    Good video overall but you missed a couple things on the Fields analysis. Dalton was signed first and only signed there because he was promised the starting job. They had no idea they’d be able to draft a qb but made a horrible desperation trade when Fields dropped because Pace and Nagy were lame ducks and thought a young qb might buy them more time. Dalton was not brought in to mentor anyone, but it came out recently that when he and Foles did try to be good teammates and give Fields some pointers he had no interest.
    “Faulty pass protection” - the line has been ranked top 10 both of the last 2 years in ESPN pass block win rate%. I’m not making that up, anyone can look it up. That stat measures how often the line holds their blocks for 2.5 sec, when most good qbs have the ball out of there. But as we all know Fields holds the ball for-fing-ever and only got slightly better over time at sensing pressure and/or throwing the ball away. Sorry not sorry to bust everyone’s bubble but most of the sacks were on him.
    Looking forward to more of your videos.

      I just hope for the Bears' sake that Caleb isnt just Fields 2.0. No doubt this comment will get some backlash, but if you want to see something interesting, look up the long list of USC QBs that have been drafted into the NFL. They were all busts, some of them terrible terrible busts, and all of them highly regarded in scouting reports. The ONE exception being Carson Palmer, who although had a long and fairly consistent career, didnt achieve the HoF, nor will he. That's the only one (You can say Hayden, I disagree). USC has a long history of being a very QB friendly system, and an equally long history of those QBs not being nearly as good in the NFL as they looked in college.
      It's not just Darnold, Kessler, Sanchez, Barkley, Leinart or Cassel either. It's a long and storied list. Does that mean Caleb will follow suit? Who knows. Just saying drafting stud QBs from that system has had a very low percentage success rate.

    • @VicInNocal

      @@Heathcoatman The most tired argument. What in the world does Lincoln Riley's USC team from 2023 have to do with QBs who played at that university 20-30 years ago? I guess the Chiefs should have never drafted Mahomes, because "How many great QBs has Texas Tech produced?"

    Dreadful front office is the problem that's been the curse. Not just bad coaching. Bad recruitment look at the list of QBs they past up on. Jim Finks was the best GM bears have had. • @Rawkenday1
    @Rawkenday1 Před 5 dny +1

    This was cathartic to say this least. The “we want Fields” chants after the guy had a single decent passing game was really tough to swallow. So many fans wanted to do the exact same thing we’ve been doing for decades… sticking with a mediocre QB for too long and passing on elite talent at the position when they are sitting right there in the draft. We are so blessed that Ryan Poles took over and hasn’t let a single brain dead fan take sway him from his mission. Caleb Williams is gonna be an absolute legend in Chicago and it will be so worth the wait!

    GREAT VIDEO!!!! Just subbed for the channel!!! Being a lifelong Bears fan, it is not accurate to say they NEVER had a good QB. They have never been a pass happy team and relied on great defense and solid run offense. Harbaugh was decent, Erik Kramer, McMahon, Cutler etc. Problem is they were never long term players for this team. But, they have WHIFFED big time in drafting 1st round QB's. Linebackers we will hit all of the time. Still makes me mad we let Roquan go and basically paid Tremaine only 2M less. Not the best Poles decision.

    I think a big problem with the Bears is the team tends to hire defensive minded head coaches vs coaches with an offensive mindset who could draft and develop its quarterback. The Packers traded for Farve and drafted Rodgers and Love…but since the 90s the Packers have hired offensive minded coaches.

    • @Nick_2i

      I think you're kind of right, but it's worth pointing out that 2 of their last 4 coaches were offensive-minded coaches, and 3 of the 8 coaches they've had since 1980 were offensive-minded.
      They skew defensive, but not drastically.

    • @avidsiman
      @avidsiman Před 2 hodinami

      Exactly. If he had taken care of himself instead of being lazy and blaming others for his injuries...he could've been really great. Many of the issues with McMahon you still see to this day in his interviews. He only focuses on the part he cares about and ignores all the mistakes he made that lead to his problems. Many-a-time he'd throws his body around to get yards, but he also did not take proper action after releasing a pass to avoid a late hit. Many of his injuries came on those kinds of plays. Just the other day I was looking up an old highlight from 1985 of William Perry returning a fumble 59 yards against the Lions (czcams.com/video/k5yP84lGhjQ/video.html). Between all the instant replays of Perry's play, McMahon re-entered the game and threw a touchdown to Ken Margerum. In the replay of McMahon's touchdown, McMahon gets hit really late, but the part to focus on is that he didn't even try to evade the hit. He just took it like a limp dummy so he'd have somebody else to blame. that's how McMahon typically gets hurt.

    What was left out and is VERY important to this story was the Kyle Orton had significantly improved before trade talks with Denver took place. Orton had his career season with Denver after the trade which with a good OL (which they never had) could have been great for Orton and Bears. Cutler never really had a good line. Neither did Grossman.

I believe this is why they are constantly looking for that franchise QB. I also can’t 100% put the blame on the QBs because in the modern era their offensive line hasn’t exactly been spectacular while at the same time running into injuries. It makes for a terrible situation with Bears QBs. Is Caleb really the answer? No, unless they can find a way to develop what many say is a generational talent.

    No they did not get it right. I've been a fan for 20+ years, and this team REFUSES to change the way they operate on the offensive side of the ball. Three years of this Poles GM we've had ONE real investment on the OL and what they're doing with Caleb right now is nothing different than in the past where QBs careers died. It is never about the QB it is more about what is surrounding it, but this media consumed big market fanbase keeps wanting a wash and cycle at QB position while nothing is established on the offense to begin with. And the owners take advantage of these casual Chicago fans just for the ticket and jersey sales. this team will never be built for championship contention, but rather for media hype and a random playoff appearance maybe once in 8 years.

    Sadly as a Bears fan....I know first hand of the mediocrity (at best) at the QB position. The part that's most troubling though isn't the PERSON playing the position....but the way this franchise coaches and treats this position. I truly believe the Bears have had some great players come in to play in Chicago....and were cut down at the knees by horrendous play calling and overall game strategy. I don't think Aaron Rogers or Patrick MaHomes would have had the careers they've had....if they ended up with the Bears. We'll see if this changes with Caleb....but as someone who's seen this many times before.... they'll have to prove it before I'll believe it.

    26:54 From the Panthers. From trading them pick 1 the year prior as you mentioned. You don’t need to spice it up any further. The bear situation is as bad as it’s ever been and didn’t need any extra drama to make it look like they’re the worst ever.
    At least this time the GM made a calculated decision that was smart and not go for what everyone would’ve told them to do in 2023, which would’ve been to draft Bryce Young and they would’ve found themselves without a plethora of players that are key to the office today like DJ Moore and Darnell Wright or that they also gained Tyrique Stevenson who should have been DPoY.
    Hell, they still get another second round pick in next year’s draft from the Panthers.
    This Bears GM actually stuck with his own plan that look like what everybody else was doing prior to him, but in reality, he was setting up this team to be one of the top destinations for any quarterback to get there going into this season and the fact that the Panthers gifted them the number one overall pick Really shows they go down losing their top player.

      It was a tremendous trade and will probably go down as one of the great heists in NFL history along with the Herschel Walker trade! Things are looking up in Chicago, there’s no question. Just wanted to point out a trend with the franchise that had become rather evident, which was sticking with a QB they had drafted in years prior as opposed to moving on (like Arizona did with Josh Rosen when they drafted Kyler Murray). It feels like the bears definitely got it right this time though, moving on from fields and selecting Caleb. Thank you for the commentary and insights!

      @@firstteamfootball oh, what Arizona did with Josh Rosen Was unprecedented at that no team has ever given up on a first round draft pick that early without some type of injury attached to the player.
      Well Ryan Poles showed that there’s more than one way to do that method of getting their guy.
      Because had he done it the year prior like everybody wanted him to do he wouldn’t have had Caleb Williams, or all the plethora of players that came with that. So, if anything he went against what everyone else told him to do.

    The quality of the video is fantastic but there are a few things I wasn’t a fan of. In particular it was the choice of saying the Bears “passed on” guys like Marino, Josh Allen and Lamar. Because drafting those 3 wouldn’t have made sense at those times. They just traded up in the draft the previous year for Mitch so they weren’t going to use a top 10 pick on another QB the very next year. And the Bears weren’t going to take McMahon AND Marino in the same draft. You can say that they made bad decisions that led to them not being in the QB market at the right times but it sounds weird to say they “passed” on guys when at the time it didn’t seem like they needed a QB
