even stopped making DVD releases, it all just halted.
Ironically mangas weren't hit as hard, definitely suffered some sale loses, but weren't cancelled to such degree.
After that it took 8 whole years for another anime to be licensed in Poland, ironically it was Dragon Ball Super.
Nowadays the official anime releases are still something very niche. Only full-length cinema movies like Demon Slayer or My Hero Academia have official releases, they don't bother with shows at all. Oh and also Dragon Ball Super Super Hero is fully dubbed in Polish.

I always thought that Cell was nice to Yamcha here was because in the timeline Cell is from, Yamcha did himself in during the beginning of the android arc, so seeing him alive in the main timeline was an actual surprise. One thing I love about the opening is that all the shots that were used were all from scenes that was filmed in universe, the pulling of the trucks, the blowing up of the earth sign, the squash you like a bug and the announcement were all done in front of a camera when it happened so there is a good chance that the commercial probably looked like that. Honestly Cell being nice to Yamcha was just a kind of wholesome I didn't know I needed until I had it. Like there was 0 snark or BIG joke about it, they just knew where each other sat power wise and were chill. Half expected one of them to suggest brunch at some point.
Yamcha is likely the most likeable and cool person to hang with of the Z Warriors.

y'all can afford to mention how good Taka's Perfect Cell is more. It's noble, classy and badass sounding but also the nuances when Cell is just vibing is an aesthetic. The delivery on "your little murder crush" and the Satan rebuke is on POINT.
Perfect Cell is a boring character in design and by characterization in dub. But Taka gives him a lot more personality. Canon Perfect Cell is just budget Freeza with a Vegeta personality.
What Lani is asking about who Mr Satan could have beaten from the old Dragon Ball tournaments are literally things that i have asked word for word in other parts of the DBZ community.
My interpretation is that Mr Satan could beat most of those side characters like Nam and even monster beast Girhen, but i bet King Chappa is actually where he would stop because King Chappa keeps training and coming back, even Roshi thought he might have given Goku a challenge, and then he started training Uub in the Super timeline. So I'd say King Chappa is a little bit of a level above.
I highly doubt he could have beaten Nam or Giren. Nam had enough ki control to jump dozens of feet in the air and come down with a paralyzing strike while Giren had his binding stomach gum that Mr Satan wouldn't have been able to break out of.
Mr Satan coasted by on an easy victory in the 24th tournament after the strongest fighters of previous tournaments already retired after being brought back from Tambourine's murder spree.
I like the fact that 16 asks nicely if he can kill Goku
In 20 years, Kaiser can do a directors cut version of DBZA and add in all the edits he dreams up rewatching the series

I have played “Today is fightin’ day” to wake up my daughter for softball every tournament weekend since 2021. “Today is softball day” has become a family tradition.
I wish they'll do a commentary like this for Hellsing afterwards. I am enjoying these way too much but they are already near the end.

@@rando7765 Agreed. To expand on your comment (for people who don't know) the Hellsing marathon with commentary got taken down shortly after airing. That was with a couple of the other VAs for various roles, and came after the original DBZA marathon.

I love these lines for their extra meanings. The KI-KO-HOw is obvious, but Cell's perfect has three layers. First, it's a natural response; without context, nothing to think more about. Second, how is Cell doing? Well he's reached he's Perfect form ... so he's literally doing perfect. Third, Tien ki-ko-ho-ed himself to near death trying to prevent Cell from going perfect ... but Cell perfected anyway. So Cell is also rubbing it in Tien's face that all his efforts were for naught

Guys i just found DBZA just a year ago and i can't tell how much i adore it, actually i haven't finished it yet (watch all the movies tho) cause i didn't want to run out of your content, so now im gonna watch the last episodes here in the commentary serie, first time seeing this episode and i have so much to say but all is i love it

I actually read a really good fic with him in on Ao3 recently! It's where he fights Cell after Gohan fails to stop him with the Kamehameha. But _how_ Yamcha fights Cell is what's so cool! And it isn't just him, either. Piccolo and Tien are very involved too and it's just such a great way to keep the characters relevant. I really recommend it!

Wish DBZA kept it in when Piccolo, Tien, Yamcha, and even Krillen were blasting Cell to help Gohan. Same with Yamcha and Tien protecting Goku from the Cell Jr.
