I wasn't particularly popular in high school, no swag, bad threads, kinky hair and way too skinny, but I could sing. I sang this and played my old guitar with a friend backing me on bongos at a talent contest in 1971 and won. Things got a lot better after that night.
Isn’t it weird how people don’t like you til you give them a show with music. I was moderately liked in high school, but when I put a show at the auditorium, and two consecutive shows at a ballroom we had in town, they were both packed with high school students and we played for 3 hours! No stoner, guitar shit, this was all out rock n roll with attitude, and saxophones. The girls were all over me after those shows, maybe it was the romantic songs?

Now I am 49 and I still have not got there. But some time in the next few years I WILL go to Montego Bay, and it will all be down to this song.

The difference with 70s music is that it was predominantly joyful as opposed to other decades where it seems miserable, violent or obsessed with sex. I remember such happy times even though life could be taxing and there wasn't much money around.
