Mr. John Lee Hooker was a genius.
One of the greatest disappointments in my life occurred in 1971.
JLH was playing at the Golden Bear theater in Berkeley.
At the time I was unfamiliar with his music and I passed up the chance to see/hear him perform live.
In years since I have become a huge bkues fan and still to this day regret not seeing the legendary John Lee Hooker.
I never got another chance. Still bothers me 50 years later.

Best musician for me. Its all about the emotion. Music without it is just a bunch of rytmic tunes for me.

As an addenda to my previous comments I recognize, thanks to another comment, that this is not the track (I cover the waterfront) that I was thinking of. Sorry! my mistake. But his guitaring was still poor and well out of tune, so I stand by that which I said in that regard.

Not only is the guitar well out of tune but he is murdering this song. He has no idea of the sophisticated chords in the original. He's just making up stuff of the cuff and passing it off as "I Cover the Waterfront". Rubbish!

+aristotle358 ; Is there a version of "I Cover The Waterfront" in the Jazz/Blues idiom that you could recommend to me? I don't like this version at all.

Johnnyc drums The version by the Ink Spots is good.

aristotle358 ; My mind is blank, obviously. Thanks, I'll give it a shot. Dinah Washington comes to mind, I don't know why; Image maybe? I'm actually a big fan of Hooker but this is unrecognizable, not that this, as such is a bad thing. I just don't dig it. Thanks Aristotle; Sally forth and carry on smartly.

      This is somewhat comical!
I saw Willie Nelson do something similar a few years back on TV.
They seem to get older, and just wing it?
I'm not a fan of Willie, but the WTF was high on his strumming, and catterwalling.
      Lol!!!!
