Hello everyone, MT here with the usual trainspotting action! Finally, my chance came to taking a ride on board the smart looking Blue Midland Pullman HST, here as it goes the ‘Torbay Riviera Pullman’ rail tour down to Torquay and Paignton on Wednesday 20th July 2022. The tour began at Doncaster while I boarded at the first station it called at, Sheffield; after departing from there, it called at several stations along the CrossCountry route including Chesterfield, Derby, Burton-on-Trent and Tamworth etc. After it did the last passenger pick up Water Orton, the set took part of a route around Birmingham to avoid going into the city itself before re-joining the CrossCountry route, passing through Cheltenham Spa, Bristol Temple Meads and so on before reaching Devon, travelling the Dawlish Seawall until we arrived into Torquay, a distance of around 221 miles from Sheffield.
Originally, I was intending to do two videos of the days trip, one for the journey down south and the other for the journey back; however, things got complicated after doing some spotting at Dawlish and the local GWR train I meant to get back to Torquay chose to break down. This caused me to lost my connection back.
Anyways, the Midland Pullman HST’s was powered by 2x VP185 power cars, those being Pullman’s 43046 and INTERCITY livery 43049 - standing in for 43055. The coaching stock were made up of ex.GWR First Class and Buffet Mk3 Coaches, all coaches apart from the Buffets were fitted with their pure comfort leather seats.
The film includes an insight of what you will see on board in the First Class De Luxe seating along with plenty of beautiful views of the route and not to forget the HST along with its VP185’s in action doing their part. The tables were laid with fresh linen and the complimentary snack box and continuous amount of hot and cold drinks throughout the journey. The offering of more drinks and snacks were available to purchase at the Buffet Car or have them brought to you by the loving members of onboard staff who were fantastically friendly, chatty and informative to everyone on the train. Given to everyone at every seat taken was a guide of all the stations and junctions the train we’ll call at. Being on board a VP185 HST felt good again and hearing the sound of those VP185’s engines in action does bring back memories when they were in regular passenger service across the country.
I really do hope to take another ride on it very soon; until, I hope you all really enjoy this!

I like the Midland Pullman ... it reminds me of the Blue Train, a luxury railway in South Africa, which I was lucky enough to see when I was working near Cape Town. I never managed to go on it .. I was too poor (or probably more like too mean) to buy a ticket.
