It’s 2024 and I still listen to this song…
Same
@@medleystudios72 Same here. It was a shame to cancel this show
The most romantic scene in this series is when the captain is flashing back to when he bought the ship, and after he's given the grand tour of the yellow ship, he ignores the salesman entirely, once he sees the dilapidated old firefly sitting alone on the hill. Like a weathered old hound to a hunter, only a spaceman can see the beauty in a machine like serenity.
The name of the episode was "Out of Gas", and it is one of my top 5 fave episodes of the series. My first, being "Jaynetown".
But the look on Mal's face when he first saw Serenity? That's how you know a man has fallen in love.
I couldn't POSSIBLY love this comment more.
Simply beautiful. I’m always drawn back to Firefly occasionally to remind me that no matter the show’s premise, if the themes are strong enough, you can tell any story: freedom, loyalty, found family, love, finding a place you belong in a world that hates you, freeing yourself of your past and becoming the person you want to be more than anything.
@@masonhebb402 In all honesty, it's hard to pick the best, much less the top 5. All the episodes are just the best. Each in their own special ways.
You are mistaken. Weathered old hound is no comparison
In all honesty, Malcolm Reynolds was one of the most amazing Sci-Fi captian's in history. First off, he was played by Nathan Fillion, second, he was loyal, third, he was never the one to shoot you with no reason. His best quotes were: "If someone tries to kill you, you try to kill them right back!" and "I won't always kill you, but when I do, you will be awake, you will be armed, and you will be facing me"
R.I.P. Firefly. A leaf in the wind.
I'm pretty sure the second quote is "You don't know me, so I'm gonna explain this once. I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed."
I also love "I aim to misbehave"
Sci-Fi show with no aliens. Man, what a show!
Sci-Fi show with no aliens. Man, what a show!
Though he did kick that one guy into the engine who was unarmed
This show was pure gold. Fox's biggest mistake was canceling it.
In the end we can't avoid completely joining Mal in it's desire to go back, continue and get more Serenity. But they can't take the sky from us as well. We just rewatch it again and again.
Cancelling it and airing the episodes out of order making people confused as hell
Your preaching to the choir brova
It was part of Fox's ongoing methods of " _Get sci-fi show then cancel it!_ " other show that followed this pattern was Space: Above and Beyond, and probably lots more.
@@Zeithri Wow, it's been awhile since someone mentioned Space: Above & Beyond. Yes, that was also a great sci-fi show. Not quite as good as Firefly, in my opinion, but a great show nonetheless.
This song captured Malcolm Reynolds essence perfectly. I cried. I miss Mal.
"You named your ship after a battle where you were on the wrong Side?"
"I was on the loser Side but not on the wrong Side"
+Scott Johnson It might have been the losing side, still not convinced it was the wrong side
The Alliance supports slavery. The Browncoats are the Union, but they lost this time
The Civil War had nothing to do with slavery. The war was over whether or not Sates had the right to secede from the Union. It's funny that southerners refer to it as the "War of Northern Aggression", when it was the Confederates who fired the first shots at Fort Sumter.
Lincoln, despite being the liberal party of the north, the republican's, presidential candidate, was well recorded as not being bold enough to fight the issue of slavery, believing it would tear the union apart, which he did not want to be remembered for. The south had had steadily growing tensions of slavery and other issues and when the republican candidate won they feared that he would support the republican homeland's policies and views-the north. So they quickly began to work to secede in hopes of escaping all of this, and though the tensions were strong war was inevitable over rather or not this rogue state was legitimate and legal. The emancipation proclamation itself was a far afterthought meant to punish the south and weaken their economy during the war-in fact states that stayed loyal like missouri kept their slaves until the ammendment was passed later on.
That said, the cultural divide between north and south was growing both over slavery and other issues. If the south hadn't of started a war over it there's a strong possibility the north would have instead-and I dont mean the civil war proper. If the south hadn't of seceded there may of been popular cause for the north to do so instead. There were too many issues dividing the two and the political battles between them taking place out west ensured that tensions would only be settled when one side enforced on the other.
That said, both sides like to tell a different story that makes them seem like the hero, however generally any story where there's a clear cut hero is at least 50% lies. There is no black and white in the world, only grey. If you want to claim true objectivity than there are pretty no issues where you shouldn't be at war with both sides, because the truth never fully supports a side like they try to say it does.
Damn straight.
I want this played at my funeral.
You can't take the sky from us.
You can't stop the signal.
Serenity will fly forever in our hearts.
Lol whoever did the special effects won freaking 19 awards, this show holds up so well, does not seem like its 10 years old
8 years later...
Still holds up!
October 2023: still holding up.
@@nonnyena4267 I mean, it does look aged in a lot of moments but that doesn’t matter because the show is carried by its amazing storytelling.
As soon as I heard the first note I knew this was something special.
Still one of the best Firefly songs ever.
Damn. Even after all these years, I LOVE this stuff. 🥲
They lost a lot of money when they killed this off. Look how many of us still pine for it. We buy games, we buy pictures, we buy any damn ruttin thing we can find from this verse... *grin* Most of us wish to live there.
morbidgypsy they killed it off because it was waking people up. What do you think is happening right now? The alliance is winning. Put on your god damn coat and fight
@@stevedave5748 New recruit weasel Sir!
I watched the show 3 weeks ago and have now decided to be retroactively for the past 17 years!

They sold it off to Disney. There are numerous rumors that Disney is going to bring it back it one form, or another, but nothing's been announced.
When you can't run you crawl. And when you can't crawl, when you can't do that. Well... you know the rest.
+Advent3546 You find someone to carry you.
You find someone to carry you

Edit: im not wrong. Thats how that story played out
Im a mean old man
Gotta see this series too. Love the song and video.
How am I just finding this masterpiece? This is shiny as hell.
For the longest time I thought the first lyric about a "barren planet you never did see" was about Hera where Serenity Valley is. I just realized though, it's probably a reference to Shadow, Mal's home planet. The Alliance's ruined it, rendering it barren and uninhabitable. We never got to see it because the show was cancelled before it could explore Mal's backstory...
+Emma Kuhn I thought the lyric was 'a barren planet you never can leave' which could refer to either.
But some of the canon books do refer to Hera as being populated and economically recovering after the War, so you could also be right.
@@adajanetta1 Doesn't matter, could still be Shadow… But at the same time - Hera was a Browncoat world. The Aliance destroyed pretty much everything when they descended on the world and now have to rebuild it. Hence - the Hera that Mal holds dear does not exist anymore. It's not a free Browncoat planet, it's the same Aliance military crap as the rest of the worlds, be it Outer Worlds or the Inner Planets...
And then there's the explanation of why Kaylee and Inara joined the crew. So much character detail left unexplored because they thought they'd get more time.
It refers to hara you ever ask a millitary man he will tell you you never really ever leave a place you lost a a lot of friends in battle at least not in your mind .
@@solosailingboatlife7203 It's even mentioned in one of the episodes. The inability to ever entirely leave such a place. Bushwacked I believe?
This song sends chills down my spine.
If Firefly got a 2nd season, I would definitely nominate for an abbreviated version of this song to be the opening theme music. Definitely leave in the lyrics "It's a fool that does not know his family is his crew."
Never fails...always brings a tear to my eye. You & your crew left us too soon, Captain Reynolds...
Fox may have killed our show, but we crazy Browncoats aren't gone and died yet and gorramit we'll be coming back!
Connor Sorrick maybe, just maybe we'll rise again.
The Captain and Wash have a plan to bring it back. Both actors are in an ad running on You Tube about it. How the story will work with Wash dead, I'm not sure, though certainly there have been characters in other films and shows who didn't stay dead.
Dang, this song is enough to make a grown man cry.
What made this for me was the somber humor and well defined characters.
I loved this the day it came out and revisit it every so often. Named my son Malcolm and now that he's 5 I finally showed this to him and you could see the connection of context finally alight. I'm sure buried somewhere deep, deep down in this thread 8+ years ago there's a comment from me thanking you for this but I truly mean it now, once again, thank you. Long live the cause!
Good luck!
Nice we were gonna name our second child Malcom if it was a boy, instead we got a Kaylee
Reading this now, Jan. 2023. Your son will be 11 this year. Totally awesome!
Big thanks to Escape Key for giving us an extended version of the Firefly Theme.
This is FANTASTIC! Epic song. This show was one of the best ever. Why is it that networks always fail to recognize greatness?
Nathan is a great actor, His emotion and feelings come off so well. The way he was on the ship with that girl lol.. and the Mechanic is amazingly gorgeous.. I can't beleive this show was taken off tv, only reason i saw it was because of my friend and now im addicted
I saw this on Syfy, but never was able to watch all of the episodes because Syfy wouldn't keep them on a schedule, I went to best buy once and saw the whole ten episodes pack and bought them, the when the Serenity movie came out I bought that too, they had 3/4 of them on Saturday night
I love the Firefly theme song and every since I first heard it wished there was longer full length song version. I love what been done with it here!
This great song truly does bring tears to my eyes. I love Firefly.
Hearing this brings such a big smile to my face. Firefly will live forever in our hearts...
I come to this song every now and then. And I already searched for it on Spotify, amazon Music and a few more. But it never failed to make me happy seeing it back up in my recomended list on CZcams. Please notify me if you know on which platform it is. I need it. This song is legendary!
That guy is an amazing actor. Hands down... His feelings and emotions come off so amazingly
This song still makes me tear up.
I have been listening this regularly for the last 10+ years. Best thing to happen to this show since the show itself!
Some people would stop the holocaust if they could change one thing. Some would stop 9/11. Others might end the cold war. I would prevent Fox from cancelling this show.

+Ben Wall same
+Ben Wall Yep.
I would too
+Ben Wall same here to this very day I still wish it was back
I watched that episode today (PHENOMENAL episode. One of my absolute favorites. Ariel is my favorite). I've never cried at a television show, but man, I totally teared up when he said that line. And it was the second time I watched it, too.
We all love firefly, but anyone think that it may have been ahead of its time? If it came out today i think it would be alive and thriving, but it came out during the early 2000's the beginning of the plague of reality television
A bit late, but... Hell, itt was. The whole 'muffled sounds in space' thing, for instance, 'Battlestar Galactica' was sooo praised for was downright stolen from 'Firefly'. And a space show with no aliens whatsoever, what a crazy thought!
And by the way, this whole show featured more actually strong and independent women, with _four_ of them on the Serenity alone, than all those god damn 'woke' bullshit shows nowadays.
@@Furzkampfbomber issue is the only women they’d consider strong is Zoe and even that’s questionable due to her being married to Wash. a modern show wouldn’t have them married and wash would just be an idiot trying to win her over and failing constantly.
Enara does sex stuff so she’s out since she’s to feminine.
Kyle doesn’t beat the shit out of people and needs the ‘strong men’ to save her.
River has a mental and needs her big brother to keep her out of trouble.
Now while here in reality we understand this is all surface level and there is much more to their characters. But we all know a modern firefly wouldn’t be anything like it was back then.
@@Wesley-1776 I think your analysis nailed it quite nicely.
The fun thing about Enara is that companions are considered _very_ powerful and influential, that their service is not about sex at all (although it _can_ be part of it), that the most powerful people in the system stand in line for an appointment and that it is absolutely not unusual that companions turn an offer from one of them down if they consider the customer (which can be both men or women) not worthy of their service.
But nowadays, you are absolutely right, they need to look and act in a way woke people think men generally act, i.e. as immature, rude and reckless as possible, while men need to be painted as villains and drooling idiots and kicked into the sand.
Hell, I can't even imagine movies like Alien and Aliens being made anymore. Ripley would be way too feminine nowadays and even Vasquez from Aliens, who _might_ tick all the woke boxes at first glance, is way too feminine as well in the end and never seems to disdain her own femininity _and,_ capital crime, she sees and treats her the male Marines as equals and is perfectly capable to stand her own ground amongst them without permanently belittling them.
That... is... so... goddamn... beautiful.
Ok I know it was the movie, but River's fight with the reevers was GREAT! You think she's toast and in the next scene you see a little fist smacking a reever right in the jaw!
+The Christian Business Network Forum "Remember: I can kill you with my brain."
You never underestimate River Tam!
@@TheArchermonkey Still not convinced that she could beat Jayne in a serious fight one on one without weapons.Pretty good fight though.
@@M.P.Athletics She does not need to fight him, but just has to offer him a better job...
@@Furzkampfbomber Yeah ok, you got a point there.
Wow! I loved that show. The music - I've never heard that entire song.
A story from the losing side of a war... I really like the premise of this show
I have this as a playlist all alone. I just can't get tired of hearing it. Beautiful song, and a great tribute to a beautiful show.
Every so often I just get the need to click on this song's bookmark and hear it again. And I'm never disappointed.
The Browncoats *will* rise again. We have to, gorramn it . . .
SinDawg030 Your Ruttin right we do Gorramit!
They can't stop the signal +SinDawg030
I don't think the ship will sail again, but I keep going on that ship, a few times a year.
You can be a brown coat right now. You're a slave to the system, fight!
You know what's interesting? Including the two years of the events (2002 and 2007), it was six years between the cancellation of Firefly and the release of Serenity. In the first episode, it's stated that the show begins six years after the Battle of Serenity Valley. Cool.
Just stopped in again to hear this beautiful song, and to weep once more over our lost Firefly.
MAGNIFICENTLY SHINY.
All these years later, I came across the mp3 album I downloaded, and remembered this video where I first heard it. Though the album version is nice, this acoustic version is so much more moving.
This literally gave me chills. Absolutely fantastic.
I favorited this video a long time ago and I keep coming back to listen. It ALWAYS gives me chills and ALWAYS brings tears to my eyes. God I miss Firefly.
ABSOLUTE LOVE FOR YOU AND THIS SONG!
You have a gorgeous voice and I'm so glad you used it for this fan-ness!
I always feel cheated that I have to pick favorite episodes instead of favorite seasons >.
How can there be 2 perfect versions of this song?!
Watched this again. Still made me tear up. I miss Mal.
fox screwed up dumping firefly ...I own it on DVD so get to watch it all the time ...not bound to the fickle fates of Netflix or other streaming network!!
And fox played the episodes out of order which was a mindfuck. It was like...are these episodes supposed to be serialized or not, because they are talking to each other like we're supposed to remember past events, but it hasn't happened yet.
Perhaps an interesting fact: For the series and the final movie they build the actual Serenity in 1:1. So every scene that plays on the ship was really filmed on the ship :-)
Love it, Firefly is my favorite series so I'm totally in love with this!!!
This is a really great video, and song. It really does the show justice, considering how great the show was, that is saying a lot.
10 years later this is still my favorite rendition of this song Congrats girl!
"When you've walked my road and you've seen what I've seen
Well, you won't go talking about righteous men
You know damn well why I wanna keep to me sky
Never cry 'neath nobodies heel again
I've seen torment wreaked upon innocent souls
Seen sane men mad and good men die
I've been hounded, hated, married and tricked
I've been tortured, cheated, shot and died
You won't see no tears when I say goodbye
I've still got my family and my Firefly!"
Love this so much. This song sends chills down my spine.
the best show ever
More and more I feel a kinship with Mal. We who know meaningless war find this show illuminating
haven't seen the show, can't remember how I came across this song, but I literally love her voice

Just watched it in full for the first time this weekend. I am yearning for more. Good song.
Why do i cry on this song, cant swallow... i don't feel like this on funerals... shit

Because of the memories. When I close my eyes I can see myself on the Serenity 😍
oh dear gods of space n time!
it's been a long time since I've heard a great song that sends shivers up my spine n raises my nape hairs!
I watched a program explaining why firefly was cancelled. Apparently appealed to ,ore females than males. They decided the show would not have a large enough audience. I loves this series.
Ellen Cole The fact that they thought a sci-fi show appealing to women was a bad thing is incredibly depressing.
Well, if this is the same FOX that runs FOX News, then I can see why they thought that.
Manly tears were shed this day.
Great song. I loved this story and so do my grandsons. We love to watch it over and over again.
I loved how it references Mal losing his faith at Serenity.
makes me cry every time I watch it. So great.
so great.
Mal: "You wanna run this ship?!"
Jayne: "Yeah!"
Mal: "Well...you can't"
I love the dialogue, it's so realistic, how many times has that happened to you? the great one liners and the great actors. Damn you Fox.
Really great job on this song. I just love and miss Firefly so much.
Thx very much, great song and a nice voice.
