The food tour guide is a Malaysian Chinese so she introduced more about Chinese cultures and foods, rather than Malay local foods which represent more than half Malaysian population. Anyway all are considered Malaysian foods as Malaysia is a diverse and multi cultural population. However most foreign tourists prefer to taste local Malay dishes which make different than other countries such as Nasi Lemak, Nasi kerabu, asam pedas, masak lemak, varieties of laksa and varieties of kuih (desserts). Even she should introduce specific Malaysian Chinese cuisines - kuey teow, hokkien mee etc or specifically Malaysian Indian - variety of rotis - roti Canai, roti tisu, etc

When in kampung baru, these are my regular food items:
Nasi campur (mixed rice) for lunch, it means you grab a plate of rice, then you choose from the vast array of dishes to eat the white rice with - rich beef curry, savory chicken rendang, finger licking grilled fish with assam sauce, simple fried sunny side up in thick black soy sauce, various vege dishes, ulam (malay salad) with belacan dip or sambal tempoyak (fermented durian), etc. Don't be too greedy and get too many different dishes though, since there's 2 of you, each can take different dishes then share to sample them together.
    Avocado shake 😋😋😋
Kuih of all sorts, also the various pengat/bubur (sweet porridge as desserts)
Cempedak madu goreng (fried fritters) if the cempedak madu is in season, otherwise good old yummy fried bananas or much sweeter banana cheese

D nasi campur with d Malay dishes, normally with d used of coconut milk, varies from gulai, a Malay curry, masak lemak, yellow turmeric curry, or with lots of chillies like sambal or asam pedas, or just plain deep fried chicken or fish coated with fresh ground turmeric or tumeric powder. hi from KL, my thoughts is when you go with chinese tour guide she will bring you most to the chinese restaurant or places for eating....same goes if you go with malay tour guide they will bring you to malays restaurant or food stalls.....which u never discovered before.....another thing have you try the night market? lots of stalls selling food and goodies so cheap you will love it.....in Malaysia we call the night market as Uptown

Things such as food and accommodation are much more pricey there but good variety
Beautiful gardens, delicious food and theme park attractions.

FYI - baking was invented by the Chinese. All baking around the world originated from China and during the Silk Road era the knowledge of how to bake was passed on to the rest of the world. Portuguese egg tart is really Chinese just like Baklava and everything else.
