- In addition to being the home of hot chicken and country music, Nashville is also home to the largest Kurdish population in North America. Just off of Nolensville Pike on the southern outskirts of Music City lies Little Kurdistan - a thriving community of Kurdish immigrants and new generations of Kurdish-Americans. Southern Foodways Alliance presents "Little Kurdistan."

Wow really how old is he whats hes name if u dont mind but i think i know hom does he have really long hair?
So your white American and hes Kurdish?
Welcome to Nashville! Kurds are, in my view, among the most highly evolved people on earth and especially in the turbulent Middle East. They are a tolerant, spirited and very peaceful people, 35+ million strong, and any community would be blessed to have them. I have considered living in Nashville, and the fact that there are 15,000 Kurds there makes it all the more alluring to me. Cheers.
Thank you man for every things
I agree bro, great people.
Thank you my friend
Beautiful video, thanks so much for sharing it with us Eater. As a native Nashvillian, I am proud and honored to have these beautiful people share their rich culture with us. They are more than welcome here.
☺
Thx buddy
On me the Kurdish cool
I’ve lived in Nashville over 40 years. The Kurdish food game here is amazing!
I love Eater, and this is yet another example of your great content. What a beautiful window into the phenomenon of new arrivals sharing their culture with us all through food. Content like this is what is best about You Tube and America in general.
after reading most of the comments, I thought I was the only one who loves this kinda video until I see yours.
OMG, I also love the Kurdish soups with Kibbeh dumplings we fing here in Jerusalem and Israel brought by Kurdish Jews, especially the Kubbeh Khamusta - do you also make these soups in Nashviile?
Noel Ben Dunsky Ah yes. You are probably speaking of Trushik. A tomato based soup. We Kurds in Nashville make a lot of our foods from our homeland. :)
@@savxired Hi! I am talking about a green soup based on celery, chard, onion, cumin, courgette and potato, cooked and lemon juice is added to make it sour. The dumplings are filled with meat that has been cooked in its own fat (Kaliya) and the end result is divine!! Do you know this recipe?
Noel Ben Dunsky Hm, maybe. What color is the soup?
@@savxired rotteml.com/%D7%A7%D7%95%D7%91%D7%94-%D7%97%D7%9E%D7%95%D7%A1%D7%98%D7%94-%D7%9E%D7%A9%D7%9B%D7%95%D7%A0%D7%AA-%D7%94%D7%AA%D7%A7%D7%95%D7%95%D7%94/
Noel Ben Dunsky hm, I’v never seen that one before. Maybe it’s a different version of the one I’m having.
Imagine you’ve been living in Nashville for twenty years and you would kill to go back to Kurdistan and experience kurdish culture and you see this in your town. Amazing thank you so much.
Long live Kurdistan
BIJI KURDISTAN
Loved This!👍👍👍Im hungry. I wonder whereKurdish food is in Los Angeles.. All Cultures and Foods R Great!! Great Job EAT!!😀👍👍
Don't know why, but that rice and vermicelli noodle dish was especially appetizing (but those kabobs...yuuumm), which is ironic since I have rice everyday .
Niroj cuisine, Agoura hills .. you can get some great kurdish food there
Thanks Madina Taha😉👍
This channel is great. From Lucas eating hot chicken or the history of a pig ear diner, this channel is now the impetus for me giving up regular TV. Thanks for setting me free.
Biji Kurdistan! ❤🌞💚
Nicee! Thank you for this. my people have not been in casual light since they are fighting ISIS. It humbles me to see them as 'normal' people for once, in this video :')
loved it!!
Great video! Cool to see this side of Nashville.

The Kurdish people are some of the kindest hard working people I've met in my life.We are blessed to have immigrants like the Kurds in our country.
Good vid guys
Thank you for this video 🙏 I love kurdish food 😋😋😋😋
I can't believe I found this video. So inspiring.
great video.. thanks eater.. subs
Wow, such racists comments on here. Makes me sad to know that many of them are Americans who can just avoid the video if they don't like it. :/
how do you know they're american?
exactly. I love this video.
Most American's I've seen have no issues with Kurds(and I've been to much more racist and horrible comment sections)..Usually the comments are from certain other neighboring countries..And there is a Brit here who has issues with the 'political' nature of this video
Radickly Rick Why would this be my first time online, just because I don't like mean comments?
Does that excuse it Rick?
Awesome! I've only been to Memphis. Next time, if I ever travel back to Tennessee, I have to try the Kurdish cuisine there! Thanks for the video!!
this is great!
That's my good Kurdish American Wife!!💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋👏👏👏👏
i come here to see and crave so i talk only whats on the food table..i love Arabic food haven't tried Kurdish food yet. Nice slice of different palette in a while
I would like to learn Kurdish cooking.
Beautiful thing

Free Kurdistan ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
Yellow bag🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Kurdistan % 90 muslim alhamdulila. Muslim countrey
No. Maybe 60%
It used to be old, but now that is no longer the case after the Kurds were brutally attacked by Muslim Turks, Arabs and ISIS.
great story.
I love these videos y'all do
Macyalla, hope Allah rahmat you and family
i guess Kurdish is more likely like Asian ^_^ we don't use measurements, just feeling when we cook
Kurdish are Asian we came from the midlleeast (wich is locatet in asia)
Any good Kurdish owned hotel in the city??? Near the Kurdish area? Would like to stay for a week and make a short documentary.
What's the supermarket?
0:07-0:11 the population of Nashville city limits is 715,884 (1/4/2020). 0:12-0:34 Little Kurdistan is mainly situated in the Nashvillean neighborhood of Paragon Mills.
It's also nice that this kurds are good at English lot's of people's in Kurdistan know nothing about English cause of our school systems
Any these type place near bath/Bristol uk looks yummy 😋
How many kurdish people in Nashville?
Are there any arabs, persian and turkish in Nashville too
glad they found a home in nashville. they definitely werent getting one in the middle east
BEASTfckingCOAST arabs are oppressing themselves
boys this is not the time or place right now. Stop spreading the hate and just enjoy the damn food
+Dustin Trinidad US foreign policy is causing chaos in that region. if you can't see or admit that you're a blind fool
Um... kurdish people are a separate ethnic group from the Majority Arab Population who have their own dialect and their own history of oppression from both Arab people in the area and US interested.
thank to US bombs and military weapons
💚❤💛
I love you U.S.A l love you Kurdistan
I can only advertise for Kurdish food. One of the best cuisine on Planet Earth. Lecker ! Very Tasty ! Try it.
"Yesterday refugees are tomorrow American"
Do they sell bacon?
nashville population is growing, what's there?
I think pop is actually closer to 1 million, but yes, still growing. Theres a lot of music/recording industry here and all the celebrities that go along with that. Lots of automotive manufacturing and healthcare industry jobs, southern food and hospitality, no state income tax, low cost of living, nfl and nhl teams, descent restaurants and nightlife.
Healthcare industry is the biggest here out of anywhere in the US I believe. Nissan's new headquarters is here and we have a massive new convention center with dozens of zoned and planed hotels, apartments, and communities yet to be built. Nashville is growing quick and our roadways suck hard and can't keep up.
Hot chicken, incredible economic growth, and a reasonable cost of living versus most other cities, plus lots of outdoors/nature stuff to do. It's a nice town but it seems like every year 100k new people show up. Nashville has gotten pretty crowded.
send them to Alaska.....please
Jon Menard huh
ps I went to Vandy
Why the hate toward Muslims everyone?
hi
my kurish you liek kurdish ????????
Hmmm not measuring isn’t just a Kurdish thing I’ve never seen my grandmother or mom measure at thing
Yeah it's a humane thing I guess but I think she has experienced most things in america "professionally" and not casually, that may be why she thinks it's more of a Kurdish thing.
Hiiii
I wish i can live in The US at some point in my life, God help me 🤲🏼
This is Not Turshik this is Kutulk.
Unfortunately, Nashville's Kurds forgot about their genuine Zoroastrian and Yazidi faith after fleeing from their Muslim occupiers and oppressors of Kurdistan. They run away from Islam to become loyal Muslims in US.
Says someone that doesn't know anything about Kurdistan, their whole democratic confederalism and what not
who is the man in kurdish drag
3:37
3:37 booggie
They sound so american
@cometestify I know it is just weird to see Kurds talking perfectly in an American accent lol
I was watching the other video and couldn't comment on it.. but it is so horrible that nobody heard of KURDISTAN like nothing at all the people the culture the language no knowledge whatsoever on the topic.. I ran into a handful of people that did know some knowledge on the topic but the majority did not know nothing at all
Kurdish people doesnt wear hijab
Wow, I never thought I might have to give a basic History lesson to the ignorant simply because of a food video.
Austin Chen is correct - the Kurds are a distinct Ethnic Group.
For Centuries, they have been oppressed and victimised from all sides.
By the Ottoman Empire/Turkey, Syria and Iraq - yet their culture and traditions have survived.
They are the most 'moderate' of 'moderate' Muslims.
They are the ONLY people fighting Daesh on the ground every single day.
And Women's Brigades fight alongside men.
So, might I suggest something to those who have posted ignorant, bigoted or downright racist comments here?
Try reading a History book every now and then.
Or if that's too much effort, educate yourself by simply Googling it... ;)
I wouldn't call kurds muslims, centuries of brainwashing and forced conversion is the result of them being muslim. kurds are kurds first and muslim second, modern kurds are disassociating themselves with islam since it is an arab religion that was forced on them and ISIS is helping kurds turn away from islam. If it wasn't for the arabs kurds probably would have become christian or zoroastrian.
Wow youre so enlightened....well if knew any Kurdish people then you would know that a sizeable minority of them support Daesh
+dream "a sizeable minority of them support Daesh".
Proof?
Eric Blair my kurdish partner
dream no we are not supporting daesh bro dont lie we had many bite the ground shame on you
kurdistan is so nice. its like utah or colorado. if you take away isis, it would be great to visit. the food is legit, and the peshmerga girls are so sexy
The first woman interviewed said that Kurdish cooks are unique because they don't need to measure ingredients. They get a sense for it. That's not unique. That's anyone who knows how to cook. I don't measure ingredients either because I know what I'm doing.
Why do Americans are always so religious and show these things on the tv, i mean its no new Channel my God
This should've been something that Lucas should've covered, instead of you covering it with banal political commentary. Also, NOSE.
notice how this video is different to all the others that the channel put up? im not happy at the virtue signalling in this video. im fine with showing kurdish cuisine, that is why i enjoy the channel but cut out all the political bullshit of trying to show the "human story" ect ect. you dont do that bollox for all the other videos, yet you do that here.
eater should leave their political bias at the door, treat different cultures the same and focus on the food.
says the dumbass ukip supporter (UKIP is a far right nationalistic racist british party for anyone who doesn't know - i.e. a group of bigots and racists)
you are so right
Yea I thought there was something different in this video
Food reflects culture and vice versa. If you want food without a story read a cookbook.
YES! you just said all i was about to say. these kurds have been tearing up Iraq dince the day it was created. the ran away because of their radical ideology and still try to call north iraq kurdistan and call it their country while its not
More kurdish nationalists ? Ufff
no its not, I've been eating proper joojeh for 40 years....
These kurds make the rest of us look bad with their arab names and islamic traditions, because that's not the kurdish way.
i agree with you those were brainwashed by sadam media during 80s
Illılılılılıılılılılı it is so true, i just see arabic traditions not kurdish
Indeed, kurdish girls dont use hijab
@@ELViejito100 a lot do, it's just personal preference.
EL JØrge whaaat😑it is not about the nationality to wear it or not they are muslims too, it just depends on their desires😑😑😑😑😑😑🤦🏻♀️wake upppp !!!
Really bad place
So... Kurdistan is not a country?
peeef you would kill to have some of our oil lol
They are tribes that have settled in northern Iraq, they are not a country.
It was a country but after ww1 in the sykes picot agreement, the british and french split up the kurdish nation into 4 different countries and now kurds are fighting to get it back.
It got split up after WW1, and the countries involved have all actively worked to keep the Kurds from getting their country back together due to the enormous amount of oil within.
they have an Autonomous region, the kurds were supposed to have a country which stretches from turkey to iran. the Turks backstabbed the kurds during ww1 treaty when they were laying down country lines so they never got a country of their own. Kurds are not gypsies, they are the oldest people still living in their homeland in the middle east. people are spreading lies about them being gypsies mostly turks and arabs.
I just heard from a well known Kurdish Reporter that the current Turkish Government treats the Kurds well in Turkey. Other than bombing the PKK, Turks have treated them well. They still have somethings to work on though.
Turkeys goverment wants them to feel at home and be proud to live in turkey but most of them want kurdistan to be a country of its own thats why turks and kurds hate each other and
That's a lie, turkey is attacking and killing kurds even as we speak.
it was illegal to even speak in kurdish until only recently, and the ban was only lifted because of pressure from europe. turks dont even want to acknowledge kurdish existence, they call them mountain turks.

Is anyone else thinking of what a dangerous way it was for her to cut up her vegetables? That being said, she did escape from a war torn country.. So.. Yeah. Knives.
Have you seen videos of chefs like Gordon Ramsey? They all cut with their fingers just behind the knife.
Also, what's your comment supposed to mean? That's a really bigoted and discriminating comment dude.
+dogonskis Gordon Ramsay points that you use your first knuckle to guide the knife while in the video she had the tops of her fingers just behind the blade of the knife.
Not at the fingertips, though. Chefs like Gordon Ramsay advocate for curling your fingers when cutting so as to avoid accidentally cutting one's fingers.
It's a bit troubling that your first assumption of my comment was intended as a bigoted and discriminating on. My comment was to note about how accidentally cutting yourself is nothing compared to the hardships of escaping a war-torn country.
100 years later they will claim that they have always lived there. The Kurds there immigrated 10,000 years ago and later lost together with the Indians against the European boilers
so persian food is now kurdish.......interesting !
Are you an idiot? Kurdish, persian and also afghan food is very similar.
Not all kurds are muslim, what's the idea behind this video? These people look like arabs, not kurds.
If they muslim what is your problem man
My problem is that the people who made this video, documentary or whatever, did it in the aim of making kurds look like islamists, which we are not. These kurds are very religous islamic kurds, but most kurds are not this religous. It makes people think that all kurds are like these people. It's the image that's being shown to people is what my problem is..
He doesn't understand that they are Kurds. I don't know how he looks like, but Millions of Kurds look like Arabs. We originally come from Iran!! Don't talk to him. he's an idiot or he doesn't know Kurdish History. Kurds come from Kermanshah in Iran. Original Homeland for Kurds. Kurds used to be ancient Persians who in turn are actually Arabic Looking people. The guy you replied to is a complete idiot or he is not Kurds. He can fuck off.
+Kin Gu bxo be3aql. fuck off, we are KURD not arabs or persians. Kurds do not come from iran either you brainwashed Dog, we lived in the same regions we're living in now thousands of years.
+Kin Thousands of years before the arab religion of islam ever existed we've lived in those same lands. Islam came from arabia and forced everyone to become muslim by the sword. They defeated persian sassanid empire and forced everyone in the region to become muslim. That's a historical FACT!
أنا كردي ولكن أكرهه الإسلام أنا لا أومن بلقتل ولا بلحوريات
On behalf of all liberals I apologize for removing Saddam, it made your lives worse.
talking to the wrong group. the kurds hate saddam and actually were happy he was defeated
We kurds always stand by the US. True good people :)
bruhh saddam was exceptionally cruel to the kurds among many other minorities in Iraq
if you was a true liberal you wouldn't say that... liberal=anti dictatorship
