  • In this video, I breakdown the recent mma news talking about how Jiri Prochazka is considering a move to middleweight. I talk about if I think this is a good idea, should/if I think he will, and what Dricus Du Plessis said about Jiri! Let me know what you all think down in the comments!

    I hear what your saying but jiri is a big guy and possibly his greatest asset is his ability to take a shot and keep going forward and if he cut extra weight it might hinder him more then anything

    • @janzeman3777
      @janzeman3777 Před 11 dny +2

      His plan is actually not to cut like other mma fighters. He just wants to maintain that weight naturally as he does in 205 he only cuts few pounds just by diet.

    • @BallinOutOfControl08
      @BallinOutOfControl08 Před 11 dny +1

      Yes absolutely right..his chin will be depleted & will get knocked out by faster punchers

      @@BallinOutOfControl08 Do you realize what other fighters do to cut weight right ? Cutting like 10 kg over night is much more depleting and harmful than simply losing some weight over time by changing your diet. Yeah they may put the weight back after the weigh in but it must be very taxing to do thiis often.

      if jiri can cut to middleweight with no problem then the whole middleweight division would be in a big trouble.

    MMA guys are obsessed with weight cutting you don't see this in boxing in boxing guys always go up.He's not small for 205 he's as big as anyone he fights.He can make the weight cut the question with be how well he takes strikes at 185 and can the guys at 185 land shots on him to find out.Doesn't seem very honorable to just try to be a weight bully though.But the matchups would be interesting especially since his chin doesn't seem all that great at 205 wonder what its going to be like at 185.

    • @JakeGerberMMA
      @JakeGerberMMA  Před 11 dny

      Fair points. Boxing doesn’t have a ton of this and same for Muay Thai. I think the grappling aspect makes guys look for the advantages since it’s a full blown fight

  • @BallinOutOfControl08
    @BallinOutOfControl08 Před 11 dny +2

    HELL NO! His chin will be depleted. He is a really big guy, has fought his whole career at LHW. His cardio is insane at LHW & intensity is unmatched. This would ruin his record pretty quickly...

    • @JakeGerberMMA
      @JakeGerberMMA  Před 11 dny

      Fair points. We will see. All depends on what that cut would make it feel like

    If Pereira is serious about his next fight being at HW, I think that Jiri vs. Ankalaev for an interim belt makes sense, maybe in Abu Dhabi. Not a fan of the idea of him going down in weight when there are a lot of up and coming prospects at MW but not much to dream about at LHW.
    On another note, I heard you mentioning Volk at Perth. I actually would like to see him take on Aljo in a 5-round co-main. There's a storyline from when they were both champs, Aljo is not known for his power so no chin concerns for Volk, and the outcome would be interesting for the division. If Volk wins, he's back in the win-column and ready for his title rematch against the winner of Holloway-Ilia, and if Aljo wins, a victory against Volk is very impressive and makes him number one contender. Doubt it happens, though, but hey... 🤷‍♂

      I like it! I wanna see a Volk win. Featherweights top 10 is crazy rn

    @xkolm49 Před 10 dny

    It is not a good idea, unless it turns out he has no one to fight in LHW (Ankalaev doesn't want to fight, Pereira thinking about HW). Jiri naturally belongs to LHW - it is the perfect weight class for him. He did HW in the past, now thinking about middleweight. I belive he would still be successful in middleweight but I just like to see his bombs in LHW.

  • @Mcmahon51
    @Mcmahon51 Před 10 dny

    Jiri said first of all he want get 205 belt and after he can think about going down ( and also mention for him doesn’t exist weight classes mean he could also fight heavy weight as he did in rizin) he know his body as nobody do don’t teach him guys what’s best for him 🫢🤌

    Yiri would dwarf Dricus.Jamahal Hill said the same thing about Alex. We saw how much bigger Alex is than Jamahal. Yiri is not small for the division. That's Dricus pushing his chest out!
    Yiri's best asset is durability, he will loose that cutting that much weight.

      @JakeGerberMMA  Před 11 dny

      Interesting…I see what you’re saying. I’m curious to see what he’d look like at a weigh in for 185. If he’s not super depleted I could see it being a solid move

    • @derrickgraham3180
      @derrickgraham3180 Před 11 dny

      @JakeGerberMMA Going down in weight is never a good decision. History shows that's a no-no.
      That chin gets weak!

    • @Dzenda-qg4hr
      @Dzenda-qg4hr Před 10 dny

      @@derrickgraham3180 that chin gets weak due to a drastic overnight weight cuts, not at all what Jiris intentions are. He naturally maintains 210-215, getting down to middleweight would be done over several months by better diets and maintaining 190 over the course of full fight camp. Not staying as he is and then cutting 30pounds in the last week.

    • @derrickgraham3180
      @derrickgraham3180 Před 10 dny

      @Dzenda-qg4hr Yiri walks around naturally around 215 to 220. That's pretty darn lean. I don't see Yiri making 185 without a pretty hard cut.

  • @Interiorcrocodilealigator10838

    He’d be a fusion of DDP and Luke rockhold
    -samurai
    -possibly bad match up to only Izzy.
    -JIRI VS KHAMZAT if 165 finna be a thing. Why not 195?

    Nah bro, Pereira is the fight to make for Jiri. Give Ankeleav the shot, he has earned it, have Jiri fight on the same card. I dont even understand where this idea came from... not from Jiri.... he has only lost to the champ, makes no sense career wise. Plus he would just be weight bullying, it wont feel right like when Pereira was at 185... like okay we get you can do it... and Jiri prolly could but its not what I wanna see.

    • @janzeman3777
      @janzeman3777 Před 11 dny

      He wants to fight Pereira in Brasil. Pereira declined Ankalaev's Abu Dhabi fight because he wants to fight sooner and there is nobody else but Jiri in lhw for him. Hill already has a fight, Jan Blachowicz is between surgeries or something.
