Historically after tommy Jones mlb pitcher and qb need yr 2 or 3 but ultimately return with more zip and speed than ever due to focusing on building up strength in it. Just takes a yr to mentally and physically trust the elbows.

what’s interesting about that colts game is that ben started calling his own plays in the 2nd half, which is probably why the offense looked so much different
I think people are seriously underestimating how bad of a Coordinator Fichtner was. His system was easily the biggest problem. When Ben played his style of football he looked good last season.
@@sonicchaos23 yeah during the colts game, it showed the CLEAR DIFFERENCE between Randy Fichtner (1st half Steelers offense) and Big Ben Ulithi Matt Canada wrapped around his finger (2nd half Steelers offense) Matt Canada knows how to run a system and is very creative, while fichtner is anything but that
*with -Ulithi-
@@sonicchaos23 randy Fichter was by far the worst OC in the NFL last season. Any other OC would have seen these problems and adjusted. How he lasted the whole season was just incredible

GREAT AS USUAL. Could you a video on the 2015 panthers and what made them great that season
Top 5 defense, Top 10 overall offense, Top 5 rushing offense, Top 5 in points scored and Top 5 in points allowed per game. Also they had Cam Newton. Nothing else to see
@@yaahlabanyamyan144 bruh everyone knows that I’m asking why they had all those stats and plays/schemes they ran tf

Thanks Jackson! That's a great idea, I'll put it on the list
@@AlexRollinsNFL thanks I love your throwback videos
Two words. Randy fichtner. If you know you know.
Literally killed us all year. Matt Canada called the game fir the second half of the colts game
@@carsonrhoads2842 It was a combination of Ben and Canada. You could see Ben calling the plays in the huddle
@@supergrover1746 But when Ben did it...the offense was looking better
@@carsonrhoads2842 I've never heard Canada's named mentioned with that. Ben and his WR's said they were just basically drawing up plays in the dirt.
I recall seeing a lot of WR screens.
Yep! I only briefly mentioned it, but they ran the most screens in the league
@@AlexRollinsNFL glad I'm not alone 🤣
Bengals fan here so I hate the steelers but Ben is the best broken play, extended play qb I have ever seen.
Love your vids my dude. Only a matter of time before you’re in a front office (assuming that’s something you want)
Thanks JB! I'm living my dream making these, but I definitely have goals I haven't reached yet. Just gotta keep grinding!
The big takeaway I think it the offensive coordinator was absolutely terrible. That’s why In the 2nd half vs the colts, Ben was calling the plays and they looked unstoppable. Next year with a revamped line and a stud rb, the Steelers will win 10-11 games
I missed that nugget, that's significant!
There's no way around this: Big Ben is probably just old and the injury basically killed his ability. The Steelers probably refused to dial up longer plays because Ben couldn't do those in practices and they were terrified he might get injured again.
It's a sad thing that the defense will probably stay good and keep them juuuuuust in the Wild Cards next year, so they still don't fire their QB. And stay mediocre 2022.
Stay mediocre? Umm we’re only mediocre when we’re injured. Besides, in 2022, we’re gonna have all the cap space in the world next year, even after paying TJ Watt
@@Leeedy_1 Did you watch the video? Also who exactly was injured against the Browns in the Wild Cards?
@@asmahasmalaria8596 the thing is, you sat here and said that we will “stay mediocre in 2022” when we’re not only coming off a season to while we did go one and done, calling 2020 a mediocre season for us is ignorant, but regardless of what happens in 2021, we will be in perfect shape to build a super team
@@asmahasmalaria8596 *to build a super team in the 2022 offseason
@@Leeedy_1 yeah as I've said, it would be sad if you wouldn't, but seeing how the team is managed, I'll predict Big Ben to at least be there until 2023.
9:58 because Ben finally had control with what he wanted to do Our offensive coordinator, who was fired at the end of the year, made the predictable offense. If Ben next year “turns back the clock” and plays like he normally does, he wouldn’t be the problem.
Guess the Steelers really were afraid of his elbow injury popping up again. Elbow UCL tears are no joke, Ben’s beyond lucky to be back in pads honestly
awesome video alex, as always. as a Pittsburgh fan you made me see what happened during the season that cause our decline and that our defense was basically playing alone lol 😂
Thanks as always Jorge! I'm glad you liked it, I never try to be too malicious, just honest. I wish I had done a video on them during last year even when they were putting up points, it was pretty evident when reviewing the film that it wouldn't last.

Thanks for this delightful breakdown! I'm very much interested to see how the Steelers offense will look in 2021. I don't expect them to win the SB or anything but they have an exeptional defense and an offense with huge potential. Maybe we will get a few iconic Big Ben moments again next season. That'd be lit🔥
Thanks my man, as always! Their new OC is known for running a lot and playing under center more with PA, it'll be really, really interesting to what their offense looks like
Every time I watch these it gets me so hyped. Football is the greatest sport ever invented. I love it. Another great video! I like watching Skip and Shannon as much as the next man but it’s the details of the game and in depth analysis that really makes it so interesting.
Thank you!
The Steelers biggest problems last year were:
Ben's surgically reconstructed throwing arm/elbow which they tried to protect later in the season. He may have partially re-injured what what had been repaired.
Loss of key defensive players down the stretch led to them not being able to get off the field to protect the offence.
One of the worst Steelers O-lines I've ever seen. They couldn't run block at all or pass block for more than 3 seconds. Pouncey and De Castro were clearly done, and defences figured out how to beat Villanueva.
Schedule disruptions due to Covid-19 and no real off-week.
Too many cooks in the kitchen and not enough focus.
As a Steelers fan I agree with everything you said. And speaking of Villanueva, he was a guy that I never liked. Even in his prime, I always found him the weakest of our what was a great offensive line.
2:00 when she say you can come over but it’s that time of the month
A large part of it is having 38 year old Ben Roethlisberger throw 50-60 times a game, and having no running game.
Believe me, as a Packer’s fan who shudders every time I think of 2011, not having a running game, will screw you over bad.
Love the videos
Thanks brother!
I know multiple Steelers fans who spent the 2000's and 2010's saying, "All Tom Brady does is thow quick and short passes. Anyone can do that and be successful."
Those same people have to eat their words as we watch Big Ben flounder trying the same thing while Brady won the super bowl with the former Steelers OC.
As Jay Z said "I heard mofos saying they made Hov, Made Hov say Okay so make another Hov"
Never gonna be another Brady

Im just saying analysts in general not this guy
Hay Alex can you do a video of what changed after the bye week for the Tampa Bay Bucs offense
I went back and watched Super Bowl 43 recently, and it's pretty remarkable to see the swagger of the old Big Ben. He used to pocket waltz through defenders trying to take his head off. Great that he has a new offensive coordinator now. The Steelers have a really rough schedule though, and David DeCastro was just released. They're gonna have to figure something out so that Ben doesn't get popped and dropped every snap. I still think they should have done something else than get a new running back as their first round pick.
Well David decastro showed how washed up he was last year and he’s been very injury prone the last 2 years so it’s not as surprising as people think that we cut him. Besides, the RB’s on our roster are ok, but they’re definitely unproven so that area did need to be addressed, too while we also drafted 2 o-lineman later in the draft that many people forget about
Yeah, or just any of his old highlights.. it's striking. Dude can legit run and now he waddles around

The fact of the matter is, the Steelers need to start looking into the 2022 draft QBs now because even with Najee Harris and a full offseason for their receivers, their offense won’t be significantly better due to Big Ben’s age.
Don't forget about their O Line
Ben is not the proble, the problem was Randy Fichtner (OC) but now he is gone and Matt Canada is the new OC, so, the offense is goin to get better.
@@falconhoward4032 the O Line has never looked better since 2017 also alot younger the line doesnt even have 30yr olds

Great breakdown on the steelers offense
Thanks again Ed!
Do you think you could do a film breakdown on the 2015 Broncos defense and what made it a top 10 unit all time?
Amazing video. Glad you pointed out the issue with the OC and didn't just blame it on Ben. I don't think Ben is as bad as everyone is making him out to be. Hopefully they let him play more aggressive next season.
Thanks man! Yeah, I think it's all intertwined. You could argue that the OC Ficthner identified this issue and designed the offense a little too narrowly to accommodate Ben. Obviously, Steeler fans had issues with Fichnter already anyways
a steelers rebuild in madden 22 finna be epic
All those slices of pie, Big Ben ate
Could you make a vid about Tee Higgins or Tyler Boyd
Great video! Finally somebody took the time to analyze the offense instead of just calling Ben washed & done. So many people are writing the Steelers off right now but I'm pretty sure Ben has still something left in the tank.
Thanks brother! There was moments where Ben legit looked like his old self with some of the throws he made, but then others where he threw moon balls down the sideline where you're like ..?
I agree for the most part. I will say Ben has been a quick release guy for like 5 years now but he was at least still aggressive before. He barely played 2019 but He was fastest 2018, I think he was 7th or 8th 2017, and middle of the pack 2016. He has been getting rid of the ball quick for a while now. The line falling apart and zero running game consequently I think has a lot more to do with it then Ben's play style being different which I know you addressed. Hopefully with a the majority of the pieces being different next year it will look better. Gotta believe in Matt to make something less predictable
You're 100% right! I was surprised to see he was top ~10 in release in those years you mentioned. But 2.11 like it was this year is a pretty shocking difference. I hope it's not cause he doesn't want to get hit, cause that would be a major issue
As a Steelers fan, there’s no denying that Ben played poorly towards the end of the season. There’s definitely lots of reasons for concern for the upcoming season, but Ben had to learn a new throwing motion due to his injury. Combine that with an incapable OC and a mid season knee injury that destroyed his lower mechanics, it’s definitely understandable. I believe Ben could be able to lead a winning team with a good running game and a new OC
It was not Ben. It was the o-line. No time to throw more than short passes. It was not technique or assignment issue it was just an issue of getting over-powered and pocket compressing quick. I think o-line was main issue (why we can’t run either), and not sure enough was done to address the issues. I think Ben has a couple years left in the tank but it won’t matter if line doesn’t get a lot better.
Great Again. I watched the Steelers often last year and though I'm no expert, I thought they looked one dimensional, even as they kept winning. Until they didn't. Watching this makes me think that, just by adding a few more plays, the Steelers will be more competitive this year than I thought before. I think the key will be their O-line and their rookie RB. I still think the Browns have the most talent and Ravens are better than the Steelers, but given the potential the Steelers still have, they could easily make the playoffs.
That and they were predictable as well always passed out of the gun and always ran from under center and rarely threw it down field poor play calling / design
@@Mattmusic11111111 It was so painful watching them try to jam in play action under center too.. they did it like once in the first series of a few games and it didn't work, then just stopped for the rest of the game
Remember the pistol formation the Bronco's put Payton in? He said he felt more comfortable there and the OC went with it. When your QB gets older you may want to change things to protect them, but in the end they need to feel comfortable. That pistol set up makes the play action even more difficult to read. I wonder why no body ever copied that championship winning old man formation?
The Steelers actually used Pistol here and there this past season. It's more of a comfortability thing, so if Ben likes it maybe they'll use it more. Ben is pretty particular with what he likes, so we'll see if they use it more
Let’s just say there’s a reason why Randy Fichtner doesn’t have a job still. Hopefully the O-line isn’t abysmal.
if theres enough content for a mike lafleur video itd be bigg
thank you for this. matt canada will be the difference for pittsburgh in 2021
That offensive was the same the entire year. Our Defense fell apart and our offense depended heavily on the defense
steelers collasped faster then juju’s dancing

1 person. Randy Fichner.
"Is Ben Roethlisberger the reason the Steelers offense crumbled?" Yes, and yes. The PIT-KC game was the only sure bet in this years' playoffs. Big Ben's set up to throw until releasing the ball took circa a lifetime (I first realized this in the reg. season game against KC), the velocity must have been below zero. There are not that many opportunities to have a relative safe bet in the super efficient NFL betting market... I dont know what happened to the arm of Roethlisberger, but it looked more dead than McMahon's arm when he threw knuckleballs whith his nerves damaged and the neck broken (and only God knows what else)... Big Ben should have been benched, as bad as it sounds.
I wanted to come back to this video about a year later and into the next season with Mitch. Matt Canada is the problem cause it's a completely different QB who's more mobile and the play calling is still horrendous. When Ben did the hurry up they looked good. So far Mitch has only done the hurry up offense on one drive and he looked good doing it. Matt Canada is calling too many short routes and dump offs with wr's open down field. It's disappointing.
You should make a video on how chucky won't get rid of Carr.. yet every off season the experts claim he will. What I mean is show why Carr runs the offense so efficiently and how Gruden will have a hard time replacing him.. thanks.
I made a video last offseason on why Chucky might get rid of him. I was wrong 😂
@@AlexRollinsNFL no way? Well I definitely wasn't referring to you. At least you can break film down. Most people on Epsn who they claim are football experts are really only people experts.
Love your content! Are we related, btw?
Yes. Hey
It's because that line wasn't blocking correctly and the offense became very predictable
Simple: they passed it too much, and they only used about 3-5 route combinations which made it easy for the defense to predict what was coming next. Other pass-heavy teams like the Chiefs have great pass protection, something that the Steelers lack, and yet they still resort to throwing it 40 to 50 times per game. Their inability to throw it deep also limited their offense greatly. In short, they were one-dimensional, and they weren't even good at the one thing they could do best.

Ima true BROWNS fan but I respect The steelers jus because of the Strength of their team each and every year jus gotta respect that.
DAWGPOUND NATION
Steelers-Browns-Ravens will be MUST SEE tv for the next 5+ years
I think it was pretty obvious they were trying to get Ben to the playoffs healthy and with a struggling offensive line that was gonna require discipline in getting rid of the ball NO MATTER WHAT. It was a conscious decision from week 1. Give the Browns some credit, they played very well and beat the Steelers in the playoffs. Then they gave Kansas City everything they could handle. I do not understand why there is shame in going 12 and 4 and losing to what everyone says is a contender in the playoffs.
Great points Beardy, imo it's more the drastic change in very good offense, to subpar offense. And the fact they were built on some unsustainable qualities
I love Ben but he's got to go. Not because of this specific video, but we just won't go anywhere with Ben at QB. We absolutely need to move on to a young QB
So basically Ben is the issue with the offense and we need to move on immediately. Man, I hope Ben sucks it up and lets Canada run the offense through Naji to open up the pass.
Please dont tell me you that stupid and a Steeler fan because if so then your a CASUAL Bandwagoner
All I saw was Ben is really accurate

Their offense is going to be even worse this year with that O Line
Why? Show me highlights of the 2021 season that prove you're right.
Bad take, It was went Ben it was the OL everyone knows the Steelers OL last year was far from what it has been so the Steelers offense changed so ben didn’t have the time to throw the ball not that he couldn’t do it. Loved the second half of the video though

My question is, are they gonna be so bad this year that they can draft a good QB next year?
Hopefully!!

So yeah, worst OC caused terrible end of season. When good things did happen, Ben made them happen. No run game, in fact worst run game in the NFL for the last 30 plus years bad, and banged up defense. All is not lost.
I have one thing to say to all who say Big Ben's washed up lost 4 of his last 5 ,play 4 NFL games in less than 3 wks and tell me how you make out that goes for ex player and you other talking heads, when Ben ran the offense they either one or ran out of time making a come back .
Ur intro is good but it’s kind of getting repetitive imo, maybe try changing it up? Just an idea, great video as always.
To All You Media Clowns that hate on Big Ben, please read this: it's his ACTUAL career resume.
- Since the Steelers hired him 18 years ago, they've had ZERO losing seasons (the Steelers had 3 losing seasons the prior 6 years before his arrival, so don't claim "the Steelers are always good". No. The reality is they were losers for awhile before Ben arrived, but Ben's style keeps teams in ballgames via backyard-football ad-libs that coaching and player talent struggle to account for. This is the same guy that took Miami of Freiken Ohio to end the season in ranked Top-10 in the country in 2003 before going pro. A school that hasn't even been ranked since he left and hadn't been ranked for over 20 years prior to his arrival! He has a knack for winning football games consistently no matter who is the coach or what level of play he's at. I don't know about you, but "usually winning the game" is up there in quarterback statistics I value.
- That 18 year run of ALWAYS having the Steelers at least in the hunt, has included 11 playoff runs, 5 conference championship games, 3 Super Bowls, and 2 Lombardis...including the most epic touchdown pass (and catch) in Super Bowl history. In fact, he's 1 playoff win away from a tie for 3rd all time, and a Super Bowl run would tie him with Montana at 16 playoff wins behind only Tom Brady. Why don't you portray him in a way that reflects how much success he's had?
- He can pass Marino for 5th in all-time yardage this year. He can pass Brees for 4th on the all-time wins list. Own it. Own his level of greatness. Own the company he's in if you're portraying him honestly.
- His A-game is as epic as ANY quarterback in history. That's not my opinion. That's a statistical face. He has the most 500 yard games in history. He's also tied with Peyton Manning for the most perfect passer rating games in league history so it's quantity AND quality A-game stats. The man threw 6TD's in BACK TO BACK GAMES. No other quarterback in NFL freiken history has ever done that! Ben's A-game has been otherwordly, at the level of Brady, Rodgers, Montana, Mahomes, ANY quarterback you name. Again, ignore your "opinion" and acknowledge these statistical facts.
- Even NOW, you clowns can't shut up after he JUST GAVE YOU the AFC North crown over media darlings like Lamar Jackson and Baker Mayfield. He gave you an 11-0 start that put him top-5 in Vegas MVP odds 3/4ths of the way through LAST SEASON, off 5-tendon surgery in his throwing elbow at age 38. You pricks, you. Listen to yourselves.
- Even the playoff game (which required making the playoffs- something most quarterbacks fail to do each year), saw him throw for over 500 effing yards and four touchdowns. Yes, he threw too many picks that game, but the defense played like swiss cheese, he had no running back worth a damn, and his offensive live was in tatters. And he STILL damn near got them back in that game until Tomlin (inexplicably) punted on a 4th and 1 midfield on a drive that could have gotten the Steelers within 1 score with 10 minutes to go. Ben did his job to atone for his mistakes and get us back in the game, and Tomlin made a poor coaching decision.
I mean for god sakes. What does Ben Roethlisberger have to do to get media respect? OH I KNOW! He has to win popularity contests like MVP's and All-Pro awards. A lack of popularity the media has always maximized on Ben.
I get why. We all do. Ben was accused of sexual assault when he was younger. But the thing is, not only wasn't he convicted, he wasn't even charged. This is a country of innocent until proven guilty for a reason, and I'm going to respect that principle with regard to Ben, and also acknowledge the man he's become over the last decade which appears to be a much better man regardless of what actually happened. We all know that has fueled the media blackout on Ben's greatness. But don't forget, these same media clowns acted like Ben/AB feud was "50-50 to blame" until time proved AB to be clinically insane, and now Ben looks like a magician for dealing with AB for nearly a decade. I'm not going to pretend I know his early allegations for the same reason- I have no idea what the reality was.
But one thing is for sure...Ben Roethlisberger has proven himself as an all-time great QB. The evidence is overwhelmingly supportive of that reality. Human voting awards are the ONLY THING that Ben is not "elite" at. And that makes me love the guy even more!
Think I'll take a knee LOL

Oh trust me I watched it, it was absolutely attrocious
Big Ben is also not a good pre snap QB and he never really tried to correct this. His problems with his OCs over the years led to his absurd low number of video sessions and I doubt he does it at home.
Before I watch the video, I can’t stress enough how bad am OC Randy Fichtner was.
I think a lot of the quick release was Fichtner trying to substitute the short passing game for the run game.
All those flaws in 2020 and they still made the playoffs. Tomlin is a HOF worthy coach. Belicheck missed the postseason with a better roster. Nevertheless 2021 Steelers : 5 - 12

When you are top five in passing attempt and bottom five in rushing attempt. You will fail
Only running 8-9 yards a game, it’s hard to win every game lol
Randy Fitctner is the worst OC in the league by far, bc the offense had talent, happy that he is gone, now, i am excited to see Matt Canada Offense.
I mean literally they went 12-4 w out a running back so i think they are ok. Its sad when people make careers off of bashing others.
Man, shouldn't they let you at least be a coaching assistant?
They would've missed the playoffs if I was coaching for them!! 😂

It's hard to admit but we crashed and burned because we were not a good football team anymore. I'm not gonna make excuses about our Offensive Coordinator, Run Game, Defensive Injuries, Wide Receivers not Catching Balls, a Quarterback who's missing throws, a torn up and aged offensive line, other teams horrible COVID habits or the fact that we had no middle linebackers towards the end of the year except for a backup Strong Safety. The point I'm getting at is I expect my team to go out there and play through adversity anyways like they did in 2005 and won a super bowl, like they did in 2008 and won another one and like they did in 2010 and made it to the super bowl. I thought for sure this was gonna be another case of fighting through adversity but we just absolutely sucked. Plain and simple, point blank absolutely SUCKED. Just because we sucked then is no sign we'll suck this year and I'm optimistic but you have to be. Who goes into a season not optimistic? No-one. I'm gonna be cautiously optimistic however just in case. Pittsburgh's my team win, lose or draw. Here we go Pittsburgh, let's go get number 7. #Herewegosteelers
I love it Chad! I certainly agree, and they're still one of the most talented overall rosters in the league. The receivers and Ben looked more and more frustrated as the season progressed, I think the receiver corps is seriously underrated
