So generous of you to share your thoughts and lessons. It's also important to note that these interviews are imperfect. Listening and watching you, your thoughtfulness, it seems that it is McKinsey's loss that they did not select you. Their process failed them. The universe loves people like you :) Another path will open for you for sure. Embrace the beautiful life and I wish you joy in the little things and a life full of curiosity, exploration, good challenge and happiness :)

Kina, I think you are a great person that is very reflective and sensitive and it is sad that is not valued by strategy consultancies. Personally, I think it's best you did not join as I've heard many stories from similar people that say that life sucked the soul out of them. I'm very sorry to hear you had those thoughts after the rejection. Rejection is always horrible, especially when it's something you've worked hard and put yourself out for, but no place of work is worth those thoughts. It's just a job at the end of the day, and the treatment of employees at 'prestigious' companies is just the same, if not worse, than others. Grass is always greener, as they say. I hope you are doing better now and I wish you all the best, I'm sure you will achieve whatever you set out to achieve, this is just a small bump in a long line of opportunities for you.

    Hi Kina,
Hope you are feeling better now. Thanks for sharing your feelings openly. Vulnerability requires courage and you have tons of it so kudos! I would say that it's their loss and not yours. Keep shining and making this world a better place.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I think it might have been a good idea to email Mckinsey back after you received the final feedback, saying that you think you were mistook for somebody else as the answers provided did not match the answers you given (plus your reasons why). I think this might not change anything but I think it would be worth trying at that time. Wishing you a lot of luck on your journey ahead! Mckinsey sucks anyway in work life balance and up or out policy is also brutal. This might have been a blessing in disguise.

Don't take it so personally. It's such a small thing. I think you need to seriously work on your stress tolerance. It may even have been the best outcome for you in the long run.
If you really want to get there, then you need to work on your mistakes, increase your resistance to stress, and perhaps next year these interviews will be very easy for you!

Hope all is well with you. Although you haven't got the final offer from the company, you already proved that your logical and structured thinking is much more outstanding than others with the fact that you got into the final round of the McKinsey. You deserved to be valued, and I believe that you are able to do anything you want in future. Thank you for sharing your experience! Good Luck!

At up to 2:04 mark, same I did not rest, working hard for exam revision for deadline, not realising I am not calm and relaxed giving me no space at all to think, stopped socialising for two years which completely took away my understanding of group dynamics in team work exercise, and finally not understanding success in career and studies are marathon rather than sprint. I did not see I was burning out. My friend I am in the same page. The sad part is I knew all the question and how to give a very high level answer to stand out which I have been preparing for years. Hey you will get there. Take that holiday and come back strong.

I really resonate with this !
I just got rejected recently from a Big 4 after getting to final round - and honestly their inability to assess people properly is a reflection of not knowing what they actually want and general unpreparedness… 🙄😒

Thank you so much for sharing, a very similar thing happend to me, not with McKinsey, but another firm. I had 5 interview rounds, and i did rather well in the first 4, with multiple intevrviews saying "when would you be able to start? Would you be in a position to accept an offer in the coming weeks?" "I look forward to seeing you at the office soon".. then the last interview guy also pops in late, i could see in his eyes and voice he already was uninterested before i even said hello, but i tried to maintain my composure and maintain my peppy happy attitude. But as the interview went on, it was just an unpleasant and uncomfortable experience... it was such a stark difference from the first 4 interviews i had. I was so excited with the first 4 thinking how i loved their attitudes and company culture. The only feedback i got afterwards was that my eyecontact with the camera wasnt constant, (where i already explained that i was in a unfamiliar place while taking the interview and having to use two screens in an awkward angle as i was travelling) and the most shocking part... i was told that i underperformed in the case.... we didnt even do a case..... I was quite excited about this opportunity as i felt like i would be a great fit for the role and type of cases their firm dealt with. But yeah even i had to convince myself "its for the best, and i dodged a bullet" ... these things happen. I havent really complained or told anyone about this till now, but i wanted to let you and others know, youre not alone. But things only get better. Thanks again for the video and genuine thoughts. And for giving me a place to vent this frustration i kept bottled up for so long 🙏.

Another kicker, they even scheduled me for the HR call for after the 5th round. And after a call with that guy, literally a few hours later I was told that the HR interview was cancelled with no additional context, and was told to contact someone else.. this happened on a Friday so I had no clue what was happening till Monday. 😅

Hi Kina, this was a really great video thank you for sharing! I was wondering, did you reach out to them to check whether a mistake had been made in the assessment? It sounded like they may have gotten your interview confused with someone else. One of my friends had the same issue at one of the major banks and he contacted HR who then arranged a new interview for him.

All of these job interviews are just not assessing people properly. I actually came to realise that they are seriously waste of time. I promised myself to go my own way rather than conforming them in the first place. The true mindset is not pleasing them, but rather to be someone they cannot basically reject.

I m gonna say it shortly. Being in McKinsey wont make you happy. You will constantly need to compete with shitty people, try to prove yourself, work late nights. I think that you are a really hardworking and smart person who has forgotten to value herself whilst pursuing material success. No amount of success is going to make you happy. Please take some time off, go to a new country (possibly a chill one like latin america or spain) volunteer, do some work that engages the human in you. Hangout with the chill people there. And try to see and appreciate how little is actually needed to be happy in your life. This is coming from a consultant who was rejected at final round in MBB and who is graduated from the best university in his country. I understand you. Please put some time to work on what you value in your life. Everything will fall into place afterwards. ( Suggested book: mark manson the subtle art of not giving a fuck)

Pfffff... You honestly deserve better... what on gods green earth was that pathetic excuse from the interviewer..."clients have bad connection too". No they don't, they pay McKinsey hella money, they'll afford good connection. On top of that they mistook you for someone else? Wack! Please don't ever think the way you do just because some snobby partner didn't want to move and provide a good space for the interview. It's their loss, a huge L for McKinsey.
