    I got pulled into the northbound Cajon Pass weigh station on I-15 for a Level 1 DOT inspection while bobtailing home from the JCT drop yard. Here's how it went.

    After my initial inspection when I bought my truck back in 2008, I did a voluntary inspection about 3 months later, and NONE ever since, but I always keep my rig in tip-top shape. 😄Hopefully I can get away for another 3 years till I retire.

    Just in fyi when doing in inspection the dot wants you to blast air horn when he is under the truck. Second when he is checking the brakes they want you to rev it up and pop the clutch. Thats how they check the braking system. They are always wanting you to refer to them as punk

      lol Sounds like a lot of fun...but also a great way to piss them off, in reality. I wish I was still in a truck with a foot operated clutch

    It should not be legal for someone to become a dot officer without having at least 5 years of professional driving experience

      This is how it should've went
      Driver: hey boss I'm pcing back home
      Officer: ah alright well I'll just check your logs service brakes ebreaks then I'll send you on your way

    Lazy officers. They pick on bobtails, straight trucks and hotshots more than tractor trailers because they're easier to give a L1. Sad but true.

      Lol right? I forgot to mention that part in the description. It did indeed say closed when I was by the off-ramp. They opened it back up just in time for my DriveWyze system to tell me to go in.

    People don’t realize the BS that truckers go thru so all of you can have food on the table 😑

  • @richardirvin5815
    @richardirvin5815 Před rokem +1

    They need to come up with an update so you can switch the truck into DOT inspection mode so the brakes don’t go into hold mode that looked like a hassle

      I think I figured out a solution to this now, based on a suggestion from another comment.

    The general public does not understand the BS that truckers endure on a daily basis, and they don't care.

    You DO NOT have to help them bastards inspect you. 5thA protects you from self incrimination. But choose to or not.

      Because politicians drive 4 wheelers. They don’t drive trucks.

    Is your camera system all Garmin? Man, all your videos are nice and clear! Want to get myself something like that for my truck.

    • @ScottZane
      @ScottZane  Před 5 měsíci

      No. Only the interior camera is a Garmin (Garmin 45). The front is the front only part of an Eagle Eye 4 system, which has 3-4 cameras in all. The sides are the sides only of another 4-camera system called VSYSTO V7. I have a video already up on the channel from a few months back showing the entire setup and why I'm running all or parts of three different camera systems. I'll reply with the link in a few.

    I've had no problems with California scales. The only one that seems to pull me in for inspection is TRUCKEE before you go over Donners pass

    • @ScottZane
      @ScottZane  Před rokem

      It's always the ones in Utah that always seem to like me. Both of the last two Level 1's that I got were at Utah POE's. The first one was at the northbound I-15 scale at the AZ/UT border. The second one was at the westbound Wendover POE

    • @robertanderson1986
      @robertanderson1986 Před rokem

      That's why if you go to California, get your brakes adjusted at a Big name shop.
      So if they claim you have a problem you just got inspection.

      Same here I've had no problems in California. It's usually the Oregon weigh stations that love me.

    Your truck doesn't have a button to turn off the hill assist??

    • @ScottZane
      @ScottZane  Před rokem

      That's not hill assist. It's a new system that will keep the service brakes applied persistently in any terrain until I push on the accelerator pedal. It activates even on completely flat ground, as you saw happen in this video. HSA only activates in uphill terrain of 3% or greater grades. HSA lets go of the brakes 1 second after you let your foot off of the service brake pedal. With this new system, I can apply the service brakes with enough force to trigger the system's "hold" feature, then let my foot completely off of the brake pedal and it will keep the service brakes in the applied position persistently until I hit the accelerator pedal. I think it's designed to prevent mishaps caused by accidental roll backs resulting from drivers not applying sufficient pressure to the service brake pedal and them not noticing that their truck is rolling backward until they've already backed into somebody else.

    • @Takaride
      @Takaride Před rokem

      @@ScottZane it's basically the same thing as "hill assist." I've noticed that hill assist holds until you touch the accelerator. Have you tried turning off hill assist on flat ground before the system activates to the hold position to see if it stops it from triggering the hold? You'd think turning of "hill assist" would stop any hold on the braking system??

    • @ScottZane
      @ScottZane  Před rokem +1

      @@Takaride my experience with HSA is it releases the brakes 1 second after letting your foot off the brake pedal. It'll do that regardless of how quickly you get accelerator pedal applied. I'll experiment a bit with it on this truck tomorrow, but I doubt disabling HSA will have any impact on this system. I'll give it a try anyway though.

    • @ScottZane
      @ScottZane  Před rokem +1

      I decided to play around with disabling HSA while stopped on flat terrain, at your advice. You're right. Disabling HSA actually did stop the brakes from going into HOLD mode. I can go extended periods without ever getting a Level 1 inspection though, compared to other drivers I know. If I get another L1 inspection again, I'll be sure to experiment more with your idea and try those parts of the inspection both with HSA enabled and disabled. Great idea, and thanks for the suggestion!
