    If you are reading this post, your Viking igniter units are likely having some issues.
    Not to worry; fixing both of the two most common Viking igniter issues are simple DIY jobs.
    Let’s start by giving credit where credit is due: Viking ranges are built like tanks; they last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance. As with most top-of-the-line brands in any appliance category, a premium price tag often comes with similar high-price support and service calls. High-price support and service calls are definitely not my cup of tea, especially when we can fix the issues with a few simple parts! The igniters and the spark units are universal parts so they are compatible on all classic Viking ranges. Let’s take a look at the two most common igniter issues:
    Issue Number One: No spark on ANY burner.
    Turning a gas knob to the “ignite” position is supposed to light that one burner, In addition, there should also be a visible spark on all of the burners (4, 6 etc,) when attempting to light a single burner. When attempting to ignite your stove and there is no spark on any of your burners, you have a bad spark module. The fix is very straightforward. Note: If the spark is only missing from one or two of your burners, then skip to “issue number two.”
    Order the authentic Viking spark module. The part you order is dependent on the number of burners your stove has. Here are Amazon links for the 4-Burner and and the 6-Burner spark units. (If you need other configurations please leave comments below and I will try to help out).
    Unplug your Viking stove from the wall (important)
    Locate the spark module behind the unit, after that, take a picture of the wiring before you undo anything.
    Replace your old module with the new module, then make sure you replace the wires to their original positions on the new spark unit. Done!
    Issue Number Two: The igniters continue to spark after the gas burner is lit.
    This is an issue with one (or more) of your igniters. The white, vertical component that the spark jumps from on each of your burners is called the “igniter”. The function of the igniter is actually two-fold. It creates the necessary gap that generates the spark to light the burner, in addition, it also senses when the burner is lit to let the spark module know to stop sparking. In time, the igniters often become fouled or worn due to normal use and will need to be replaced. Here is a link for a universal, authentic Viking igniter (you will need one for each burner). I recommend ordering a set (depending on the number of burners you have) so you can use the new units to identify one or more bad units. You can always return any extra units once the bad igniters are identified and replaced.

    Thank you so much. My problem was that the oven igniter would not spark. The stove had been moved around quite a bit while our floors were being replaced. I found that the wire had become disconnected. I also found that I had to crimp the connector to get it stay on.
    One aside, I wished you were showing my problem because I ended up trying to do all of the work from inside the oven. 90 minutes later when I had trouble getting it put back together, I thought to myself "I wonder if the panel below the door would give me access?" Two screws and there was the wire connection to the igniter. 10 minutes later I was done. You live and learn. 🙂

    I had the exact same problem that this video helped me diagnose. I swapped the wire with another burner and the problem followed the wire. I abraded the contact surface with an x-acto knife blade and tightened the contact and used contact cleaner. That fixed my problem.

    Hi, I have an issue with the broil ignitor of my Viking stove. Sometimes It works well. However, the other day, when I turned the nob to broil, it seemed to be working fine but after 5 minutes it made this "wouf" sound and the oven door opened and closed for about 1/2 inch.

    I have the same or similar range (Viking VGSC306-4BSS). Thanks for showing two potential reasons why a top burner might fail to spark -- I'll check for corrosion at the igniter mounts and the spade connectors. Mine doesn't have the same issue -- all 4 top burners spark and ignite dependably *except* when the oven is on and quite hot -- then *no* top burner that is not already lit will spark or ignite until the oven is turned off and cooled down somewhat. Because the behavior is all 4 together, I doubt it's the top igniter wiring (but again, thanks for your clear and informative video). I'm currently researching whether the spark module/controller might be disabling top burner sparking because it thinks something is amiss when actually it's just too hot.

    • @ModsAndProjects
      @ModsAndProjects  Před 5 lety

      Hmm..interesting. there are no electronic components topside other than the wiring and igniters which should not be affected by an increase in temperature. the fact that all four units fail to spark when your oven is at temperature would lead me to believe something is wrong with a shared component.. perhaps the coil?
      let me know when you figure it out so if it ever happens to me I know where to look!

    • @jciccare2453
      @jciccare2453 Před 5 lety

      The only shared component I see is the "ignitor module" (the brains of the operation; Google "Viking PA020041"). It is also topside, under a metal shield that also covers the 4 solenoid gas valves. Beneath all that is the slide-out crumb/drip tray, with the oven compartment below.

    Thanks so much for the video. I have the same stove and I will dismantle it and start the process of fixing it with the help of your video. My only question is, what size spade connectors did you use? I'm not sure if that seems to be the problem with my stove with the clicking and not igniting on its own, but in the event that it is, I want to have the proper replacement items.

When I turn on any one of the left column burner (front or rear), the middle burner ignitor starts to click continuously non stop. But If I light the two burners simultaneously (rear and front) of the left burner column, no click occurs. If I ignite the middle column burners, all work well. Any advise?

      I would try new igniters. You are getting a spark so you probably don't need a new Spark Module (if one of the two or a combination of both) - Start with the igniters.

    Thank you for such a great informative video and a very detailed caption above! Question: I have a 4 burner Viking, the 24in VGIC245 model. The two right burners are fine (often they spark click to no flame until you turn them off and try again, 2nd time being the charm).
    However on the two left burners, there is only gas coming through, while the only spark clicks that occur happen on the right burners.
    What do you think the fix is?
    1) replacing the plugs as you have beneath the two left side spark posts
    2) Cleaning the spark plug heads with steel brush and cleaner
    3) replacing the stove's spark module altogether
    THANK YOU in advance for any help you can provide!

    I have a 30" 17 year old viking range and the oven is not heating properly. What happens is that only the right oven burner ignites. My first step was to replace both burners but still only the right ignited. I assumed the ignitor on the left simply wasn't hot enough (being old) so I switched the left and the right to see if that was the issue. Once again, only the right side ignited so it's not the ignitors. Could the gas regulator be at fault? Any suggestions?

    I have the same style Viking range (except 6 burner) and recently lost power to igniters on 4 burner side only. I replaced spark module (on 4 burner side only) and all igniters worked, except now sparking would not stop unless all 4 burners were lit. I then replaced igniter switches on the 4 knobs and the same sparking problem continues, unless all 4 burners are lit (stops when 4 are lit). I am going to try and replace the igniters, ever though they all spark. Maybe they are not sensing the heat, although they worked fine before the module went out. Do you have any input?

      His model is a four burner with just one ignitor module that clicks all four burners. Larger models with a six burners, or grill in the center have two spark modules so that might be your issue (left module bad). Remove the left burner grills, the spill baskets, and then the enamel stove top and look onthe left wall for the exaxt model and serial number so you know what you are working with.

      I have a Viking stove. It is 15 years old and I purchase a warranty plan every 3 years. It isn’t that expensive. I have used it numerous times over the years and as recently as one month ago. I have had to have the 2 igniters replaced several times as the oven didn’t light. Also they replaced the whole door because the rubber gasket kept loosening. Today the top burners won’t turn on..It’s always something! I’ve looked at the new, less expensive stoves, but they are flimsy and cheaply manufactured.
