- What can I say? I had the chance to test a bike at a very demanding trial, with complete honesty and no restrictions on the test!
For the first time ever a brand has had the guts to put their money where their mouth is! With so much on the line the team at Mecatecno have out-done themselves.
This is what the channel is all about. This is what we do. Give the best experiences the go-ahead and find the truth in the sport!
What an event! What a chance, what an episode!
This is Trialtube!
Great to see TrialTube out on the bike again. Electric trials bikes offer a lot of hope for a rise in trials popularity again.
Couldn't agree more!
Good job man! As always a pleasure to share time with you 😉
Thanks again man, what an incredible experience!
Loving it, trial looked amazing too
It was incredible!
So glad trial tube is back. We need more danny butler
This is such an awesome video! These guys are the pinnacle of trial entertainment!
Thank you guys! Back at ya!
Nice one , cracking review .
Thanks man! Sharing is caring 🤘
Nice one Danny. I really enjoy watching your adventures. You inspired me to start riding again. I had a big one during a rally on Mallorca last year and broke my back.I had a lot of time to watch your show,.After 6 months recuperating I bought a Montesa and it has been great for recovery and fitness.. I’ve even done a small Trial and loved every minute of it. Especially not having to spend a grand a day on tyres 😂. Keep up the good work. And This …….is Trial Tube 👍👍👍
Trials really is the best medicine!! Thank you so much for the comment!
nice riding there old chap - outstanding
Thank you kindly
Very interesting the way electric bikes are developing and the fact noise pollution is almost nil it means you can ride so many more locations without upsetting the locals 😉
Great job Danny, wondered where you'd been lol.
Love the look of these bikes but need to win some money before I could afford one😁
Enjoyed watching you do some real sections in a trial. Best wishes from Australia
Thanks bud and I have been back on the bicycle, it’s show season for me!
Awesome! Now I need one in Canada for a review.
You should!
Very impressive for an e-bike, especially in the water.
When can we expect the Dragonfly Vs EM? Thanks to your videos (and Larsen’s) I am now REALLY considering electric trial. Great for us living in the larger cities without easy access to parks - now the terrain is open ;) Keep up the great work and greetings from Belgrade, where we have two trials riders 😁
Hey man!! I am working on it!!
Awesome, looking forward
We share the same name but I can't say I can ride anything like you can, English ancestry passed down from my grand dad, but unfortunately no trials skill, Im still working hard on that.
Really interesting bike and review Danny, thank you. These elec bikes are really advancing. And nice riding! Well done sir. I wish trials was bigger here in the US!
Wow!! Amazing it’s great to e-meet another Dan Butler!! Thank you for the compliment and support bro. Also these bikes are super interesting and very different to ride. Having the support from across the water is awesome also. Please keep supporting the channel however you can and comments like these inspire me to keep making the effort! Promoting trials right will make it a bigger sport! 🤘🙏
nice bike looks like fun
It’s different, but good, in a weird way…
Bloody hell Danny! You interviewed Jordi with your Troy Lee Gas Gas hat on 😂 Seriously Danny, impressive riding. The Dragonfly is incredibly well developed. 🇺🇲 🇬🇧 🇪🇸
Haha it’s the Supercross hat I just like it lol
the thing i always remember about riding in Andorra was everything is uphill !!!
Tell me about it, super steep
Nice boots💪🏻💪🏻
🤙
Damn that bike is cool
It really is!! They have done a mega job!
Thanks for the nice and interesting video! I'm still not clear on the battery life. How often should the battery be changed/recharged in competition use and in training use in a closed area (for example indoors)?
In the case of the conditions that we rode the trial in the smaller of the two battery sizes lasted to the fuel stops on the lap. Which matched the length of a full fuel tank on a normal "gas" powered bike. But that was using the most powerful mode and using MAX power a lot of the time.
Great review! Nice to see the Dragonfly developing. I have an EM Epure race, 2022 and I'm very happy with it. I'm curious, how does the Dragonfly compare to the EM?
It’s lighter, a lot lighter and I am gonna be honest it’s caught up rapidly and May even have surpassed it??
great to hear it!@@TrialTube
I love your channel. You mentioned “quiet” electric, but in the video it makes a high pitch whine, how does it compare to combustion sound. Also, how long does it last in mountain terrain trials? Thank you!
Thank man we do our best! It’s high pitch sure but it’s a lot quieter than a normal combustion bike
Loving my dragonfly. Would never buy a petrol trials bike now. More than happy with the stock maps, but it was reassuring as it should be for other potential buyers that mecatecno can tweak the maps to suit the rider.
It’s true they have done a mega job! The bike I rode also had the “anti- rollbacks” and “inertia” maps activated!!!
I might need to see if they can add that to mine
Awesome review. Absolute immense riding!!! Get some well earned Kip!
When I got back I actually ended up with exhaustion, but worth it!
@@TrialTube mate you need to rest up!!!! I was goosed after riding 6 hours with Stu at trials day!!! 😂😂 then again am nowhere near your skill
Love your videos....the question is... epure race or dragonfly for a medium level trials rider?
I have never been allowed to create a proper Vs video as I am sure EM uk wouldn’t be on board..
i absolutely love mine and live down the road frpm the American importer - double bonus - clutch is a bit sketchy still -- it was insanely uncontrollable a year ago - almost dangerous but they sorted that mapping right out and the clutch feels much better
That’s it! They have made it even better again btw
Do your forks work well? My brother just bought one, and the forks are so stiff it isn't even fun to ride!
@@bundletesla5882 weird the one I rode had great forks but a little soft for my liking we had to stiffen them up!
i adjusted mine to be softer
@@bundletesla5882
@@bundletesla5882 Are they air forks?
Great review! Is there a link to your score over the two days?
Yeah just in the results of the trial:
Day one I was like 17th on 29 marks and day two I was 4th and dropped 6 marks! Massive improvement!
Great video again Danny, i would prefer the EM over this. But great to see more brands. Last week i road the 2024 EM pure race and that bike is really nice. Much better than the EM i had from 2014 to 2016. Tempted to go back to EM (but my 2023 TRS RR 250 still a blast).
Thanks for the comment bud! I know the EM is the original and I am always intrigued to make the comparison. I wonder if those brands would be up for it?!
Have you ridden one of these?
I rode one yesterday for the first time and was blown away by its capabilities, balance and light weight. It’s lighter than the EM . The grip it gets in muddy sections is incredible.
I was so impressed, I’m buying one
It's very svelte and cyberpunk looking.
Love cyberpunk
Danny are these smaller that regular trials bikes/ the EM? I'm 6'3 and don't want a smaller bike. This is a big deciding factor for me between this and the EM - cheers!
The wheels are all the same size and it’s a full size bike and I am 6’2 so I think you will be very safe!
@@TrialTubeI really appreciate the reply! I’ll pick one up here in San Diego. By the way I gave you a follow on insta just now, you need to post more 😮😅
Thanks for the vid.
Was the bike you rode the same spec as the model on sale in the UK?
I believe so, the spec hasn’t changed really, they have made all the improvements in the mapping!
🔝💪
🤘🤘
Hallo Dany, with which fork and which shock absorber was driven here?
Doesn't look like the original part.
M4 and R16v
What brand is the rear shock they running ? It looks bigger than the stock ohlins unit.
It’s an Ole
lol i need that seat cos i hit my bollocks on the "gas tank" every time i sit down
That’s why they built a seat pod!
What is the battery life like Danny, great Video BTW
It's good, it runs at the same length as a tank of fuel on the most powerful map…At its longest length..
EM got upset with this test as they read it as ‘Testing the ultimate e-bike’ instead of ‘ultimate test of an e-bike’.
Pretty much, it was about what the bike was going to go through
So did you have spare battery packs that needed changed during the day?
Yes, we changed them at the fuel stops. The only electric bike to make the fuel stop distance. (It’s a long way)
Just to say. All current owners, it seems are getting a trials worth and then some out of their battery.
As far as I know the m4 forks on dragonfly are with normal spring, not with air.
I had tried both. But the standard are better 👍👍
@@TrialTube Bike looks great, I'll be getting mine in January with the higher capacity battery 4.0. Hopefully the squeaky bum moments are few and far between. So which fork exactly do you prefer? Is the spring fork the standard?
The sections look technical. On an electric bike how do you go kicking the back end around with a little bit of throttle? Super easy on my 4 stroke but I couldn't get on with the EM i rode
It was fine on the Mecatecno and it is light so easy to compress and move also!
i couldn't do it on my em but it is much easier on the dragonfly - it's so light
Hi Danny, wondering how these bikes are for a beginner come clubman rider. Or are they really for the higher grades. Cheers
All electric bikes are clubman friendly and have multiple “modes” to keep them calm!
I haven’t been riding trials for around 15 years. I’m 60 years old and I went out yesterday to have a go on one of these.
I was truly amazed at its capabilities. I could ride everything I would have done on my old bike in the second to lowest settings. But the lower weight (60kgs) and smoothness of the power delivery, made an old git like me look like I hadn’t been off a bike at all. 😂
I cleaned a steep bank muddy/tree root climb I wouldn’t have been able to on my old bike ( not skilled enough in clutch control).
I had a go on the higher settings and they were too powerful for me.
I was so impressed , I’m buying one 👍
Hey Danny, another Q sorry. Do the mecatecno have a retard type braking like the EM regen? Thinking of getting one or the other but I'm only 57kg dressed in my trials gear and I'm 63.
Thought some "engine braking " might be a good thing. Cheers Steve
@@ianbeardsall4633 just wondering if you have your mecatecno yet. I have a question I'd like to ask. Cheers
I see on the parts diagram that it doesn't have a flywheel. How does it compare to bikes with heavy flywheels?
No problems at all the electric bikes don’t work like that.
I was wondering if there was no minimum weight limit, is the Dragonfly capable of riding the red line at WTC? EM and TY-E have proven it at the national level.@@TrialTube
@@davidige276 I am sure it can in the hands of ORIOL Neguerra
Subtítulos españoles por favor, nos interesa tu canal
I will get them added apologies!!
Your sandbagging you are as good as jeroni, he's my my friend and I hate ta say it,but ya are
That’s a compliment!!
Please test a cheaper version of an electric trials bike without a clutch like a Sur-ron LightBee X or a Talaria Sting R MX4. Could be very interesting what a pro like you can do with them.....with no clutch. Mecatecno is for sure a brilliant bike but too expensive for many of us.
All of those bikes you mentioned are not trials bikes. They are like hybrid electric mountain bike / Moto x bikes. Would rather not pass judgment although I have rode a Surron and I nah e to be honest. What a terrible thing….
I was thinking of converting my Sur Ron to trials. You can put a large sprocket on the rear, 18" wheel and regular trials tire. Bars can be rotated forward/ swapped out. I would want to remove the rear seat/ part of the rear subframe to make it as good as possible. It could work!
The bike looks light weight and capable !!!!!! Is this better than Gas Bikes ????????????????????
Some of us owners sure think so
It’s getting closer all the time!
@@richy84What’s the top speed on your dragonfly? Just curious how they have it geared.
@@James-sf1ci I don’t know honestly. It’s fast enough for standing up off road that’s for sure.
Very nice review !!!! But please don´t put that horrendous rock guitar music anymore , let the waterfalls sound !!!😂😂
Everyone’s a critic…
Just over 100kg, give over Danny, you was parked next to me at Hooton Lodge the other week and your not even 90kg, I'm fat compared to you and I'm 96kg!!!
Haha honest man I weighed myself, I must have dense bones…it’s a bad dooo
Geese I think your better on this thing,,,hahaha
Nah lol but tHank you
Electric NOT for me !!!!
That’s fair, I just review them!
I thought the same until I spent some hours on one, I’ll be selling my montesa and getting an electric bike.
Non pour moi ça reste une moto de merde 😡 on veut garder l'esprit de la bonne odeur de l'essence et non acheter des batteries tous les ans à des prix dépassant le prix d'une petite trial neuf
I get that and we are still very lucky to have all the gasoline bikes but this gives people options of course!
i recently tried a friend's EM bike and hated it. felt heavy and sluggish and I couldn't stand that sound from it. It felt so differently from a real trials bike, it was like something completely different. I have Zero interest in evern Trying it again.
The electric bikes are an acquired taste but this one did me proud over a very long distance!!
The Mecatecno weights less than a normal trial bike. It has 60 kg and is so powerful like a 300 ccm
@@colinmueller_trial trust me they don’t have the same amount of power on take off. Electric bikes aren’t there yet. But this did me proud!
@@TrialTube I ride a Mecatecno and the power is an other , but you can compare it more to a 300ccm than a 125 ccm. 125 rider who ride my bike says it has so much torque like a 300ccm
@@colinmueller_trial if they are a 125 rider it would always feel more powerful. I rode a FACTORY bike in Andorra and I know it was down on power. The factory said this. The power has a different delivery but they still don’t have the same output as combustion still
