      @DanakarEndeel Před 8 měsíci +8

      I wouldn't put much stock in jumppoint sizes as of yet tbh and what you say seems to rely on very old (and likely outdated) information dating back to 2013 or so. You see, it makes absolutely no sense that there are only 3 types of jumppoints and that the Large one suddenly allows anything from Constellation to a Bengal carrier that's over a mile long.
      As such I suspect that we will either see many more sizes for jumppoints (maybe size 1-10) or that a LOT more ships will be able to pass through a Medium jumppoint while the Large ones are reserved for ships like the Bengal/Kingship/Retribution. 🙂

    I have a 400i and I tentatively bought the Zeus ES. I have a 600i, and I'm tending toward dropping the 400i in favor of using the Zeus in Pyro for scouting. The missing map table is a concern and lastly, I find the very cramped tapeworm interior my biggest concern. The 400i has an interior I consider "tight" in a good way. but the Zeus, I'm doubtful.
    The 4 S2 shields vs 1 S3 shield might be advantageous in the wild, because you could lose a shield and still have more shields left than the 400i.

    I know this is an older video, but I'd just like to point out that when you talk about the only turret on the ES being on the underside, you might not be completely correct. If you look at the technical overview on the RSI site for the ES and click on the Utility Items under weapons, though the hex is empty, it will still tell you that there is a Radar Scanner Turret on this ship. So it could be like the Constellation Aquila where the top turret has scanner functionality rather than weapons functionality, but being that it is a remote radar turret, it doesn't need to have visible weapon hardpoints. While the large radar is designed to offer greater detection range to the pilot passively, radar scanner turrets are designed to offer further bonuses to active scanning gameplay.

    I see this line of ships more as competition for the Freelancer series. I got myself an ES to replace my DUR but kept my MAX as it looks to be better at punching holes in things.
    The Freelancer DUR is lacking decent crew quarters for me to believe you can use it for Exploration. The ES seems to solve this issue and all stats are close enough. I'm waiting to see if the Quantum fuel will be enough and if the ES also comes with low consumption Jump engines but we'll see.

      Yes! these are very comparable to the freelancers and they seem like good alternatives

    • @kebasor
      @kebasor Před 8 měsíci +1

      One thing to also keep in mind is the fuel refinery on the DUR, which is going to change the actual range of the ship. I see the ES as a more defensive ship that can operate a slightly larger ground vehicle and requires at least two people to work well, while the DUR is more flexible ship that has considerably more combat capability (more and more accurate weaponry) and is better for a single operator.

    • @syllysayanami5032
      @syllysayanami5032 Před 8 měsíci

      @@kebasor Yes, the refinery in the DUR can be a real game changer. The biggest issue I have with the DUR compared to the Zeus ES is that at least the Zeus seems to have decent living accomodations.
      The DUR can stay long in space but I'm not sure I could live in there for extended periods of time. I would love the DUR to be remade or at least have the option to strip 2 chairs and 2 beds to have more space to relax for pilot and co pilot.

    • @kebasor
      @kebasor Před 8 měsíci

      @@syllysayanami5032 Well, the Freelancer DUR is among the oldest ships in the game, and the interior reflects that. Also, the ship is built as a sort of half-combat/half-explorer freighter variant so yeah, compromises were made to keep it nimble, small, but still able to support up to 4 for a long time. I'll note the living area on the Zeus is partially removed by the cutout illustration, so it's not complete. Finally, there's nothing wrong with making habitation a priority. The Zeus sits in the middle between the DUR and 400i in this regard. I was just noting the Zeus in no way replaced the DUR, just offered a more defensive option for those who won't be flying solo. And that's best, since each offers things that make them valuable to different people.

    • @syllysayanami5032
      @syllysayanami5032 Před 8 měsíci

      @@kebasor I fully understand this and agree that the Freelancer might need a rework in the future. As it is, in a lot of ways, I prefer the original Freelancer that didn't have all those bulkheads the "new" one has. Gave it a lot more space then the current one. Hoping they get it right at some point in the future as, at the moment, I see the Freelancer more for a short term exploration vessel.
      I still love the Freelancer esthetic though and will keep my MAX until the heat death of the universe and might come back to the DUR once the ES is in game or they remake the Freelancer DUR to have more living accomodations.

      I just hope they won't pull another Antares as I always felt that forcing the EMP onto a second person in the Antares was just a stupid idea. It's just forcing multiplayer onto a ship that doesn't need it. Now all that second person does is push a button and hope it hits. Not really enticing gameplay imo. CIG's claim that the pilot would be overwhelmed also felt like a lame excuse as the Mantis/Warlock/Raven do just fine with only one pilot operating the EMP. 🙂

      3. More maneuverability and or speed. It's a runner and it can't outrun jack chit.

      @TheLoneLlama Před 8 měsíci +2

      I think what makes them special when compared to all of the ships you just named is that they are going to be able to be flown solo, once engineering hits all of the ships you mentioned are going to need a crew of three or four. You won’t be able to just go out on your own and explore the way you will with the Zeus, plus it’s a medium ship and can go through the smaller jump points, which none of those other ships can do either.

    • @DanakarEndeel
      @DanakarEndeel Před 8 měsíci

      @@TheLoneLlama Lengthy response incoming in 3...2...1...
      Every ship in my list can be *flown* by just 1 person. In case you didn't notice but the Zeus is also listed as a multicrew ship with a crew of 3 people. The Taurus has a crew of only 2 according to the brochure, the Hercules C2 has a crew of only 2, the 400i has a crew of just 3 people, the 600i has a crew of 5, while only the Carrack tops the list with a max crew of 6. But each of these ships can still be *flown* by just 1 person; you just need additional players (or NPCs/blades) in order to operate the turrets. With engineers you would simply need 1 extra person (or an NPC Engineer); which also includes the Zeus as it's also a multicrew ship. So I don't know why you brought this up as there doesn't appear to be any real benefit for the Zeus there with regards to operating it when several of them have an equal or even lesser crew requirement.
      Additionally, we still do not know much about how jumppoints are really going to work and what the size limitations will be. Now unless they touched upon it during Citizencon; to my knowledge all the info we have is from some stuff dating back 6+ years or so. It would also make zero sense that a Constellation Taurus (for example) would suddenly need a Large jumppoint while that same jumppoint is also used by a *much* larger Vanduul Kingship. Also, the Carrack has special antennae with which to stabilize and widen jumppoints; allowing it to traverse smaller ones. At least that's what CIG devs told us about the function of those antennae back in the day.
      Lastly, the Pyro-Stanton jumppoint was listed as Medium on the ARK Starmap. The XenoThreat pirates also originate from Pyro and they were able to bring Idris Frigates through the Pyro-Stanton jumppoint. As such it seems that you only need a Medium jumppoint for Frigate-sized ships now. 🙂
      So most of the ships I have listed have similar crew requirements to the Zeus (with the exception of the Carrack and 600i) while we still do not know exactly which size ships will fit through which size jumppoints.
      However, according to all the information we have at hand it seems that a lot more ships will be able to pass through 'smaller' jumppoints compared to what was originally stated (that a Freelancer would be the largest ship to fit through a Medium jumppoint). I suspect that all the ships I listed will easily fit through a Medium jumppoint while the Carrack might even be able to squeeze through a Small jumppoint thanks to its speciallized antennea array which are meant to widen and stabilize jumppoints. We will have to wait and see if that will still be the case in the end though... 😉
      Apologies for the large post by the way. I just figured your post deserved a longer explanation.

    • @TheLoneLlama
      @TheLoneLlama Před 8 měsíci

      @@DanakarEndeel So the problem with that is all of those ships you just named are still classified as large ships. There would not be a point in having different sizes of jump points if they let large ships go through whichever ones they wanted, it’s extremely likely that none of those ships, due to be being large ships, are going to fit through a medium jump gate. NPC crews are many years away still, for a large ship it is once again unlikely that you can get away with a crew of just two. Maybe you’ll be able to fly it okay but if anything happens it’s going to be hard to recover. For the Zeus being a medium ship it is likely that a crew size of between one and two will work perfectly well however more is always better, despite that you will have a clear solo advantage compared to large ships that are being made for multi crew gameplay. The large ships however are simply going to require more crew and especially in the likely 5 plus years in between getting engineering and getting NPC crews you will need a minimum of three people to fly those large ships properly. The only one I could see you getting away with is the 400i due to it being on the smaller side of the large ship lineup, but even then, I think it’s unlikely. Ships have size classifications for a reason and the realities of engineering are going to come as a rude awakening for a lot of large ship owners.

      @@TheLoneLlama We can both keep speculating until we're blue in the face and it wouldn't change anything. To me it's simply silly to believe that a Constellation needs the same size jumppoitn as a 2 kilometer long Kingship. All that was based on info from a time when the Constellation was the largest flyable ship out there. In its present day it simply doesn't make any sense anymore.
      I already told you that the Pyro-Stanton jumppoint is Medium; yet Xenothreat was able to come from Pyro to Stanton with Idris frigates. This means that frigate-sized ships can apparently traverse Medium jumppoints now. Just think logically instead of blindly latching onto old data as if it's set in stone because it isn't. Everything is subject-to-change; this includes any and all info we may have had regarding jumppoints told to us back in 2013-2015.
      You don't know and I don't know. All I know is what CIG shows me. However, making statements as if they are fact is something you shouldn't be doing. Not when all that information is still up in the air and subject to change.
      EDIT: Also I find it rather hilarious that you judge ships primarily by their size instead of the crew listings from CIG. The 400i only has 3 beds and 3 stations. It will never need more crew as it was built for 3 people. The Taurus and C2 were built for 2 people regardless of their size. You don't need an army of players just to operate those ships. Only the 600i and Carrack have a max crew requirement of 5 and 6 respectively but CIG has already stated that turrets (even manned turrets) can be automated with AI blades depending on how many computer slots you're willing to give up. Heck, the Perseus already comes with 2 automated turrets by default so effectively it only needs 3 people to fully operate it (1 pilot plus 2 gunners); and that's a ship the size of a corvette. 😉

    • @TheLoneLlama
      @TheLoneLlama Před 8 měsíci

      @@DanakarEndeel I mean I don’t believe CIG is incompetent but I do believe making large and medium ships have no difference as far as maintenance requirements and usability for a solo player would be incompetent. If you think about it logically it just doesn’t make any sense to allow large ships to be able to get away with the same things that medium ships can. That is an educated guess as it is based on the information we have available, mainly their size classifications. I know it is difficult to picture because every ship can currently be flown solo but if CIG allowed ships that are classified as large to be flown just as easily as ships that are smaller then that would be a massive mistake from a gameplay standpoint. I know you want that to be the case, it just doesn’t make any sense.
