  • Long time no upload! I've been busy with teaching and starting a new job but I finally found time to film and edit this one.
    In this video I walk through the curriculum I teach to my level 1 lyra students and show some videos from my early days an aerialist. I'll walk you through what to wear and bring and what to expect as far as struggles and soreness.
    This is part 1 of what I want to be a 3 part series walking through what to expect in your first silks class and with the 3rd being what to expect in your first pole dance class.

    Can you imagine if we had someone making videos like this when we first started?? Game changer.

    Thank you for this! I went to my first Lyra class tonight. I wasn't able to get up into the hoop yet but I know with consistency I'll get there.

    We did mostly conditioning my first lyra session. I am very weak and my muscles were shaking and very sore by the time I got to actually touch the hoop. I felt I didn't even have enough strength to actually use the hoop by the end of class. I was so sore the next few days I haven't been able to continue any conditioning on my own. Do you have any tips for a beginner?

    • @aerial.allison9063
      @aerial.allison9063  Před 2 lety +3

      Just keep going back! It can be discouraging at first but you'll make progress so much faster than you think you will
      I felt the same way in my first few weeks of silks, too tired to do anything after warm up climbs🥵

      Workout with strength training in between classes. I took pole dance and had to start working out to gain strength so I could keep up with the new moves

    Aloha, do you recommend getting a single or a double loop lyra for a beginner, and the wider or the standard width of the bar? Thank you~

    • @aerial.allison9063
      @aerial.allison9063  Před rokem

      Either one would be fine! I've never worked on a double tab hoop except for a couple times but one isn't harder than the other, just different tricks available! I'd go with a standard width bar

    Hi there Allison! Thank you for your video. I am almost 200 pounds or I think I’m already there and I want to lose weight through dancing. Will this type of dance help me lose weight? I saw my favorite artist doing lyra and I became so inspired because it’s such a beautiful dance. I just wanted to know if this will help me lose weight. Thank you

    • @aerial.allison9063
      @aerial.allison9063  Před 2 lety +2

      It would in the long run because you'd be building muscle, its not gonna be a quick change or as fast as doing cardio or lifting weights, but if it's something you're interested in and have fun doing then it will be much more effective than trying to something you don't like!

    Hey, since you’re in the Cincinnati area, what do you think about the Cincinnati Circus? I’ve spoken with them recently because they’re hiring. Do you happen to know if it’s a good organization to work for as a performer?

      I actually started there as a student! My early video clips are in their warehouse

    Just by curiosity can a person who is blind do this or is there a safety liability?

    • @aerial.allison9063
      @aerial.allison9063  Před 2 lety +3

      Ive never had a blind student but I have seen acts where people do it blindfolded, I am 100% sure that a blind human could do this safely with the right guidance, definitely a private lesson so they can get the entire focus of the instructor

    • @aerial.allison9063
      @aerial.allison9063  Před 2 lety

      Some people do! The same gloves youd use for weight lifting I think. Most of my students do just try to get the calluses and then they can train longer and longer, it takes a couple weeks for your hands to stop feeling like fire haha
