      Awesome glad to help, THANK YOU!! If you are looking for a large speed increase I would suggest doing some DD & research about your boat geometry for speed... generally speaking a larger motor on pontoon boats results in marginal speed increases. In my case the speed in crease was 17mph to 20mph. However this pontoon is not made for any types of speed with cigarette thin pontoons. I needed the power to get boat on and off trailer on a shallow boat ramp. Best of luck! Thanks!

    Loose the music and just do a voiceover to explain what you’re doing.

      My Apologies the video was not descriptive enough. I did not feel that there was enough to explain with a voice over. I will look at investing in a mic. Thanks for the feedback. :))

      Yes Indeed when fabricating we chose to air on the side of over the top strength by design. AN Ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure... especially when on the water. :)) Thanks Brother!

    You got any updates. I’m buying a sun tracker 28’ soon with the short center toon. How is the boat holding up to the 150

    • @cpaul1093
      @cpaul1093  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi thanks for your question. The Boat is holding up great with the 150. The only thing that I would ever consider changing is a full length center toon, in order to gain more speed. Yet I am also satisfied with the current setup just depends on your needs. Thanks!! Cheers :))

    Hi how do you work out the right height to put the motor I 🏄‍♀️ the net and CZcams and can’t find a simple answer

    • @cpaul1093
      @cpaul1093  Před 2 lety

      Hi Toby, that is a good question! I simply used the same height of the previous transom. Some things you want to take into consideration is shaft length of your current motor and the shaft length of the motor you plan on putting on. If they are the same then you simply set motor height similar. If not then make some compensation otherwise. I would not get supper hung up on motor height on a pontoon, however a bass boat or speed boat would be completely different. Hope that helps!! :)) Thanks for asking!!

    I have the same boat. 2000 model. Wanna convert to outboard. How does the 150 perform? I'm Considering the same hp motor.

    • @cpaul1093
      @cpaul1093  Před 3 lety

      It performs decent yet the toons on my boat are a bit small, which limits the top speed of the boat. Having the extra HP is very good though in my opinion the 150 is good, yet you are not going to have a high performance speed boat. Thanks!

    I’m putting the exact same engine on our 24 foot toon right now do you have a prop recommendation? Came off a wrecked bass boat so I already know the 23 pitch of wayyy out of the question had a 17 in mind

    • @cpaul1093
      @cpaul1093  Před 3 lety +1

      Excellent that's great, hope you got a great deal on motor :)) As far as prop goes I have not changed pitch at all running a 18 with 4 blade. PLEASE keep in mind you're not going to be changing props like you would in a bass boat tuning performance. You're main concern is lifting rear of pontoon, hopefully you have some oversized tunes with stabilizers on sides. Either way you'll have tons of fun with that motor they are great motors!!! :))) ENJOY & BE SAFE OUT THERE!!!

    What is the purpose of the transom pan?

    • @cpaul1093
      @cpaul1093  Před 3 lety +1

      Good question the original transom was rated for a 115hp motor. The boat was under powered and a larger motor was warranted. The new transom was constructed in order to withstand a 150hp motor. Thanks.

      @@cpaul1093 I think I was unclear in my wording. Allow me to rephrase.
      Why do pontoon boats have transoms that allow a pocketed space (filled with water) rather than just a metal cross bar with a mounting bracket for the outboard?
      My question was not specific to your project. Rather to ALL pontoon boats. Why a submerged pocket in the shape of a wedge, or a submerged pocket behind a central pontoon in tritoon configurations?

      @cpaul1093  Před 3 lety +1

      @@erikbrush Ah ha yes I understand, thanks for the clarity. It seems that is the million $$$ question haha, I have not been able to find a good explanation either...
      Some claim that it is simply to access the motor bolts.
      Others claim it is to keep the transom clean from any fluids the motor leaks in order to prevent fire hazzard.
      Great question, I have pondered myself. Maybe someone else can chime in...?

    • @erikbrush
      @erikbrush Před 3 lety +2

      @@cpaul1093 I've heard the fire hazard mitigation one too. Also that it creates a negative pressure well which balances the boat in a turn. Especially if you have risers on the pontoons for added lift.
      But I hope someone out there knows and shares. ;) Fingers crossed.

      @@johndriskill3376 Good question! 28ft tri toon tracker 'party barge' boat. With a 90hp max speed was 17mph, with a 150 20mph max. What I have learned is the pontoons on the boat do not provide enough buoyancy for the boat to lift and plan out. With the 150hp the boat plows through the water and there is so much drag 20mph is the top speed. Next project is a new center toon from a Bennington (a local dealer has some used that were warranty claims). If you're looking for speed... I suggest checking out some of the newer performance pontoon boats to get an idea of they build them for performance and speed. Basically the bigger motor on a pontoon does not always result in more SPEED. :) Thx!

    • @johndriskill3376
      @johndriskill3376 Před 4 lety +2

      That's a shame all that work for 3mph gain. I currently own a 2020 Godfrey 2086 20 foot with a Yamaha 90SHO. It will run 28mph with just me. Fully loaded 23ish. I'd like to put a 150hp on it. But, if I only gained 3mph I'd be upset to say the least.

    • @cpaul1093
      @cpaul1093  Před 4 lety +1

      @@johndriskill3376 I had an understanding that the motor wouldn't gain much speed and that wasn't my intention of adding the larger motor. I am now able to move the 28ft craft much more effectively on and off the trailer. However do be aware that a larger motor on pontoon does not always make more speed. ;)
