Ahhh, I've been waiting for this since I saw it on your Insta coming up on Christmas Eve about 2 months ago. This was my PJ Concert White Whale. They just DID NOT play it live for the first 20 years or so of their career, and then BOOM, my final concert ever (of my life, due to health issues), Stone launched into the opening guitar and the other PJ fan next to me in the crowd looked at me, knew what we were getting, and we literally high fived, two strangers, and just watched in awe as we were getting something SUPER RARE. Alas, though, this is one of the few, VERY VERY few, PJ songs that is better as studio than it is live. For the exit, they go back to the, for lack of better term, Siren section, the "Let's call in an angel" and it's just Mike sirening and Stone going up the power chords. And then it just... kinda falls apart because they don't have an agreed upon end point. It goes on too long, and the voicings go out at different times, but within one measure, so it's sloppy af. Hate to say it. At least that was what the ending was like at the 11/24/13 Sports Arena show in LA.
They did play it three times on the Yield tour in 1998, four more times in 2009, twice in 2010 and once in 2013 and 2014. That's the tally so far. All of those performances are available either through their official bootleg series or unofficial bootlegs.
great review david. been a PJ fanatic for 32yrs now seen tbem 31x. to me, greatest live show on earth. appreciate your amazing insights for my fave band yo. u make me think of things i never thought of with a PJ song. your vast musical knowledge is impressive. no way is such a groovy tune. yes, PJ has played no way many times live & where they would fade, they just kinda end the song. thank u for reviewing so many PJ tunes. enjoy u brother. thank u 🙏🏼🎶🎸
AWESOME PEARL JAM TRACK!! MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU AND YOUR LOVELY WIFE AND TO EVERYONE!! STAY SAFE!! I LOVE PEARL JAM 😊🩷🤘✌️ DECEMBER 23, 2023 WAS EDDIE VEDDER 59TH BIRTHDAY !!
Excellent review. This was such a pinnacle album for me when it came out -- a nice blend of their earlier stuff and the more experimental tones of No Code. Plus, Jack Irons (formerly of RHCP) on the drums, so he always brings the groove! Thanks for the great content. Happy holidays to you and Mrs. Heretic!
My Dad had a copy of Yield and it was the only Pearl Jam album I had access to growing up. Quickly became one of my favorite albums of all time and it feels like one of the most overlooked. Great video Mr. Heretic!
I love this song. It wasn't my favorite at first but it's an ear worm. It's on my Spotify list that I listen to on random at work. This song will catch me every time. Believe this is a Stone song...Thanks for the reaction.
I would say the song Rats might be their grooviest. I do like the way they play this song live better than the studio version. Just some little tweaks with an abrupt ending which fits.
so many better tracks on this album : "brain of J";"faithfull";"do the evolution";"all those yesterdays" are just a few ...."faithfull" been my favorite

Love the idea of the staggered exit for this! Great commentary.
jack irons' magic
I always had the feeling of: Ten + No Code = Yield. Great album, and great reaction David!! As always, big hug from argentina

The bridge was a bit odd but overall a banger
It's the weakest song on Yield but it's a great album overall.
B G B G and the drums hardly change.. not too good. Not hearing the impressive groove you're talking about
