Isn't it the athlete's power(behind home plate)that makes him hit home runs?" I seem to remember that before the questionable homerun, George hit a rather far foul ball and I thought, "He's thinking homerun." I also have memories of Tim McClellan being the umpire as the bearer of bad news to the players in the form of ejecting from games--as George mentioned, Tim was 6'5'; I guess that was rather convenient in a way!

I’m a Lifelong New York fan but I feel Brent was unfairly robbed of that home run. Billy Martin while being a great manager is what he is and will go far to win and I’m not surprised.

When Brett was in the minor leagues there was a young trainer who knew for certain Brett would make the Hall of Fame. It was that obvious.

    Then Lee MacPhail intervened,
an eventually overruled McClellans’s decision and ordered the game to be resumed from the point after Brett had homered. On Aug. 18, the teams reconvened at Yankee Stadium, and about 1,200 fans watched as Martin symbolically protested by putting pitcher Ron Guidry in center field and moving left-handed first baseman Don Mattingly to second base.
Martin then protested the game - before the first pitch to the Royals' Hal McRae - on the grounds that Brett did not touch all the bases during his home run and that the current umpiring crew could not verify this. But umpire Davey Phillips produced an affidavit signed by the July 24 umpires stating that Brett had indeed touched all bases. An irate Martin was quickly ejected from the game for arguing.
Yankees reliever George Frazier struck out McRae to end the top of the ninth, and Royals reliever Dan Quisenberry pitched a perfect bottom of the ninth to preserve Kansas City's 5-4 win.

Kind of funny to think that pine tar use was limited back in the olden days because they didn't want that stuff to get on baseballs, and now every pitcher uses pine tar or other sticky substances.

  • @bobbg9041

Here is the thing with that team durring that time they were playing ball to have fun, small ball, George taught this to the royals not to many years ago and we made it back to the world series a second run.
When teams compeat with money its not fair to smaller clubs but smaller clubs can win with a different strategy.
Ever see the movie money ball
This is why you have teams like the Yankees with how many world series titles? They were bought. Money paid for them. One teams buys all the best players everyone else's scrambles for scraps.
