    The components that have failed in my computers were noisy fans. Living off grid, low power consumption is also great. I never understood why so many people apply cooling paste sloppily with a dot in the middle. In wood working there is a saying: "Never expect the glue to go anywhere by itself". Great job.

      @mikaelnorlen7734 Thank you! I suggest you get the phanteks t30 fans. These are the best in the market right now. Long lifespan, best performance, and silence.
      Undervolting and under clocking is essential for you, especially if you're living off-grid.

    These videos are great. From your last video, the paste application seemed thick. I’m not familiar with K5. Is that a normal amount? Do you think your heat dissipation would be better with a thinner application?

    • @honestcomputing
      @honestcomputing  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Thank you! That's how it's supposed to be applied. Heat dissipation would only have a negative effect if I applied too little of it. It squeezes out the extra from the pressure anyway.

      I'll remake one when I build the open air PC in a couple of months. I'll be sure to upload that and link it for everyone. 😀

    If you have access to a CNC machine, you could cut additional air holes in the top cover. I designed a honeycomb pattern for mine since hot air can't easily escape and unfortunately builds up inside the case under sustained load. Regardless, I very much enjoy the silence - hard to go back to audible fans in the future.

    • @honestcomputing
      @honestcomputing  Před 5 měsíci

      That's a cool mod, man 👍 Yes the case seems to trap a lot of the heat inside. The next build will be an open-air one. I think that strikes the balance for everything, efficiency, power, performance, and silence.

      @@honestcomputing Yeah, I think that's a good idea. I wish there was an "open" mini-ITX case with just enough mesh cover to protect the components. I will be interested to see what you end up building though, when the time comes.
