      That's what social media is for. Everyone thinks that they're independent in thought. But what does everyone do on social media? Insult everyone whose takes are different than their own. No one even asks for proof.
      For instance the Eagles just went from being True Contenders to a laughing stock with almost the same roster due 100% to play-calling. Do you know _why_ no one seems to fully acknowledge this? Because everyone wants retain the take that only QB play affects outcomes.
      Even on channels such as these you'll rarely hear people *in the comments section* openly criticize any HC. Those are Authority Figures. If the OC & DC were to blame, how does one point the finger at them without including the HC who should be responsible for them?
      People can't. So they won't even blame someone HC-adjacent.
      Normally I wouldn't care except that's at least something this channel & a few others at least do _sometimes._ & it feels a little insulting to sort of half-indicate that it isn't appreciated. & opinions are generally harmless until they lead to actions.
      For instance it doesn't matter how many people still think Lamar is a glorified RB. They tried to replace him & make him look less important than he is & failed.
      But what about Justin Fields? Getsy instituted the designed QB rushes twice, once in '22, the other time mid-'23 when Eberflus was presumably busy acclimating the new DC & Montez Sweat to the defense. (Eberflus has said repeatedly that He Decides what plays to limit the offense to & his o-line play-calls are similar to another micro-managing HC, Frank Reich).
      The first time, Fields made the Bears the #1 offense 3 weeks straight with no o-line or receiving corps. The Bears lose all 3 games & because the public doesn't want to implicate the HC they cite this as proof that Fields can't win. They order him not to throw to certain receivers on certain plays. This results in drives ending when those plays are called.
      So they say "they had to do this to simplify the offense for Fields." So it's His Fault that his coaches made a decision that led to disastrous drive-ending plays for _over a year?_ Again, wouldn't care if this was only opinion.
      But NFL coaches & GMs are not immune to such trash talk. Matt Canada was chanted to the unemployment office. Now perhaps because of fan retribution, NFL teams think that a guy who produced more offense without on-field talent than Allen Mahomes & Burrow who has a WR _trio_ isn't worth a 4th-round pick.
      Funny world, eh? I haven't yet seen a single thing Caleb has done in college that Fields hasn't done better in the NFL. No one refutes this. They just cleat out whatever meme they last heard & defend it. Caleb can do things _Goff_ can't do & Fields can do everything Caleb can.
      It makes no sense.

      An injury or 2 to our offensive line would derail the entire season. Right now we stand to fill-in with Sorsdal and Awosika's of the world when (not if), those injuries happen. Even the most ardent of Goff supporters (I'm one of them), admit that he's wholly dependent on the system around him for him to function optimally, and that system starts with a top 5 O-line in front of him to keep him clean. If we don't have that, he's in panic mode, and the shit show starts.

    Reeder is the key. If he can eat up double teams on early downs, the Lions should have the DLine rotation to rush the passer on 3rd down. They have to have improved at CB with Davis, Robertson, Arnold, and Rakestraw. Emmanual is a wildcard but if he can come back after the ACL injuries he will be a big help with 5 CB in rotation. Add in Branch as a safety to cover tight ends and backs. The Lions have better defensive players this season. If they can blend into a cohesive unit, it will be a big upgrade.

    You're being nice about the defense. Lions pass defense was extremely subpar and we definitely couldn't stop a mobile QBs. We were entirely saved by Hutch and Branch making clutch plays from time to time. Lamar tore us up and it didn't have much to do with Jerry Jacobs missing, to be honest. Both Jerry Jacobs and Will Harris aren't on the team anymore and that should say enough. Wish them the best but we needed to part ways.
    I do hope DJ Reader is an answer. Problem is, we were great in run downs already. Our problem was 3rd and long plays where we needed to get to the QB. I believe Anzalone said in a recent interview that we were last in the league. We'll see if he is enough.

    What gets me is James Houston put together the highest rookie sack per game in maybe NFL history as a pass-rushing DE, and he's suddenly seen as the problem?
    Mathieu Betts comes over at OLB as the current CFL MVP with 18 sacks, and a great option as a pass rush specialist and this is going to be the problem on this team? Betts and Houston are excellent pass-rush specialists.
    Mekhi Wingo and DJ Reader on the inside are already big upgrades, allowing you to play John Cominsky and Josh Paschal exclusively on rushing downs. At corner, Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw are not even projected to start right away, you got new starting corners in Carlton Davis and Amik Robertson to go along with Joseph and Melifonwu.
    Team is starting to take shape! I'd like to see some James Houston and Brodric Martin and Mekhi Wingo just eating up defenders. Carlton and Arnold making it a no-fly zone. Much improved.

    I think that DE CLIFF AVRIL getting to the ball carrier first, NG SHAUN ROGERS was Excellent. LB DeANDRE LEVY & FS LOUIS DELMAS being able to run really well, and that one DT ANTONIO BENNETT that signed x15 times in x8 years. But WR JOHNNIE MORTON JR was rode outta town & WR GERMAINE CROWELL lost his sea legs. And our best player was able to walk after he died on the field in his rookie year. My favorite player by the way he played: LB REGGIE BROWN. LB CHRIS CLAIBORNE LB BOSS BAILEY LB TEDDY LEHMAN LB Colorado 2nd rounder LB ERNIE SIMS... THEY ALL PLAYED TOO MUCH AS ROOKIES AND BURNTOUT

    Would love to see a video of Ennis R. From what I am seeing I feel he would be a great safety. I’d love for the Lions to pick up Justin Simmons on a 1-2yr deal and have these guys learn from him and Davis this year. Keep Ennis as a back up CB and start his learning/transition to safety. Make Branch for of a CB or Slot CB. But ultimately value wise would probably be best to develop him at CB.

    The reason I think they didn’t draft or bring in another Edge is because they believe in Paschal. He was the 46th pick who they drafted knowing he was gone come on slow because of the injury. Brad Holmes has shown he’s willing to let guys bet on themselves. This is the make or break year for Paschal not like he’ll be off the team but they’ll know if he’s a starter or just a rotational guy. DJ Reader signing here helps everyone because you can’t double as much as teams did. Teams have to double Reader then you pick your poison with Hutch or Alim. With the new dline coach Williams this line is going to get real. I think the drafting of Wingo is for Levi O and to see with a healthy camp what he’s gone do.

    Coach, I agree with being able to shave 3 points a game. That’s enough for a 1 seed without regression on offense. I agree with everyone else, 2014 was great, the rest suck. They had some players in the early 90’s (Crockett, Blades, Spielman, Porcher,Ball) but never a great D.

    Problem I have is all the "smartest man in the room" moves; signing Davenport, Betts, drafting the 2 project kids using high picks and giving up future high picks to boot... and the constant "we like our guys" drumbeat that BH plays to, is just ridiculous. It's like you've got the keys to the car, the engine and the frame, just need to get the wheels on the road and you'll cross the finish line first, but he insists on trying to get to that finish line with 2 or 3 wheels only instead of all 4, all because of the chip-on-the-shoulder mentality of "I'll show you!" and "I have receipts!" It's bonkers.

    • @all_22_films
      @all_22_films  Před 21 dnem +1

      Interesting. I had not thought of it that way, perhaps because the different approaches of the two front offices I try to pay attention to. The Ravens and the Lions. In the Ravens case, they generally just sit and take BPA, with very little effort to ever trade up. Whereas the Lions seem to be trading up for specific players at least in 2024. The difference in approach is striking. I know your comments enough to recognize that they have validity. So it's interesting to me to hear the different opinion on what the Lions did in this Draft. Certainly a stark comparison to the Ravens.

    • @Bluebloods7
      @Bluebloods7 Před 21 dnem

      @@all_22_films I know it's super pessimistic and callous of a "regular dude" to call out these moves, but I respect the HELL out of what Holmes and Co. have done, especially with the draft, but it's infuriating to see all the fluff, like the moves/draft picks mentioned above, on top of the Hooker and Martin picks last year. These are 3rd round picks, they could've been/should've been used on players to help this team win last year and now, not "projects" (as Holmes himself admits they are), that even if ALL the stars align and the BEST case scenario comes to fruition, these guys are borderline NFL starters or backups, 2... 3, 4 years from now. It's asinine.

    • @Bluebloods7
      @Bluebloods7 Před 21 dnem

      I should add; I hope to hell I'm 100% wrong and off-base with my perception of these moves I took issue with and they still run it back to the playoffs again and finish the job this year, but holy crap did a lot of teams get a whole lot better (at least on paper), after the draft and FA this offseason, particularly in the NFC. It ain't gonna be easy.

    The defense seems like it has a very narrow chance to be very good. But other than Hutch, the playmakers needed to elevate the defense all have a concerning injury history. Some or many of these guys are going to miss multiple games. Davis III has never played a whole season and missed 5 games last year. Reader has only played one full season. Davenport also never played a whole season and made it to 4 last year. Houston, major injury last year and might never be the same. Same goes for Mosley. Iffy’s longest stretch is 5 games. Heck even Alim missed 4 games last year.
    I know dudes get injured. But the lack of depth at positions with injury prone starters is probably why being an average defense would be a realistic goal for 2024.

I can't see even the most ridiculous "Bench Goff for Hooker" Lions fans saying Hutch has been a disappointment. Dude had 11.5 sacks, and over 100 QB pressures, second only to Micah Parsons last year, if memory serves. I can only hope that Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw, and the rest of this draft class, show similar levels of disappointment.

    Caldwell came in under Mayhew the very next year and added and modified it. Cleaned up the disciplinary issues and turned it into a monster.
