This video has brought reverence in me for swastik. I used to draw it just for the sake of drawing but after watching this video my respect has been increased for our culture.
At the age of 54 I learnt the true meaning of swastika. I wish I was taught this when I was in the school. Thanks a lot Amol bhaiya.
Even I think so… we should take steps and go ahead with this knowledge in our schools and colleges
Our culture is so enriching and scientific. Thanks Bhaiya for taking out time and explaining us about our own culture with so simplicity 😇
Wow this was such an insightful video about swastik symbol, Thank you so much ☺️ can you also tell us in Indian tradition why do we do tilak during religious ceremony or while welcoming guest ? What is the significance behind doing tilak on the forehead ? And why do pandits do tilak on hand instead of forehead to widows ?
Dear Pinkal,
Firstly, applying tilak on the forehead is symbolic of giving respect. Secondly, we have pituitary glands between our two eyebrows, and when we apply Chandan, tilak or bindi, our pituitary glands get activated. By doing so, we become aware & we tend to not make mistakes when we are aware, emotionally balanced (our logical & emotional aspects of the mind are balanced).
Considering the tradition of widows not applying bindi/tilak on their forehead, we cannot judge an entire past era sitting in this present era. We need to understand the psychology of ancient days, where people wanted a way to recognise a lady who has lost her husband, so that they knowingly or unknowingly shouldn’t ill-treat her. It is just a way of identifying a person who has no life partner (that’s why they don’t put bindi), but it is not a compulsion or it isn’t written anywhere in scriptures or in our culture that a ‘widow’ cannot apply bindi on her forehead. Wearing a red (bindi or tilak) is a symbol of a married women. So, a widow can use any coloured bindi, other than red. Chandan is a better alternative.
