    The magic of the show was at the beginning where Richard with a trailer in tow, negotiated and bought cars, then flipped or improved them making himself a nice chunk of change, something the average car loving mechanic/viewer could do. Then when Richard partnered up with old buddy Dennis, who seemed like a spoiled rich kid always flushed with money and they began working on $1mil Ferraris, that's when Fast & Loud wasn't for the average Joe like me. Their big egos and nonsense didn't help any.

    Anyone watching the show who’s worked on corporate projects with unreasonable timelines could tell you Rawlings, while charismatic, did every project shooting from the hip, and if the project was bound to fail because of poor project management, it was always blamed on the fabricators and mechanics.
    Aaron’s approach to a business model made a lot more sense, because he could fall back on a steady cashflow of standardized car parts for the hot rod market, and not be under immense pressure to make the profit margin and cash conversion cycle of one-off restoration projects to keep the lights on.
    Throw Rawlings a book on Scrum, and let him absorb that before he makes wild plans with ever growing scope creep.

    I believe that a major cause of Rawlings' downfall was his friendship with Dennis Collins. Collins is a bona fide millionaire and a successful businessman. The social climbing Rawlings was so drawn to being like Collins that he engaged in businesses that were unsuccessful and he abused his employees so severely that they had no loyalty to the Gas Money brand. Of course, there was never any thought given to sharing the success/money with those responsible for creating it.....i.e. Aaron Kaufman's departure. When Rawlings and Collins would go on 'car buying' trips, you frequently saw Rawlings treat sellers very poorly where Collins almost always was much more generous and fair with his purchase offers. Collins was 24kt gold, Rawlings was shown to be gold-plate.

    I literally seen the show for the first time while visiting my 75yo dad. He's a car guy, I'm a motorcycle guy. He loved the show, but said it changed for the worse. Successful people come and go, but being successful for the long haul takes perspective. If he feels everyone is beneath him and treats them accordingly, you'll fail because workers will look elsewhere. Owners have the drive to work 16hr days because they want to build an empire, workers want to work, go home and watch junior play ball, eat dinner with the family.

    • @davelowets
      @davelowets Před 2 lety

      Exactly right... It takes a workaholic to build a business empire, but the people he hires to work for him are usually NOT workaholics. Employees usually have wives, kids, and family to deal with, and that's exactly why they aren't starting businesses of their own. Employers have to realize this, and understand it, otherwise they are going to have unhappy employees and low morale in the workplace. Keep your workers happy, and things will work out for the best. Overwork your employees, and treat them like robots and disposable grunts, and your business WILL fail.

Discovery tried to push Jason Aker as the replacement, but he originally got his start as the dork who knew all about "concours" restorations. That was a turning point in the series because it was basically Richard telling Aaron "you only know how to make things go fast." Aaron was gone before the season ended. A couple of comments. Having met King Richard at the Woodward Dream Cruise a few years back I can say he is definitely full of himself. He was carted around and acting like royalty. As for the show I personally think it ended long before Aaron left. The basic premise for the show is used car salesman and money man Richard would go buy a car and let Aaron do his thing and Richard would only occasionally show up which worked out perfectly. Things started changing when Aaron became more of a manager and told his crew what he wanted but didn't do anything himself on the cars. After telling them his vision he left them on their own. That is when it ended for me and I didn't watch it much after that. He was the show.

    My service company used to service their paint booth and even though we accepted the jobs, you knew it would be a break even at best scenario. One time Richard said he needed the booth stark white again so we installed a special (expensive) coating made for booths and at the end of the day he walked in and said it was too white and would glare in the camera so we need to make it less white. Right.....
    Needless to say he didn’t pay us to fix it. Anytime we would get a call on his behalf, he would pretty much expect shit for free because of the show. None of that equipment was owned by him. It was all “consigned” (which is pretty normal from what I hear) with the promise of free advertising which products never got mentioned, only the 1 second camera shot. We never put any equipment in there because we didn’t see the benefit but that didn’t stop them from asking. Aaron was and still is a very nice guy. I’ve spoke to Richard at times and he was as normal as anyone else but when the cameras were on or even remotely close or at a public event he would let his ego get the best of him by turning into the 1 guy everyone wanted to punch before the day was done.

    Watching fast n loud on CZcams while watching season 13 ep 1 of fast n loud on my tv.

  • @justanotherinternetdude8847

    Honestly though, the show ending was the best thing to happen to GMG. Their CZcams channel has been going pretty well and it is more about the cars than ever and without the production bs, it is just way better. There are some moments where it is clearly re-done because they strait up didn't record a phone call or something but even that is few and far between. They are still very much in business and way more open to fans now and when I went there twice (once during their tv time and another time more recent where they only do CZcams and actual work) the difference is night and day. Before they had no time and you can just feel the stress and burnout. When I went more recently, I just wanted to get some merch and maybe see some cars if I was lucky and they offered me a full on tour when I never mentioned anything about wanting one and even got pictures taken with Richard and some of his current crew. Now there is still some ego there, I cannot deny that, but anyone with money, talent, and that kind of following will have an ego and that is a fact.
