Finally I’ve seen you play something that I can also play

This is what happened to me yesterday when I wrote and recorded a very short polyrhytmic piece. Notating it was very interesting. I asked a few people and everyone had a different notation answer. I was so into creating it that it was great Anyway once everything was over I sat back and my mind was saying 'all this effort for that little piece of music's blah, blah, blah. I'll be writing more Polyrhythm stuff for sure. Good bye ego. Ha ha.

Somewhere in the mid 90's on August 22nd , a friend of mine says do you want to go with me to see Missing Persons tonight ...i go F--K yeah and it's my Birthday ! And it was at pool hall across the street from the Rio in las vegas the hotel that latter built a special room for Prince ! And im right in front of Dale singing along with Her and between songs i tell her its my Birthday...and after the Show , Terry was at a desk with hats , shirts , posters and other stuff and im looking at styff with my friend and Dale walks up and says give him a Poster ...and Terry looks at her ? And she says.. it's his Birthday ! And he says here Happy Birthday 😊 And she signed it ..I Sang For You ! And obviously they sounded great and he and Neil Pert we're the Best Drummers I've ever seen !

I’ve experienced both! From the time I heard this song until about the year 2006, I (incorrectly) felt it and counted it off like the first part of the video. I always knew something was wrong, so I counted the total strokes until the definitive “one” downbeat when the rest of the band comes in and counted backwards from there. It was at that moment that it hit me… the first stroke from JB is an eighth note “pickup” after the “three” on the count-in!!

Being a forever student is so much better than painting yourself into corners being a forever teacher. I know JP is both, he’s a great player. But. Teaching, at a high level, you’re forced to be a mystic who always has something to say and change about the individual’s creative drive. “If you can’t generate this wacky exercise on the fly, let me ‘teach you to do so’,” well, it really takes a forward-thinking student to hear that and go anywhere with it except back to the Xbox… Ignore me I’m just philosophizing!
