- Dutch fans gathered in Westerpark in Amsterdam to watch their side in the Euro 2024 semi-final against England on Wednesday (10th July).
There was a party atmosphere right from the start - the early goal from Xavi Simons adding to this.
But a Harry Kane equaliser followed by the late Ollie Watkins winner saw England through 2-1 - and left the disappointed Dutch trying to make the best of the rest of their evening.

I saw an article yesterday that apparently the dutch fans were being violent towards the English, then I saw livestreams of Dutch and English fans, talking together, laughing together, drinking together, dancing together and just having a good time. Dutch is one of the closest languages to English. We have common ancestry. As you say though football expresses itself in the emotion written over people's faces, the synchronised roar when the ball hits the back of the net or palms touching foreheads when its against our own team.
The Dutch are just as jinxed as us. Just like us, they have only won 1 trophy in their entire history. We both got KO to Portugal at euro 2004 and The WC in 2006.

I think not having Frankie De Jong available became a major blow as the Dutch teams’s midfield creative spark and being able to win the ball back and create spaces. Without him, I think the Dutch team reaching the semis was a good end result for this tournament.

We’d never have lost that game if that ridiculous penalty decision wasn’t given. Unbelievable decision but hey that referee was always going to be on the England side with all the talk about him being corrupt by the English media so no wonder he made sure England got every decision went the way of the English side. Congratulations on getting there but there was a few very odd decisions during the game.

It was a brave effort by the Dutch to reach a major semifinal. Even the horrible defeat to France in their first match of Euro 2024 qualifying phase, they still went all the way to the semifinal. They really show a lot at this year tournament.

I’ve been a fan of The Netherlands football team since the legendary 70s era of “Total Football”. Cruyff, Neeskens, Rensenbrink, Krol, Haan, Rep, … were the superstars that I had great respect for. The Dutch don’t realise how many English youngsters were inspired by their brand of football and the particular brilliance of their maestros over the last 50 years. The Brazilians have their sexy football, the Germans have great Teutonic efficiency, the Italian have great defense and strike tactical mastery. The Dutch have everything in their legacy including trophies, they lost only 1 football match vs our England team. They will never lose their great legacy and will be back to continue their momentous football journey 🙏🏽
