In this video, I go through a dense vegetation LiDAR dataset captured by the ROCK R2A LiDAR on the DJI M300 drone. See how to generate contours and process your LiDAR data.

Like you said, LiDAR is really useful in these types of environments and it's probably a good idea to give more hints about the correct why to collect the data like speed, scanning patterns, flight planning, etc.
Also, at some point, it would be great to get your comments on strip alignment and boresighting using more computational methods (as opposed to visual alignment)

The M300/R2A combo is working amazing for us as well. And overall the cost of the system is pretty reasonable in my opinion. This is definitely an affordable option in the industry. I would like to see a video comparison using LiDar Data and the site supplemented with hard survey in the dense vegetation areas.

Good stuff Harrison, always fun to catch the new videos. How about a video focusing on dense vegetation capture where the goal is to map the vegetation! I'm really curious how well the R2A can capture vegetation structure when the flightlines are not just traditional lawnmower pattern.

Hello from Houston, Tx and thank you for this video. I support new build construction projects for my company, and part of our estimates include ground preparation. The question I have is, once we collect the LIDAR data, how can we calculate (A) the volume of trees and vegetation that will need to be removed and (B) the amount of cut & fill material that will be required to prepare the site for construction? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Do you know if there are any publicly available drone LiDAR datasets for parts any of the forests in California or other areas or perhaps someone I could reach out too? Hey Harrison, just came up to this video. I’m a fellow land surveyors that had taken interest in doing LiDAR for my next project to help me save time and cost. Thank you for the explanation! Since I was new to this field and basically I only learn photogrammetry in my college years and it’s not my expertise, I have one question: How did you get the GCP coordinates, did you do a separate RTK Survey using GPS Receiver or is it included in the drones/it’s attachment? Thank you for the answers!

In our tests with the L1 and R2A on identical flight paths/parameters. I measured the width of a conductor and it was. 3" vs 9" I mostly stopped testing with the L1 after we verified the results. A real simple recommendation would be to fly slow/low and do your calibrations every 100 seconds with the L1 for best results.

@@IndianaDronesyou are welcome. I work in river restoration, and am trying to show my organisation the benefits of LiDAR. I've read that some data is collected through water and saw on this video that your point cloud seemed to show the surface of the water but your topographic model showed what looked to me to be a river channel. I know that plane mounted LiDAR is used along the coast but was wondering how capable drone mounted options were. I'm specifically interested in the DJI L1, but would be extremely interested to hear any insight you have.
