These the original lyrics are the best version of this song. The rewritten version is GOOD, it's just a shame that no one sings the original lyrics. Because in my opinion, the original lyrics are what makes this song GREAT.

It’s so bizarre I just discovered this version to my surprise the original version. I have a naturally super deep voice and it’s hard to find songs that I can sing. Ive always heard this song sung in much higher pitched singers and brings me great joy this song was originally written for someone with a deep voice. I always sung this song and people thought I was singing it wrong. Well turns out I’ve been singing it in the original format unknowingly to me

Read the words in Psalm 51 where the repentant King David, who had before taken Bathsheba in adultery and killed her husband Uriah. Uriah had been an extremely loyal servant soldier in the army. David had him killed to hide his own sinful act. If there is a hallelujah to lift up to God it is for his forgiveness of King David. Also, it is instructive that David did not escape punishment, but the sword never left his house. Death and destruction were the signature of his family and his household in the wake of his sin. “Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation.”

King David crying out to the Lord after he fell to sin of a beautiful woman and had her husband killed in battle to have her for himself. He was broken in spirit he had sinned great before God maker of heaven and esrth. He repented. After all this great sin, God still calls King David [a man after His own heart because King David truly sought the Lord and worshiped Him alone.] GREAT IS THE LORD ALMIGHTY. He sent Christ to set sinners free , that none should perish but have eternal life by the ransom He paid with His holy blood for all that accept this free gift. For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3: 16. Everyone has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. He is holy.God made a way for all if they receive His gift of salvation, and seek Him with their whole heart. Jesus said to the woman caught in adultery to her accusers " He who is without sin cast the first stone. " Jesus then turned to the woman [ to be stoned to death , and said " where are your accusers?" ] ( they all dropped their stones and left one by one.) He then spoke to her " Go and sin no more."

I've been saying this for so long! When I was a teen listening to this I was like "hmm, this actually sounds less innocent, more sexual...?" But was confused because this has been played at memorials and enlightening moments so I figured I must be wrong 😂 but in recent years I've held firm that is a sexual song of the tortures of love/lust and tell everyone and they think I'm crazy, I'm like have ya'll actually sat down and looked at the lyrics?!
"Tied you to a kitchen chair, broke your throne, cut your hair, and from your lips she drew the hallelujah"
That is basically sounding a lot like bondage, humiliation, and the eventual submission to lust. And that's after he sings about watching a beautiful woman bathing in the moonlight lol so..

I think it means that agter David sinned, he lost so much. The sword would never left his House from then. Sin breaks not only your throne, but also your relarionship with the Lord. Fron then on it would be a broken halleluja. Once baffeled with God, expressing his love in perfect song and halleluja, ended up a broken man, with a broken hart and a broken Halleluja. Thanks to God in Christ who came for the broken. Now we can keep on singing halleluja, now and for ever more!
