Thank you for your understanding and voicing of the source of the students' protest as motivated by compassion for humans who are suffering and dying and your unveiling of the way the university administration requested police responses have been vastly disproportionate and have prejudiced the public against the protesters!! It is against UC policy to allow overnight encampments on University property.
The UC cops advised the administrators that this was dangerous and that it was against clearly stated black-letter policy, but the administrators decided to allow the encampments.
What followed was, unfortunately, predictable.

2020 was not okay for most US citizens. The violence on campus now is not okay either. Harassment, intimidation, breaking into buildings, and vandalism are NOT okay.

For a minute I was skeptical that this "journalist on the ground" and his description of the happenings as "unbelievably dangerous" might both be painfully absurd...but then he clarified that there were actually four unauthorized fireworks that went off, not just the one.

When I heard the BLM speakers say they supported black, brown and red people, I was interested because I am two out of the three they were supporting. When rioters tried to enter my family members working class neighborhood (the people they stated they supported) with Molotov cocktails shouting “Burn it down, Burn it all down” on three separate occasions, they lost my support. Burning down our homes has already been done to my ancestors and it is not the way to achieve support.
