- Hunting Swamps: There are three main observations we've made after two decades hunting swamps on public land in Michigan:
1. Leeward bedding adjacent to higher ground. Deer in the swamp rely on their sense of smell in the swamp because of the limited line of sight. This concentrates bedding to areas leeward to their evening destination.
2. Bucks bed down wind of doe bedding during all phases of the rut. This allows bucks to monitor the does so they are the first to know when does go into heat. This also makes it easy for them to know when another buck is trying to infiltrate their doe group.
3. Ghost bucks. In Michigan, there's usually one dominant buck that controls a doe bedding area. In this scenario, we've observed does actually going to the buck instead of the buck looking for does. This makes it difficult to hunt those bucks because they don't have to move much.

@@latitudeoutdoors first one. In the past have done hanging stands on families farm in TN, but live in AR now and only have public to hunt on. So looking for something to get up off the ground but not permanent and able to slip around depending on situation.
