      Thank you for watching my videos . If you don't have a mortar and pestle, just roughly grind it in a grinder. Our Nana's are special , I did learn a lot from my gran .

    Thank you. My nan passed away this February and I've been cooking a lot of her things lately, I just froze about 30 curry puffs for my daughter. I didnt learn this recipe. So thank you so much because I am craving it with plain rice and I don't actually remember having it when I was younger, just smelling a glass bowl of it that would have an upside down saucer on it whilst is cooled down on the side x x I will make some very soon

    My grandmother was Anglo- Indian but her pepper water was entirely different. The red chillies, mustard seed and pepper corn were roasted and the put in a mortar and pounded. The ingredients were put into a pot with 3/4 cups of water, ball of tarmarind and about half a bulb of garlic and brought to a boil. Then in another pot, the onions were fried, with curry leaves and then added to the liguid. Does anyone remember this version ? Which begs the question was she really Anglo-Indian, because her father was Irish from the East India Company.

      I have come to realize that Anglo Indian Food is made differently in the different states of India , there are definitely slight variations . Just an example , I make Vindaloo with only meat, but in one of the South Indian states they put potatoes in Vindaloo .

      Yes your recipe is the way my grandma made it as well. We still follow the same method. Frying the curry leaves until they splutter with the mustard really brings out the flavours beautifully.

    Would you know the Anglo Indian way of preparing bitter gourd

    • @myangloindiankitchen
      @myangloindiankitchen  Před 2 lety +2

      Thank you , I generally cut the bitter Gourd in half lengthwise and take out the middle and then cut it into pieces and add turmeric ,chilliepowder and salt and deep fry it then drain it on a kitchen towel. Goes well with dal and rice.

    Nice Pepper water for a rainy day. I was disappointed you didn't add a little sugar at the end . Sugar magically brings out all the flavours in the most delightful way. Otherwise this is exactly the way my Nana used to make it....and sometimes she would add bones especially marrow bones to turn it into a yum monsoon speciality. Thankyou for posting....what would we Anglo Indians do without Pepper water !!!

      Hi , pepper water is delicious with plain steamed rice but you can always drink a hot bowl of it as it helps with digestion and it also helps ease up the congestion if you have a cold and cough.

      @myangloindiankitchen  Před 2 lety

      Hi Emily , I am not sure if it's the same as I am thinking but it's generally made with mutton chops and the spices would be onions , ginger, garlic, garam masala ,yoghurt , green chillies ground with coriander and mint leaves ,lemon juice and salt , I have not made this in a very long time .
