MysteryLies yeah I get you. What happens on the day? Do they just check your grades and stuff? Or is it more interview style, get to know you? Only worried about academics because I got 2 fails on my transcript 🤦♂️
N N : I’m not sure how different it is for each area or if it is the same or similar, but at my groups session, we had an orientation of sorts where we were informed about what we would do during the few hours we were there and could ask questions if we had any. We then did a Timed Written Test from a booklet in both Literacy and Numeracy with multiple choice answers. (It is really a test to see what knowledge you have, and what sort of job positions you’re suited for.) Then when that was all done, we had another info session and get called for 1-on-1 to receive the results and talk over the options from there. Sorry for the ramble of information, but I also hope it helps just that little bit. 😊
MysteryLies yeah so I’ve heard.. sounds like pretty much everything I’ve read and been told spot on. No problem thank you very much, hope to see you around mate. I’ll be going for an officer role for the army reserve.

Know how long you will be in the military for and the lengths of trading etc, research some current army operations and know the army values as you will likely be asked. Lol that blueprint sticks with you.. "Watch now for a demonstration" I did 3 years at 1RTB and i could still recite a lesson with that patter 10 years later.
Yeah mate its like a range declaration isn't it.. I think ever Kapooka instructor would fall in love with being a School of infantry Section Commander your kind of left alone and have a lot of scope for personality and creative motivation.
Thanks for doing this video cas, it's incredible advice mate, at my school we had a air force service man an army officer come and talk to us about careers in the adf, talked about how to enlist and also mad sure everyone knew it was Important to train hard before enlisting so you have the best chance of getting in, I plan to enlist in about 12 months before I start my last year in school in 2021 and will hopefully by January 2022 be able to then take the step forward once i finish my hsc then go to kapooka and then go from there
Mitchell mate sounds like you have a plan that’s more than most and remember military wants you to do well at school and it all goes toward your enlistment so make Mum and dad proud as well as yourself and knuckle down to be that best version of yourself then your actions define you
Been in for nearly a year now and what you really want is to get to BFA standard before Kapooka. At basic, most people will actually loose fitness as most of your days consists of Drill, weapon handling and really just being messed around by your RI's. The PT sessions they do there are very generalised, as in for those who have never really been in a gym before conducting lifts or working out in general. Depending on your IET school as well, if you fail your BFA when you get there, you'll be either put into a holding Platoon or be given a warning to pass next time they conduct one. I know if it's a non Combat Core they are much more lenient with BFA failures, compared to combat cores. (For obvious reasons) This is just purely off my and a couple of the boys experiences. It's defiently not fun doing Remedial PT with the PTI's.... Great video like always mate, oldy but a Goldy 🤙
Really enjoyed this...and I am preparing for my fitness test and I can pass the PFA already....I am in reasonable shape but working harder on my cardio though. My one big worry is not my ability to pass the PFA (not a problem), and I have a 'can do' attitude to life, but I have had for 12 years or more a very small hernia, that really is just a fat belly button, and doesn't cause me any problems or pain...I just don't want to be disqualified for something that honestly doesn't impact me at all, and I have been on the wait list to get it cut out for 10 years but doctors have told me it is so minor that it most likely will never cause a problem all my life...just worried that my medical will fail
Four Owls hey dude I love Owls by the way.. That’s a tricky one and a conversation between you and the Assessment Session Doctor I’d say just go for it and be prepared to explain it when you get your top to tail checked out.. Stick to action and face dilemmas as they occur there is nearly always a solution.. Let us know how it goes too
Also one more thing make sure you do the correct technique because a lot of people don’t know and they get almost all of their push ups taken away from you because you didn’t go low enough or sagging at the hips

Back in the day when I enlisted in the Australian army.the fitness requirements come to me in writing , i new what I hade to do a month or so before I was to be tested ,, as I understand,,fail the test your out , pass the test your in , we’ll what a load of bull shit , 75 recruits I came second in all the test I was in right .. the guy that came first was a ex sas dude reenlisting ,, my hat off to that man he was a machine , as for the other 73 recruits on that day. , in my opinion they all should have been sent home ..that was 35 years ago I left Australia and whent to France I joined the legion I put in 8 years , for the life of me I still can’t speak French.and as as painful an experience it was I would do it over and over again ..no regrets
Try “death by beep”. Run 4,5,6 level then stop for 60-90 sec, the run 5,6,7 level and rest for another 60-90 sec then run 6,7and 8 level. Practice fartlak running. One Long running per wk and you will smash it.
Females who fail the army PFA have the option to apply for a training program that will get them ready as well (organised by the army)...this is purely for females though
Also the aboriginal entry system its completely wrong almost criminal the ADF is not the place for identity politics while having as a slogan we are all one army BULLSHIT not good enough is not good enough notice feminists are quiet on this one.
Please note females, once you're at kapooka that safety net is GONE. You fall behind you'll be backsquatted and will have to work harder to get back into a training platoon. Don't get in a mindset on relying on a fallback or safety net. Do it right the first time and your not wasting your time and effort and your also going to be better prepared for the next level.
@@inthetrencheswithcas1762 I wouldn't call it a reward, more of a second chance for those who are further behind than others and need more guidance to get to the standard required by the ADF. Everyone ultimately needs to pass the PFA to get enlisted/go to Kapooka. At least this way the people that do this program can be sure they are ready. I've also heard of many fit women in the past doing the program to additionally help them adjust to Army discipline. Everyone's on their own path but we'll all eventually get to the same goal. It's not worth having a negative attitude toward this program rather encourage anyone who is willing to give it a go as they show resilience. The hardest part is applying for the Army.
Just letting everyone know once you pass that pfa at DFR don’t let that standard drop because once you arrive at kapooka you will have to do it again and I know it sounds stupid but people do fail it once their in
Bob these people will truly suffer physically if they don't get it that this is no where near the standard of Operational or army fitness requirements. Jungle, Desert, Bush or just the never ending toll that the career takes out on you without being in shape it will strip you of everything hey.

Soviet Beverage mate no one ever bitches and whinges during testing they are on their best behaviour trying to get the tick.. I refer to the attitude that you bring for the day it is impossible to be right for the army if you can’t pass the physical as I explained because you have all the time and the tools to succeed, saying that women are still given a special program residential just to get them ready after they fail due to bad attitude it’s a crime and endangers the rest of their team in the future.

I’ve been given an enlistment date for July but obviously will have my PFA in the next coming weeks. I am pretty right with everything but am just struggling a big with maintaining my upper body strength and getting the reps up for my pushups, this video helped me a heap though and gave me lots of motivation, so thank you!! However do you have any further tips on how to maintain upper body strength? And body weight exercises I could be doing?
Hey Sophie, aim to pass at at least the mens lowest standard if not surpass it and the best way to do this is through Burpees including the push up at the bottom, dips, bench press if possible with Corona restrictions, push ups to failure every day you wont be able to do enough to hurt yourself so you will be fine and also planking to be able to prone hold for at least 2 minutes. try and get to 30 Push Ups so you actually get to functional strength.. Good luck tell me how you go.
True all push ups should be done to cadence, I don't understand why RAAF get to wear their sleeves rolled up? or get to wear their uniform badly and with no standards or without head dress or get a stripe for not simply being in and not doing a course or have such a low fitness standard ie come over to army mate well make you welcome..

Started training my cardio and beep test went from a 6-7 maximum to a 10-11.
Also helps to train on the different envirnoment and heat as im living up here in Remote NT.
Boxy great to hear and your body will always remember it’s strength but now you have improved mobility...
Where snouts in the NT I’ve been across most of the North
I believe the best thing you are doing Dig is speaking to your audience in a manner that many of them will never have been spoken to before. Good on you mate.
Cheers Opal most of my career success came from staying in the trenches with the lads instead of separating myself from their current lived experience and also just being fitter than them allows you to actually teach them less related topics in a way they already trust you..
I’m not going into the Army I’m headed for navy but this has helped a huge amount cheers Cas.

Just did a practice PFA. You should aim for commando levels for push ups and sit ups should be done until time expires. Even the chicks can do them better than some of the blokes that were there. Aim for 10.1 on the beep test as well
Another super great, informative and funny production xx

In The Trenches With Cas you always make me laugh, everything is more fun with you involved ❤️
cheera for the advice. i did pfa today and got 44 push ups, 100 sit ups and 10.1 beep test
I just had my YOU Session a couple of days ago, and watching this video gave me an extra boost of confidence that I’ll make it through the rest of the assessments, so thank you!
MysteryLies how was it? Mine is in a few days.
N N : it was easier than I was imagining it to be, while still being difficult, if that makes sense?
MysteryLies yeah I get you. What happens on the day? Do they just check your grades and stuff? Or is it more interview style, get to know you? Only worried about academics because I got 2 fails on my transcript 🤦♂️
N N : I’m not sure how different it is for each area or if it is the same or similar, but at my groups session, we had an orientation of sorts where we were informed about what we would do during the few hours we were there and could ask questions if we had any.
We then did a Timed Written Test from a booklet in both Literacy and Numeracy with multiple choice answers. (It is really a test to see what knowledge you have, and what sort of job positions you’re suited for.)
Then when that was all done, we had another info session and get called for 1-on-1 to receive the results and talk over the options from there.
Im currently in the Australian Army Cadets and this is useful information, cheers!

The active app is super helpful for anyone looking to get fit. And excell in the tests.
Yes it is mate I totally agree and support
Always do more than the minimum....comfortably, then you can push it hard!
Aim for a million push ups and 60 will feel easier that’s how I used to break 100 on the two minute test. I always felt like I needed more time so I could do more and the run I wasn’t a great runner I just tried harder than anyone else

Sure mate, I would say make sure you have researched the role and the corps that you would like to go into after duntroon. Know how long you will be in the military for and the lengths of trading etc, research some current army operations and know the army values as you will likely be asked. Just be confident and ask Cas, all the best mate

Thanks for doing this video cas, it's incredible advice mate, at my school we had a air force service man an army officer come and talk to us about careers in the adf, talked about how to enlist and also mad sure everyone knew it was Important to train hard before enlisting so you have the best chance of getting in, I plan to enlist in about 12 months before I start my last year in school in 2021 and will hopefully by January 2022 be able to then take the step forward once i finish my hsc then go to kapooka and then go from there
Mitchell mate sounds like you have a plan that’s more than most and remember military wants you to do well at school and it all goes toward your enlistment so make Mum and dad proud as well as yourself and knuckle down to be that best version of yourself then your actions define you
Did you make it?
Great vid, brother.
It stuns me how many people can't get to 7.5 in a beep.
I’ve started going to the gym and I’ve got a treadmill. Time to start.
Yes mate do it for yourself and then as a bi product for success in your pursuit of living life and career.
Damn, im 29 and currently serving and you've got bigger arms and seem to be fitter than i am.
It's all good mate its about the long haul yeah who are you with brother...
(For obvious reasons)
This is just purely off my and a couple of the boys experiences.
True that lucky the PTI's seem to have to blind eyes at the PFA

Wow that’s really was awesome man I’m gonna give you props for that that tip that you can use for your advantage when running 20 m you’ve taken away 3 to 2 m and therefore you only have 18 m remaining that’s very good bro very resourceful just by getting into that little position, and not behind The line I’m gonna remember that.

Edit: Stuffed up on the time: Damm!!
I am sure the Navy is awesome too mate good luck let me know what you decide.
Mate what a great comment i pissed myself when you said you still can't speak French gold mate, welcome to the channel Phil.
Hey cas I'm applying soon for riflemen and SF as second preference after getting a bit fitter , great vids
Hello sailor this is super well presented. Nice work Cas

Corey Jones look forward to hearing your results and career options mate stay focussed..
They're opening it up to men as well this year
Sabrina Emanouel yeah I found out today it’s wrong to reward those that fail the attitude test by not preparing

In The Trenches With Cas yeah I’m currently at my IET’s and the PT we do here makes me feel dead after and I’m passing my bfa quite easy. Just makes me wonder what being on an exercise or being deployed is like. However I can’t wait to be challenged with it and I’m currently working on my fitness so I can coupe with pt a lot easier.
Thanks brother I'll sure use this when I do my PFA
Right on mate, remember to crush fitness work on scaling fitness to surpass the BFA rather than the PFA..

When you mention attitude, do they actually look at how your reacting to the test? I know that I don’t want a guy who’s bitching and moaning in my unit so do they actually look at that?
Soviet Beverage mate no one ever bitches and whinges during testing they are on their best behaviour trying to get the tick..
I refer to the attitude that you bring for the day it is impossible to be right for the army if you can’t pass the physical as I explained because you have all the time and the tools to succeed, saying that women are still given a special program residential just to get them ready after they fail due to bad attitude it’s a crime and endangers the rest of their team in the future.

Abandon Spartan Gaming i
would like to know some tips too
Simple.. run more
Try running at intervals, 400, 800m a at a pace slightly faster than the BFA & take a 90sec-2:30m break and repeat 3-6times at least
Run until you feel tired and remind yourself it is a perceived limitation. Not an actual limitation. And then you’ll break past
Did 40 push up and 100 sit ups but fell short on beep test but 5, hopefully this will help me on my second attempt
Gotta start somewhere keep at it mate stop your sit ups at 70 and you should do better at the beep got to get out there and get the Km runs up at 50% and 75% etc
very great video thank you
Glad you enjoyed mate it’s a relevant video now and in the future..

Cas, I suffer from GERD. But, for the past year I've been endurance walking/running aroud multiple suburbs daily! I can do 15km in a single go without breaks. I'd really love to join, but I'm not sure if my GERD would be a disqualification.
Boom.. Killer stuff mate..

Ha ha, takes me back to my recruit days.....1989.......training was tough in those days, real tough.
Why is the 2.4km run time lenient on females. Push-ups you can KINDA understand ... but running? yikes
sent off my application form and getting ready for the YOU session,
howd it go?
Good luck tell me how you go.
i don’t understand why for the pfa test, army can do push ups at their own pace but for air force and navy, you have to do it in candace
Brilliant
