  • All aboard, and join Kendall as he takes to the town of Santa Margarita, CA. Along the way, we'll explore the history of the town and learn about the historic Santa Margarita Ranch. We'll see remnants of the El Camino Real, a California mission and get to go inside the original Disneyland rail cars. All this in a beautiful setting.
Special thanks to Destini and Ron for letting us shoot at this wonderful ranch.

What a great video! I did not even know it was there. You can’t see it from the 101.
    Thanks!

I was here during a best of the west steam show, if you think the ranch is cool as it sits now then wait till you see the steam show, it was surreal

    Hi, Kendall.
Good video covering much of the early history of Santa Margarita. Thank you.
    BUTTTTTTT ........................
Where you were standing and saying that you were standing on the old El Camino Real is NOT in fact the El Camino Real. I KNOW because I made that cutting in 2020 as part of the proposed extensions for the railway. There was NO road or trail of any kind where you were standing before I made that railroad right-of-way.
The REAL El Camino Real is about 25 yards to your right as you stand in that shot. If I was not currently about 11,000 miles away, I could take you to at least two other places where the original road is still visible.
As I understand it, the current owner of that section of the ranch built that barn over the old mission church building to protect the remains from further weathering shortly after he bought the ranch.
What you pointing to as the Wells Fargo office is in fact the ranch's workshop. The building behind the one you are indicating is what is known as the Granary and is the current railroad workshop.
The REAL Wells Fargo office is behind the lawn that you showed earlier, to the West of it. I think the lawn area is called the Estrada Garden. Immediately South-ish of the garden is the old ranch house, bunk house and water tower.
IF you didn't do it, it mighta bin a good idea to talk to the current owner of the ranch to get a bit more of the history of the town and the ranch. He has quite a bit of information about it.
Thanks again. I have some very fond memories of that area and the people who live there.
    Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

      Hi,@@adventureswithkendall.
If my understanding is correct, the old stage coach road came onto what is now the South-west corner of the ranch right near the junction of 101 and state route 58, close to the park-n-ride. There is an existing ford across Santa Margarita Creek immediately downstream from the new bridge just inside the route 58 gate and I am about as sure as I can be given that I was not there when the coaches were running that this is where they crossed the creek.
The existing road from there deviates from the original coach route. There is a flat area after you top the first rise out of the creek heading North. Off to the East of that flat area is a small hill with a tree on top of it. If you are heading South along the current road from the reservoirs, you can see a notch in the side of the hill just East of that tree. I am pretty sure that notch is one of two places where you can still see the original coach road. You can't see this notch when travelling North.
The other place is a similar notch right alongside the existing road about 25 yards to the right of where you were standing on the proposed railway extension and just South of that point between the existing road and an oak tree.
The current road between the reservoirs is about 8 feet lower than it was when I first went over there due to the 'landscaping' efforts of myself and several others who helped.
The Wells Fargo office has rather low door frames and doors - - - to stop people riding their horses into the office.
Just a bit more of what I know and/or was told.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
