Good review. Thanks for the honesty. You actually talked me out of buying one with this review. It seems like a well made product but there is a limit to the efficiency of this design. Ok this comment is for ones who 1) dont mind spending money and 2) want a device that blows cold air! NOT cool a room… NOT replace an A/C system… NOT cool down a family of 10 on a 120 degree day! This device blows cold air on you PERIOD… Thats it! If that is what you want, an air conduit directed on you that cools you down, that is what this is… Nothing more nothing less… If it cools a small area then you have very welcoming circumstances for that to happen… Yes if you only use small chunks of ice your ice will melt super fast… Thats science! If you use big solid blocks of ice it lasts longer… If you use ice packs with ice blocks topped off with ice then WHOA! Even longer… If you want something different that will accomplish more then get something different that accomplishes more! For the price you can definitely get a black and decker ac unit that will cool a small room… Again that is not what this is for… Would it be nice if it was cheaper?? Well DUH! So would gas, eggs and car insurance… Oh and it is loud…
Real nice review. Thank you. Not sure if it woud work for me. In central Arizona, I just use ac in bedroom, 100 sq ft, but my refrig isn't big enough to make ice!
Other day i saw these guys adding salt to ice cubes to have it be colder and last longer for their beer .. maybe do that, and just add water as it gets consumed by unit as the ice will remain frozen from the salt? 🤷🏻♂️ Id test it first to make sure the added water doesn't freeze and then theres no water to suck up. That may fix the ice dilemma. My 0.2 cents.
Love this review! I want to plan some summer trips with my cat (who is also black). I like the warranty. I’m betting on to have that good of a warranty it’s well made and reliable.
Are you kidding me, just look at the design of How It's Made, you can make it yourself, I made mine, and a little bit cheaper than what they're selling.
I wish this review ALSO went over how much it cooled or didn’t cool a particular area. This review shows the device and how it works, in good detail, but will it cool a bedroom with the door shut? A small apartment?
No it will not. You will need it close to your face to cool you off. Just go buy a 5000 btu window unit for your bedroom. In fact you can but 2 window units for what this puppy cost.
This provides a stream of cold air until the ice inside melts. Pointed at you, I'm sure if feels great. But the ice is not going to last very long obviously.
The smaller the space the better it works. Yes, it can cool rooms down some but what you want is it blowing directly on you...That is how it works the best from what we found.
@@charlesruffing5606 thanks for the review. I forgot to say thank you in my other comment. Best reviews comes from the people that own them. I am not a owner of one and I am only speculating how it would work.
The math says that in most circumstances, this simply cannot work the way people expect. A large window a/c unit is 12,000 btu. While a unit this size is likely inadequate to cool a house it could do a reasonable job cooling a room. 12k btu represents the amount of energy it would take to melt a 2,000 pound block of ice in a 24° period. This works out to 83 pounds of ice per hour. That’s kind of the benchmark of an adequate, room size air conditioner. Any device that consumes less than 83 pounds of ice per hour is not likely to provide the type of performance that one is looking for.
When I use my 12 volt chord to run my cooler it uses twice the electricity out of my battery that the standard wall plug uses. It only takes 7 Watts on a standard house plug versus 25 watts using the 12-volt plug!!!!!
I was looking at them. The battery life looks good, but 1 lasts twice as long as the ice. WTF? The website says NO dry ice, makes sense. I wonder if salt would help by lowering the freezing temp.
Using a couple wires with alligator clips, any large battery could probably make the fan in this unit work. The battery doesn't need to be an exact size fit or voltage match. I run the headlight of my minibike with an 18 volt drill battery using wires and alligator clips. I've got a set of motorcycle batteries that were supposed to run my electric scooter...same thing...just attach wires and alligator clips and it runs other things besides the scooter.
Its not an air conditioner, air conditioners remove moisture from the air which removes the warmth….they need an external vent and drain…these are swamp coolers…they blow air across a cold wet surface. Not at all the same but still nice in the heat
I know this video was made August 17th 2021, I hope you been able to improve its efficiency, but as I look at your review of this product this does not have an intake that to pull in air circulate and then push out the cold that's how an air conditioner really works. don't get me wrong, that's a great idea, I already have one of my own, now I see a different way to improve my own ice chest air conditioning unit. Thanks for the review. PS, You may want to cut a hole on the opposite side of your unit, to bring in some outside vented air put a filter on it so dust and dirt can't get inside. This will also improve your airflow output to cool you down.
I thought the same thing before I watched the video. Warm air never enters the interior of the unit. As explained in the video, cold water is pumped off the bottom and circulated through a radiator on the lid, just like in a car or a window air conditioner works. Warm, outside air is pulled into the ducting and across the radiator that is cooled by the cold water and then it exits the ducting to cool YOU!!! The result is NO outside air is ever introduced to the inside of the cooler, making the ice last longer. The water being sent back from the radiator is warmer, but not hot like the air outside. I am betting the water circulation is quick enough that only a little cold is lost. Does that make sense? Please upvote this comment if it helped?
@@jasonsharpee6787 In this instance, the air is cooled by being passed over a radiator. The radiator is cooled by a water pump. There is no air needed into the interior chamber at all because all the air being cooled is done so only by being passed over the radiator and not the actual liquid,
@@izzyduzzit00 thanks for the info didn’t know that, I’m actually not impressed with it so I don’t think I’m gonna be spending money on it anymore , doesn’t seem to hold ice very long maybe couple hours on mid 80’s day
@@thomascorcoran2975 yea I hear you I just started looking into it. Definitely don’t like the idea of having to run get ice if you wanted to use it all day and that of course depends on if a gas station is near you
I have it and works very well if you are in an enclosed room. I think people expect too much from it like expecting a window ac to cool a whole house. And the way advertise it working outside at the beach or desert. That's like running your car ac on a hot day with all the windows open. I wouldn't even use ice cubes. Freeze water in large Tupperware containers take the frozen blocks out of the Tupperware after frozen use in combination with something like yeti ice blocks. It will last a hell of a lot longer than ice cubes I can get at least 4 hours of cold air and then it tapers down in temperature. I used it for my daughter's room last summer for bed time. It worked extremely well . I live in southern California and our gas bills quadrupled this winter. I expect the same crooks to do that to our electricity bill this coming summer. Even worse than last year. This thing only runs about 15 watts on full blast. And running a modern refrigerator/freezer is energy efficient for freezing
I see this advertised for golf. Have you or will you show how that would work? Advertising says you load the cooler with your drinks and then ice. Says one battery will last more than 18 holes. Hard to believe one battery would last 4 & 1/2 to 5 hours. Do I have to be a single rider? Not sure how the little lady will like the idea of not being the air conditioned cart? Would the basket on the back support the weight of this bouncing on it for 18 holes?
It depends how big the cab is. Our 4 runner has a big cab so it struggled but we put the hose blowing directly on us and that worked better at keeping us cool..If you are going to have it in the back seat I would suggest getting the golf cart extra hoses that can put the air directly on you.
So with this can you just run it off the battery pack you have instead of buying their battery packs? I plan on use of that cigarette lighter with my own battery as I’m going to be making an 18650 cell battery pack.
This is an inefficient swamp cooler, not an air conditioner. The company misleads saying that it has a true heat exchanger, and that's what sets it apart. There are videos on YT where people have made highly efficient swamp coolers that (1) put out colder air, (2) direct the air flow in multiple areas at once, (3) use less energy to operate the fan.
What's the female end on the control board? DC? I'm wondering if I can just plug that into a portable usb power bank with a DC to USB cable, instead of buying their battery
I live in Tampa and my kids play sports. This seems like a decent investment because I've been cooked watching their games many times. Also their game room gets hot when running two PlayStations at the same time. Do you think this will help when the PlayStations are running?
The 12 volt cigarette lighter cord is on low 1.3 amp medium 2.1 and high is about 3.1 amps. On their site of course but once I get mine I can throw my meter on to see. Also for the battery slot you mentioned I would 3D print a cover and make it flat. I make my own ice blocks so I’m hoping that lasts longer than ice cubes.
What If ? You fill it with blocks and cubes of ice then put a piece of styrofoam on the top of the ice ,to keep the exhaust air separate from the ice ,Comments Please ,Thank You
Good review. Removing the humidity should increase the comfort level, so it shouldn't have to run at full blast. I'm a bit concerned about returning the water to the tub though; maybe discarding it or storing it elsewhere would be better(?).
Well, first off you have to have some water in the cooler or this will not work at all. Second, even if the returned water is heated, as long as it is not at ambient there is still delta_T you would be throwing away by discarding it.
They claim ice last up to 7 day without using the fan have you test their claim I just recently bought the platinum edition don’t know if I have a defected one but ice only last about 4 hr in 70degree weather it might have to do with the lid not having a seal
What if you use dry ice to preserve the ice and also without the battery it has to stay plugged in or what? Cause I know you have to buy the battery also
I would just plug it into the cigarette lighter and sometimes using a battery pack..... Because there's a pump, does it draw twice or more power than other ones that has a fan only? Would 2 gallon ice bottles work without ice cubes? Would having a wet rag next to the air intake, prolong the ice?

Warriors! Shields Up! Here I am watching the video and notice fellow Cornerstone kids! We were there with regular fans. It's too hot in Texas in the summer, especially now, to not have some sort of cooling outdoors.
Nice! Shields up!
You can build your own. 6 inch Walmart fan. Cut two holes in an ice chest. Freeze gallon jugs and 2L bottles. Boom. I did it and love it.
Yep…Honest review… thank you for pro and cons and mentioning Price… very good
Ok this comment is for ones who 1) dont mind spending money and 2) want a device that blows cold air!
Get a metal bowl, fill it with water and freeze it... throw that in there with a couple cooler shocks, to keep the ice cooler
Wonder if you can add some containers of salt in with the ice to extend to ice.
I think that won't work because it sucks it into the motor and the salt will clog it up
This is a game changer for people that work in the heat!! Like HVAC repairman.
You can use ozark trail or yet ice blocks along with chipped ice . They freeze chipped ice into a big block of ice.
Icybreeze does sell a plastic ice bottle also. Surprised he didn't mention it
Other day i saw these guys adding salt to ice cubes to have it be colder and last longer for their beer .. maybe do that, and just add water as it gets consumed by unit as the ice will remain frozen from the salt? 🤷🏻♂️ Id test it first to make sure the added water doesn't freeze and then theres no water to suck up. That may fix the ice dilemma. My 0.2 cents.
Love this review! I want to plan some summer trips with my cat (who is also black). I like the warranty. I’m betting on to have that good of a warranty it’s well made and reliable.
Are you kidding me, just look at the design of How It's Made, you can make it yourself, I made mine, and a little bit cheaper than what they're selling.
@@DJRobbie54 how?? Some of us are not electricians.
@@DJRobbie54Enjoying all the humidity? Or did you install a proper heat exchanger?
I bet you could remove that battery panel easily. replace it with a small aluminum or plastic plate you make yourself.
Nice review, I’m making my own swamp cooler to take camping with me next year. God bless.
This is not a swamp cooler. World good apparently in humid areas, since it produces dry cold
@@charlesruffing5606 the ice will melt in two hours or less on a 104 degree day.
For ice Just grab a few bread tins from 2nd hand store fill up with water and freeze then fill it up
When I use my 12 volt chord to run my cooler it uses twice the electricity out of my battery that the standard wall plug uses.
Is it compatible with Dewalt batteries?… would be great if it was. I can imagine the pvc projects you could do to route air over lawn chairs…
Would rock salt extend the life of the chip ice or would that damage the product?
I wouldn't use salt. Salt would solidify in the pump locking it up over time.
Air blows out of the unt, so air comes in from the outside somehow. Otherwise it would create a vacuum inside and stop blowing quick.
@@jasonsharpee6787 In this instance, the air is cooled by being passed over a radiator. The radiator is cooled by a water pump. There is no air needed into the interior chamber at all because all the air being cooled is done so only by being passed over the radiator and not the actual liquid,
Ok I understand the air does not pass over ice- but where is the intake air vent? I see where the air is pushed out- but where does it go in?
The fan in the lid looks to be obviously pulling air from inside the ice chamber and NOT outside
Is this video on super fast forward? This is weird.
Add salt.
Saltwater has a lower freezing temp
What about filling it with dry ice ? Would 5hat make it last any longer
I thought about that...
That "likely to get chip ice" thing is dependent on location and supplier. Where I live most (95% perhaps) store-bought ice is NOT chip ice.
Only thing I don’t like is they don’t include any battery when you purchase one
Right!
With the money you pay for this junk that should be included!
Just another marketing scheme to get more money
Just fyi they have a sale right now that includes it
@@izzyduzzit00 thanks for the info didn’t know that, I’m actually not impressed with it so I don’t think I’m gonna be spending money on it anymore , doesn’t seem to hold ice very long maybe couple hours on mid 80’s day
@@thomascorcoran2975 yea I hear you I just started looking into it. Definitely don’t like the idea of having to run get ice if you wanted to use it all day and that of course depends on if a gas station is near you
Got one in Florida. $500 goes thru 20 lbs of ice in 2 hrs. It sucks takes too much ice.
We ordered one to keep our dough cool at events! Thanks for doing this video.
Hi. Im see8ng this 2 yrs after. Did your idea about putting in larger blocks of ice make a big difference? Thanks for this video!
i would like to see this compared to the frankencoolers
Great review! Honest and thorough! Subscibed.
Thanks for the sub!
A guy did a review in a van in Los Vegas. It used between $56 & $64 worth of ice in 24 hours.
What kind of ice prices do they have in Vegas!!?
Here in florida it cost almost five dollars for a bag of ice. One bag wont fill that up. Definitely would be cheaper to get a real air conditioner
Ice is free if you own a freezer and have access to water
You have a power station. What size is it? What size would I need to use them together?
Will this cool down a garage in the summer months in Houston or is a mini split a better way to go?
No these types of A/C are not made for that they are made for just direct cooling on yourself
Put salt on the ice to drop temps. Just don't try to touch it. Youll lose skin
8 months later - Are you still using this or have you moved on to other personal cooling systems?
Guess he’s moved on altogether 🤔 would like to know myself
I don't own one but ppl who do say its pretty high quality for what it is.
It is brutal here in Houston... Nice review!
Thanks!
Thanks for the honest review..
Have you tried it in your car? let's say you put in the back seat and let it run Can you feel the cool air circulating?
It depends how big the cab is. Our 4 runner has a big cab so it struggled but we put the hose blowing directly on us and that worked better at keeping us cool..If you are going to have it in the back seat I would suggest getting the golf cart extra hoses that can put the air directly on you.

If you add Rock Salt to the ice you will have ice in it for several days using that same ice.
Thanks for this. Will this cause moisture/mold if used in a recording studio?
no it’s a heat exhanger not a swamp cooler but not great for larger spaces
I'm curious is you mix some salt with the ice should lower the temp, correct??
Salt may get stuck in the radiator fins and cause rust. Idk. Just my opinion.
put salt in 1 gallon jugs and freeze will lower temp
Tell me if it will cool off a room next time or a tent. I don’t have much use for it outside as I never sit in one spot outside
Thank You. For the love of whatever, an honest fooking review.
So with this can you just run it off the battery pack you have instead of buying their battery packs? I plan on use of that cigarette lighter with my own battery as I’m going to be making an 18650 cell battery pack.
Where have you been? Miss seeing you videos on good stocks.
Hope you and the family are doing well!
thanks man! doing well. same to you
Could you put this in the passenger seat of a dumptruck
This is an inefficient swamp cooler, not an air conditioner. The company misleads saying that it has a true heat exchanger, and that's what sets it apart. There are videos on YT where people have made highly efficient swamp coolers that (1) put out colder air, (2) direct the air flow in multiple areas at once, (3) use less energy to operate the fan.
Phenomenal review
3 fan speed non are fast enough ill bet works great in tent camper or seat of work truck
Just ordered one just for the work truck hope it works good summer is coming
needs a membrane layer above the pick up tube. then ou could run a salt water ice mix amd your ice will last forever.
Adding the rock salt might even make it colder.
What about converting a waeco car fridge to an air conditioner? 12 volt and you can prefill with ice ?
I wish you can do this using dry ice and see how last
Freeze water bottles. Last forever, and when they thaw out, just put them back in the freezer and re freeze them.
What's the female end on the control board? DC? I'm wondering if I can just plug that into a portable usb power bank with a DC to USB cable, instead of buying their battery
Still working?
My old dump truck has no A/C and am looking into getting this for summer. Anyone do something similar? How does it do inside vehicles?
I’m sold is that the platinum one meaning the more expensive one
I can’t add moisture to my van so is this a swamp cooler
Nope, it's not a swamp cooler -- cool, dry air...
I live in Tampa and my kids play sports. This seems like a decent investment because I've been cooked watching their games many times. Also their game room gets hot when running two PlayStations at the same time. Do you think this will help when the PlayStations are running?
Not gonna do much to cool the room, it’ll cool the people sitting in front of it
Ya I live in tampa also. In north tampa. It's hot 🔥
What was the power consumption of the unit on the 120 volt cord? Have you tried a 12 volt cord? If you have, what was the power consumption. Thanks
What If ? You fill it with blocks and cubes of ice then put a piece of styrofoam on the top of the ice ,to keep the exhaust air separate from the ice ,Comments Please ,Thank You
Put a few streamers on there so we can actually see the difference in speeds.
chuck a bag of regular ice and some rubbing alcohol in it n it will get colder !
Nice video. Will be getting my own.
Freeze a few water gallon jugs, to add to the ice cubes.
Thank you great review!!
Would you be able to use a standard dewalt, Milwaukee, makita battery etc..?
No, It needs it's own battery.
18v or 20v will hurt the unit I was told...MUst be 12v battery
Great job! Thanks
They claim ice last up to 7 day without using the fan have you test their claim I just recently bought the platinum edition don’t know if I have a defected one but ice only last about 4 hr in 70degree weather it might have to do with the lid not having a seal
@Shadow Step I had 4 bottle of water and 4 can of soda and 5lb of ice
Is there an alternative battery u can buy from Amazon ? What type of battery is it?
What if you use dry ice to preserve the ice and also without the battery it has to stay plugged in or what? Cause I know you have to buy the battery also
Dry ice is carbon dioxide so thats a firm no unless you are using it in a greenhouse.
What you want is hard ice like he mentioned in the water at the bottom of the cooler... The colder the water going into the pump the colder the air.
What type of battery it uses? Can u buy from Amazon. Home Depot etc.
