Anti Terrorism Unit is a special unit of Bangladesh Police. The main objective of ATU is to neutralize the possible terrorist threat to civilians.
After Holy Artizer Bekary terrorist attack, the Bangladesh Police force and the govt. the authority took step to form a special unit.
Before operation thunderbolt, Bangladesh police has SWAT and APBn to handle these types of situations. Then Bangladesh Police formed up Cunter Terrorism Unit CTU, Anti Terrorism Unit ATU, and Counter-terrorism unit. CTU, ATU, CTU, and SWAT are serving to the nation to avoid the possible threat of terrorism.

Firstly a service from any branch has to apply for the special branch, SWAT or ATU manually to Volunteer service. But for APBn and other special branches, the authority will reach the candidate worthy candidate.
Then all selected candidates is sent for basic SWAT or ATU training in different military & para-military and law enforcement institutions. Especially in Khagracori for ABPn special SWAT commando to complete the training and join the special unit.
