I agree, besides, the trigger causing the blade to stop May snapped the blade and make it even more dangerous since the blades can blown into your faceđ
In the USA currently unless your saw is a saw stop it almost certainly does not. New legislation may change that... and completely kill the low end saw market. But that has not happened yet.
A small electric current is passed through the saw. Should your hand come it I contact with it, some of that current will be used and this will be detected by the system. The saw will then retract into the table extremely quickly and a stopper will be launched into the saw blade to stop it.
For anyone questioning why this certain mechanical saw would be able to detect electricity flowing through our skin, our body is basically a huge conductor of electricity. It contains electricity, it flows through our body like a battery, and that's what makes our nervous system run. So yeah that's pretty much it.
It's because the saw has an electric current flowing through the blade. Being conductive means electricity can flow through us, that's how the saw stops. Yes our body does make electricity but it's such a small amount.
â@@ahmadswalihcksort of, it works because your finger conducts electricity. Simply the screen detects a lack of electricity just like the saw because a small current flows on the screen and when you touch it that current wants to go up your finger.
Actually the saw blade drops down and then stops, it's called SawStop Because the saw moves at such a high speed it has this piece that absorbs the energy, it has to be replaced every time you use it which is about 60-80$ and it can sometimes damage the saw blade which is at minimum 80$ and if it is a specialised blade can cost anywhere up to 210, I would say 90-120 is the average, closer to 120-150 if it is on a bandsaw or has a double blade
the emergency brakes are also one-use only and SUPER expensive to replace, so don't be running your hands through willy-nilly. Exercise caution, it's still a sharp object.
You forgot the fact that there is a small electrical current flowing through the blade, since wood doesn't conduct electricity, this allows it to touch the blade, but when your hand (which can conduct electricity) touches the blade, it shoves the blade back in the table.
@@RinaemulisaDengaNemakundani It does, I really don't know why someone would say he forgot and write a paragraph when only the last sentence is what he failed to mention.
There is a video of a girl who was working on a spinning wood piece, and it got stuck so she used more force and it threw her hand into the saw blade at pretty high speeds, yet she only received a cut equivalent to maybe a slice on cardboard. Something that would heal in a week and a half's time. It's quite incredible how fast and reliable these things work
It's called a saw stop, and they are good for educational places, but they can be touchy. If the wood has a high moisture content, it will trigger the saw stop. Best thing to do is always act like there is no safety and proceed with caution. Newer saw stops have gotten better about moisture in wood which is good. Lots of people have kept their fingers thanks to them. If your saw stop activates, it needs to be replaced, and the blade should be replaced as well. Even if the blade looks undamaged.
I worked at a warehouse that cut wood for big fences. The head guy of the warehouse had cut himself years before I had joined the crew. He was missing a finger and half of another. The table saw blade was dull and it had pulled him into the saw. Cutting his finger and half of the other. Important to always change the blades when needed
Another reason to not do this on purpose: it breaks the saw and depending on the type, the stopping mechanism, if you set it off. All saw stopping mechanisms like these have a high chance of damaging the saw blade. Some saw stopping mechanisms rely on an explosive charge that basically breaks the whole thing and drops the blade down into the table, and can only go off once, then you'd have to open the whole thing up and fix everything and replace the charge if you want to get it back up and working with the saw stop. The kind in this video uses a block of aluminum and a spring, which is resettable, but not necessarily as reliable as the explosive charge one, due to the fact that it's relying on an aluminum block to stop a speeding saw, and doesn't drop the saw down into the table.
@@luukthepcgamer7841 even the type shown in this video has a high chance of damaging the saw blade. It's basically throwing a block of metal into the teeth of the blade at ridiculously fast speeds.
Even if this doesn't happen, it can. Zack tells you to not try it because not all table saws are like that. He said "some modern saws" old saws may not be like this and it may cut your finger either way. You should *not* try this even with modern saws because it can still cut part of your finger, likely damaging it forever and may cause high infection without treatment.
How it actually works is that the blade has a continuous electrical current. Your hand touching it basically completes the circut and the saw is dropped.
@@ICARUS_172 the water in wet wood can sometimes trigger the electrical current and cause the saw to stop. However, depending on what kind of saw it is, you can adjust the sensitivity of the detection system as needed, for different materials. You should be using dry wood anyways just to be safe, otherwise you could end up having to pay a pretty penny to replace the saw blade and stopper in case of a misfire.

The students all thought the teacher cut off their finger đ
As someone who has seen this happen, the blade does stop, but the safety cartridge will break, and you will have to buy another one, although slightly expensive, itâs a much better deal than having a couple of fingers missing.
@@Lousy-Looterthereâs a reusable system called PCS by felder which uses magnets to retract the blade so it wonât damage it. Itâs 10x the cost of a sawstop tho

The circular saw must stop within 1 microsecond after making contact with the skin, during which time the circumference of the circular saw covers 0.5 mm and that is what I saw in demonstration video's, the saw tooth barely had a chance to make a cut in the finger.
A much safer way would be to have a Lazer on the fence that recognized the hand well before making contact with the blade . the lazer could trigger a electric break on the saws motor stopping the motor instead of the actual blade itself.

that is 100,000 mm/s
In 5 milliseconds, the circumference of the circular saw covers 500 mm, which is more than enough to saw off a finger.
The circular saw must stop within 1 microsecond after making contact with the skin, during which time the circumference of the circular saw covers 0.5 mm and that is what I saw in demonstration video's, the saw tooth barely had a chance to make a cut in the finger.
"How did you lose a finger?"
"I THOUGHT I COULD TRUST THOSE THINGSđą"
That implies that he willingly touched it to break it

A much safer way would be to have a Lazer on the fence that recognized the hand well before making contact with the blade . the lazer could trigger a electric break on the saws motor stopping the motor instead of the actual blade itself.
Can't wait for corporate to cheap out of this
People who prioritize money will say, "if the employee's hand was cut because of their fault, why should we break the saw for his fault?"
The animations get scarier every single day
they really donât though.
Same with you NPC's
For me it does
I feel like people that says "the animation are getting scarier everyday" are bots
