  • A few days ago Roger Federer announced that he won't be competing in 2021 anymore and that he'll have to go through surgery on his knee. Federer is 40 years old already and it looks like we will never see Roger in his prime again. This is a video tribute to the man who made so many people fall in love with tennis. Hope you guys enjoy it.

      Tennis owes a lot to federer and mark my words those who have watched federer from the beginning till 2019 final especially who were professionals after decade or two when Djokovic nadal will retire and no more marketing promotions money pumped into create a hype about Djokovic is the best then debate will come to conclusions feeder was greatest ever he set the bar he made tennis what it is today and if Djokovic is honest and really pure heated guy will admit federer was his inspiration he changed because of federer in the movie rush legendary rivals niki lauda James hunt how niki lauda credits James to be born as tennis player and there’s only one weakness which is why federer loses against his opponents yet he is stubborn and keep repeating is his bad habit

      Not a GOAT advocate myself (except the very odd occasion of trolling here and there), but I see a lot of Fed fans in super defensive and salvage mode this year. If you think he's the GOAT, it's fine to refer to him as such. Neither Djoker nor Rafa fans cared that he was miles ahead of both of them in slams, weeks at #1 and YE#1 long before they caught up and (in Djoker's case) surpassed him; he was never the GOAT to them. Plus, if Fed fans stick to their guns over Fed as GOAT, it will keep the Djoker Bros busy on these boards and provide meaning and purpose in their lives, as we all know they are more obsessed with Fed than they are fans of Djoker. ;-)

      @@hitgodmb8659 Have other Djoker fans asked you to speak on their behalf? Bit presumptuous of you to assume you can speak for other people, in my opinion. Most of the Djoker fanbase on these boards and elsewhere in tennis fandom have been calling Federer 'weak era champ' for years. I simply cannot see how anyone can believe this about a sportsman and simultaneously think he's the greatest ever, because the whole point of the weak era argument is to invalidate his achievements.

    His exceptional anticipation and otherworldly movement and court coverage make up the foundation of his shot making playing style. He didn't begin to dominate until he finally found his feet to set the stage for his strokes. At his age, even if he was injury free, he couldn't possibly move like he used to. Given his (re)injury is of the knee. I say he's done.

      well, what about the fact that he destroyed Marin Cilic this year (two 6-2 sets won) at the French Open? (Granted Cilic is not exactly in his prime, either - but he was good enough to win his first round demolition-style). Unless Cilic was just giving the win to Roger, I would say that is a very good sign for a guy who has just come back from being out over a year, and having two knee surgeries, and he was only playing Roland Garros to get a little match play. Then, in the next round he out-grinded Koepfer, who is as tough a clay court grinder as there is. I believe Federer would have won that in at least an hour less time had there been fans to inspire him. Then he would have probably played Berretini, and - who knows. Anyways, I use his Roland Garros this year as my main piece of evidence in arguing against you, as you too-easily pass him off as being done "at his age." Who knows! Maybe his knee is going to be stronger than it has been in a few years, and he is going to find a way to play quick-strike tennis to win points faster, and will enjoy playing on tour more than he ever has. That is what sort of happened at the '17 Aus Open - he enjoyed playing tennis more than ever. I think it's safe to say that, if his knee heals strongly and he comes back, he will again enjoy it more than ever.

      @@johnjeffers1524 I mean, your optimism is refreshing, I suppose. As for what happened at the slams this year, I got really bummed out days ago when I thought back to Wimbledon and realised that Fed would have very likely made the final again if his knee had fully healed.

    @johnjeffers1524 Pƙed 2 lety +4

    LOL at Roger's video. I love this guy. Mixed messages EVERYWHERE in that video. But what I love most about it is just that! - there would be no mixed messages if he were not hoping, yearning - and will be *striving* for, if the surgery went well - a return to the ATP Tour. I believe he will make a return, because I know that he wants it very badly. Of course I hope the best for him, but to be honest, I would be surprised if he wins another 500 level event. But! ... you never know. I kind of would not be surprised if he comes back and makes one more good run at a Major. It all depends on how the surgery went, and how well he lets the knee heal up. He is going to have to be very very patient, and let that joint heal up as perfect as can be. ... And here is the good news, fellow Fed fans - he clearly KNOWS he has to do that. That's why he makes a major point of saying how long he is going to be on crutches, and out of "the game" (as in, not able to play even on his back yard court). He is committed to letting it heal, and making one last comeback. I am convinced of it. Again, though - all depends on the surgery's success, and the knee's healing. ... GOD BLESS HIM! Love the guy so much. We miss you Fed. Hope you enjoy life to its fullest while letting the knee heal to its fullest.

    I wish you a healthy recovery!

    Roger is The Athlete of all athletes. His game transcends the ordinary limits of a ”sport”, it is in effect performing art we enjoy while witnessing him play. An aesthetic experience I never grow weary of watching. So, I have come to realize I cannot but follow the Maestro’s sublime example and try and model my game along the fine and elegant lines of Roger Federer’s art. My effort may fall short more or less blatantly but it is the legacy, a deep understanding of the game and its true bio-mechanical and creative potentials, I am following and subscribing to. A rigorous journey, road less travelled and never completed. Attesting to the insurmountable greatness of the one who re-defined the game.

    It's very difficult to come back after the surgeries. They remove a piece of your cartilage. This is your shock absorbers for your knee. He'd be lucky to be able to still run at 55 let alone play on tour at 41. It's sad to see him go because to me him and Sampras were the most fun to watch.

    Honestly i don't think Roger can win a tiitle anymore, let alone a grand slam. I just hope that he breaks connors record of wins, he only needs 24, but this will also be hard, he will have to play a full season, with at least 12 tournaments and win at least 2 matches on each tournament.It was a pleasure to watch him, unfortunately no athlete can run away from time.

      I think he *will* come back - and I think he will be able to win a 250 - but maybe just one. IDK. You are very soberly hopeful and rational, there - a goal of winning 24 more matches would be do-able. ... But! I know Federer would not try to come back one more time just to break such a record, especially at 250 events. ... Anyways, I believe that, as long as whatever surgery he had was a success (I am wondering if it was "micro-fracture" surgery), and the knee heals up strong, he will find a way to play at a high enough level to win a few rounds at Majors - and, hey, with the crowd-help, and the opponent fighting the Federer Mystique (which would be stronger than ever), he can surely make some noise in the second week of a Major. ... Ah whatever; I am pipe-dreaming. I just hope his knee heals up as strong as possible.
