I remember when Chad filled in for Marco Minneman on the Steven Wilson tour for the Raven album. His appearance was pretty impromptu so one could forgive him for any discrepancies on such involved material. Not a chance, this dude didn’t break a sweat. Pulled it of flawlessly. The one thing that stands out is a really involved musical section and he pulled out of it a crazy fill that fit perfectly and was technically breathtaking, so much so the whole place collectively gasped in amazement because it was such a deft display of pure craftsmanship. A true legend of the instrument and a national treasure as far as I’m concerned…

Watching and hearing him play with Allan Holdsworth always gave you a face busting grin. It seemed like the best kind of musical sensory overload possible. Like he was trying to break everything and still make it work, (it looked like a kid having too much fun). He gave you way more than enough to try to focus on. When you took a break from zeroing in on Wackerman, There was Holdsworth putting out such a vastness of brain melting excellence that there was no chance of soaking it all in. There are lots of brilliant guys doing shows now, but that was some of the greatest %&*# of all time.

I gave Chad my Swiss Army knife to open up a box of compact discs that would be up for sale post-show. He thanked me and smiled. We got a little bit of merch out on the table and then he said he could do the rest. He was so 'normal.' Then he played a great show with Allan and (I believe) Jimmy Johnson. Maybe one of the most underrated drummers of all time. Chad's an absolute musical beast.

what a perfect performance. Chad is always so on point. His sound, cymbals, dynamics, fluidity and groove are such an enhancement to the music he is part of. Always adding a special something without getting in the way of other musicians. One of the greatest and most inventive drummers around today and my favorite Holdsworth drummer for sure.

Last time I saw Allan play was in Southampton in UK in Dec 2007 in a pub near me.
With Chad & Jimi Johnson. What a treat & i would have missed it had a friend not phoned me the day before to notify me. Thank you Sandy

My personal favourite drummer I‘ve heard. He sounds from the future.
I love the dark and mid-scooped tones he gets out of his kits.

Chad is exceptional! I love his playing, I was lucky my first teacher showed me his first album on the first lesson, I had no idea what fusion was but it blew me away.

Holdsworth's sheer genius is well established but often overlooked are Paul Williams vocal contributions to the period beginning with Tempest and continuing through the IOU years..
