Plot:
The guardians must face their greatest enemy again. And this time, Pitch isn’t alone, he has a mysterious follower to work for him. Jack chases after him until he meets Pitch and learns the shocking truth that the mysterious man is Hiccup, His close friend who died in a battle with a dragon a long time ago .The loss was so devastating for Jack that he disappeared for decades before returning to his guard duties.
An unexpected meeting raises Jack many questions. He tries to talk to Hiccup, but finds Hiccup doesn't recognize him. That made Jack even more confused. But before Jack can speak any further, He was taken to another place by Pitch’s shadow. Meanwhile, Hiccup feels like he met Jack before, but his memory is too fuzzy to remember. The Guardians emerge and bring Hiccup back to the base. But Hiccup escapes with Pitch's help.
The Guardians want Jack to let go and accept Hiccup's death, Because it all seemed to be Pitch's plan to distract him from the fight. But the moment Jack thought of giving up, he recalled a box of memories that Tooth used to tell him which might be the answer for everything.
Jack sneaks into Pitch's Lair to search for a box of memories. But Pitch is already waiting there. He gave him the memory box and told that he was the one behind Hiccup's death. Jack is now filled with anger, Chasing down Pitch hoping to fight him, But It was Hiccup who stands right before him.
And thus The fight begins. Overwhelmed by his rage, Jack is opened to be attacked by Hiccup, the blow sends him into unconsciousness. Losing their main force of the fight, The guardians are surrounded by Pitch’s shadow and about to lose, Everything is according to Pitch’s plan. But the unexpected moment happened, Hiccup regains his memory which makes Pitch lose his control over him, but not completely.
The memory box is activated, all memories inside flood into Jack’s mind. He was Hiccup’s friend until he was drowned in an accident. Hiccup decided to make a pact with Pitch, to trade his life for resurrecting Jack. But because Jack was chosen to be the guardian as the man on the moon, Pitch changed his mind. Instead of taking Hiccup’s life, he decided to make him his servant, For his relationship with Hiccup might give him an advantage in his plan of destroying the guardians.
Now Jack knows everything, The only way to free Hiccup is to destroy his pact with Pitch. He ignores his injuries and uses his last strength to fight, and he wins. After Pitch turned into dust, Hiccup who is now free from his bound rushes to save Jack from falling with no hesitation. But because Jack used all his power, He fades away too. While Hiccup and the guardians are mourning this loss , someone walks in…

Q: Is hiccup really dead after fighting the dragon?
A: No, he wasn’t. It was staged by Pitch to retrieve Hiccup without being known by the guardians.
Q: Why did Pitch lie that he killed hiccup?
A: Because he wanted to mess with Jack’s mind. Hiccup’s death was already too much for Jack to bear, but knowing that it was caused by him would make Jack fall deeper into despair and render him blind from the truth and reasons.
Q: When Hiccup’s memory return, why does Jack’s memory box also react to this?
A: When Pitch took memories out of Hiccup, he stored it in Jack’s memory box. Because only the owner of the memory box or the guardians can open it, if Pitch forces the memories he stole into Jack’s box, Hiccup won’t be able to take it back. That’s why when Jack opened the box, all the memories flowed back to Hiccup too.
Q: If the box is so important, why did pitch give it to Jack so easily?
A: The box was just a decoy to lure Jack separate from the guardians. Even though Jack was able to open the box, He would only find his memory because the memory will react when the owner of the memory wants it. Also, Pitch made a promise to give this box as a reward but if he gave Jack, Hiccup must fight Jack to get it, just to make things more dramatic and fun.
Q: Does Pitch have the power to resurrect someone?
A: Pitch doesn’t have it, he needed test subjects for practicing some magic and came across Hiccup who was in despair. He tricked him to make a pact in exchange for saving Jack‘s life, which Pitch wouldn’t do.
