Siskel & Ebert - Die Hard 2: Die Harder (1990)

  • Siskel and Ebert reviews an American action thriller film "Die Hard 2", or either call it "Die Hard 2: Die Harder" in July 4, 1990. Bruce Willis reprises the role as an NYPD rookie cop John McClane, alongside alongside Bonnie Bedelia, William Sadler, Art Evans, William Atherton, Franco Nero, Dennis Franz, Fred Thompson, John Amos, and Reginald VelJohnson.
It is a sequel to 1988's original classic film "Die Hard", and is the second installment of the "Die Hard" franchise.
Both of them really enjoyed this movie for the action sequences and some cool special effects. Gene gave four stars as it is one of the best sequels of 1990, and one of them great summer blockbusters. Roger actually liked it a lot more than the original one. They actually preferred this installment as a terrific improvement over the last summer sequels, "RoboCop 2" and "Another 48Hrs" as a major disappointments.
I agree with Gene and Roger, I also enjoyed it a lot. The action scenes were cool, the special effects were really impressive, and Bruce Willis was still charming and good heart as John McClane. Although, the foul-language was too much. Anyway, it was a very terrific entertainment film. It does lacks the fresh thrills of its predecessor, but it still works as an over-the-top and reasonably taut, big-budget sequel, with plenty of set pieces to paper over the plot deficiencies. A marginal thumbs up for me on "Die Hard 2: Die Harder".
    Die Hard 2: Die Harder (1990) 3.5/4 👍👍👍

This came from an era when action movies were really on a hot streak. I think the Indiana Jones pictures kicked the genre into high gear and got a lot of directors trying to one-up them for energy, tension and set pieces. Look at from this early '90s time period the incredible Terminator 2, Total Recall, Speed, Point Break and The Fugitive. I think there are even more worthy of honorable mentions. Die Hard 2 is still one of the best action pictures around.
