- What's the point of having a woodworking workshop if it doesn't create joy? In this video, I explore what it means to be happy in the workshop, and how to get there by creating things not for profit, but for the love of seeing how the recipient cherishes it.
Yes, I made my workshop from pallet wood and bed slats, but occasionally I mix in some resin and store-bought timber, along with reclaimed wood, to make cool things. These are some of my best woodworking projects, and they all have one thing in common... they were made to be gifted, not sold.

For safety. Remember you only have a pair of hand. That’s the basic of working with cutting tools. 😊
I have a sort-of-vice, but not a proper woodworking one as I don't do a lot of hand tool work usually. When I have a bigger shop with a heavy bench I'll get one then :)

10:43 sponges would help, wrap sandpaper over a small piece of sponge to get into grooves and corners
Geez I am daft aren't I? I literally have sponges for exactly this you'll see when I apply the finish on the frame... but never thought to use it for the sanding blocks... 😥🤣 Cheers mate, I owe you one!

@FixitFingers Yes, yes, yes, of course. I'm pretty sure my wife has always wanted a brad nailer. Well, actually, some firewood boxes were the first project with the new nailer (the young fella on nails), and the boss gave one of those to a friend of hers. There was a tiny bit of recognition that me tearing up pallets in the backyard and carving a sheep trail to local hardware was actually worthwhile.
Hey James, do you have an 18v blower running in the teal tackle? Or, small workshop suited blower?
@@jackchapo2011 both! I have the 18Vx2 medium size leaf blower that I use to push sawdust out of the garage, and the awesome little 18V high velocity blower for cleaning tools and surfaces. I can very much recommend the second one if you don't have a compressor for such tasks. I also have the big-boy 56V Ego yard blower for the garden ;) I blow a lot it seems hahaha
Enjoying the recap mate 👍 I am interested in your router sled though…did you look anywhere in particular for inspiration ? I had an 18v Makita but have upgraded to a 40v example. Reason for asking is I’m looking to do some epoxy coffee table mods next year and I’m thinking the best place to start is to have some of the necessary jigs ready. Cheers Rob
Nowhere specific no, though I am sure I cobbled it together based on other things I'd watched. I actaully cover the building of it in my 5 Beginner's jigs video at the timestamp here: czcams.com/video/eflqQJPKtTA/video.htmlsi=DbPOCmrd34_unaN7&t=685 The main thing for me was that clear plate is my router table insert, so I made my jig based around it. They are pretty simple, but mine is way too small for coffee tables, check out early Dainer Made videos before he got the thicknessers! He flatted a *lot* of coffee tables and hall stands this way :)

I often don't use it for the router as I find it defeats the point of having a cordless one. I should use it more, but I am happy in my mask :)

Always start with a piece of scrap wood. Morever you do not have extra pieces?
That depends on what I am making. As I use mostly scrap and scavanged wood, I often don't have extra material exactly the same to test on, but I can usually find something close!
