Dr. Phil's creampie lounge Not really, I’ve been listening for 30 seconds now and she said it once, I’ve heard teenagers who can’t talk without saying it as every second word.
It's not even funny how accurate this is.
I'll be making rice and daal in the dorm, and suddenly my mom calls to tell me "You're doing it wrong. Bye."
When you're so good at making good food for your family that you have a supernatural sense of when they need your help.
It’s like they just know!
Exactly.
I remember getting roasted by my brothers when I was a kid: "Just go make your cheese roti!"
Hey, don't knock sharp cheddar and roti till you've tried it :/ much less sun-dried tomatoes, pulled lamb, finely chopped shallots and cheddar...!

Because Indian parents call like every day...

Also Priya: *"lemme take another slice before i give it out"*
Also Priya: *"please leave me alone w the roti pizza"*
I never related so hard.
Am Indian, can confirm: totally normal to have a Roti Lady
I love that! Am Mexican, we have Tortilla and Tamales Lady. We're not Salvadorian but we not have a Pupusa Lady too! I should seek a Roti Lady.
We had one of those in Afghanistan
Lots of cultures have bakers
My grandma was the roti lady in my neighborhood
*Am white, can confirm: totally not normal for us*

Awwww this is so heartwarming! I love the story behind the roti pizza, then the phone call happened. I really can't help but smile.
It's interesting how similar these are to tortillas even down to the roti lady. When I was staying in Mexico there was definitely a tortilla lady in town that most people bought their tortillas from.
Hahaha I swear these ladies are universal! In the UK we definitely have our own version of a roti/Indian bread lady as well
Victor W. I think every culture has that. My mom has her empanada lady.
Every Priya episode should contact her mother or father for support, tips and facts.
Mysterious_ K awe that would be amazing 💕
That's racist
How is that racist?
Racist? That doesn't make any sense.
@@ssigmariecuevas7098 it was a bad joke about Indian customer service / tech support.
I'm sorry but I had to chuckle a bit when she had her parents on the phone and said "it's like having tech support."
Support for melting cheese for 5 mins on a flat bread.
And they're from India too.
@@recoil53 Well they have the Indian accent, not sure if they were born there but yes, that was the point. Lost on some but it's not as funny if it has to be pointed out why it's funny.
@@recoil53 there it is
On recommendation from a south Asian friend, I walked up to a nondescript suburban house and handed over some money and got a bag of vegetarian (potato and pea) and another of chicken samosas with a small jar of chutney. They were the best I ever had and have judged every samosa since against them.
commatoes why didn't you go back to buy the same samosas
@@labeeb07 Old job. Old city. Fortunately, there is a similar samosa lady whose family opened a stall at the local farmer's market. Not as good but still really damn good.

There used to be a house in my 'burbs where these mexicans would make tacos out of their kitchen and ran an illegal/underground restaurant.
Best tacos I've ever had to this day.
I lost it when her parents facetimed! Such a cute moment
I cried.
Bon Appetit management: We need a 6 episode, 3 hours long series on how to make the best pizza ever.
Priya: *_Hold my beer!_*
Extraordinary Voyage correction; hold her dahi toast hahaha

Priya: Hold my Roti
@@ramvyas3813 actually, give it back. I need it
hold my chonk
hold my chai
She's hilarious, nice recipe and the story of her mom figuring out how to make pizza for her kids was very heart warming
Priya always has such a great presence on camera in these videos, and I really enjoy the Indianish cultural cross-pollination of the dishes she shows.
Priya's parents are part of the overarching BA universe and lore now
Just a heads up, what Priya is refering to as Roti is aka Chapati. A lot of restaurants sell Tandoori Roti as just "Roti", while what Priya is cooking with is the traditional Roti that many restaurants sell as "Chapati" or "Phulka Roti"/"Fulka Roti"
Manjula calls them Chapati Roti. So good fresh off the pan with ghee.
In the UK I am used to them just being called chapatis. Also, now the restaurant near me called "Roti" makes a little more sense 😹
My kenyan friends call then Chapati as well
I spent some time in Tanzania where it was called Chapati, I've always heard roti in relation to Indian food.
@@GERBZ95 Been living in India for a while now, and here its called Chapati in restaurants, whereas the Tandoori Roti which is made of AP flour aka Maida and cooked in a clay oven is called Roti. However, in households the two terms are used interchangeably.
I too have a Roti lady. Except she's a he, and instead of Roti it's weed.
Then it's not a Roti lady. -.-

Khalid Aziz: my wife is half-Sicilian & half-Indian. I can relate vicariously through her, and many amazing meals at her parents’ house.
Beautiful story!
I'm Indian from the UK and as much as I think some stuff that American Indians say and do is weird, I also know that people like Priya are passionate about holding onto their culture and also it's so interesting to see and learn how they maintain both Indian and American identities through their food which is much harder to do there than in the UK
Don't you love how our national dish is a British/Indian creation though? A mix of both cultures that made something really delicious - a dish that is neither fully British or fully Indian. Brindian, if you like.
@@fiveohfivethree Haha are you talking about chicken tikka masala? I do love that we have that but I'm also basics vegetarian lol
@@yepitsthatguy5278 I am yes! My go to Indian dish is actually just daal and rice (I know it is supposed to be a side dish but I love it so much).
@@fiveohfivethree Haha daal and rice is the ultimate comfort food, I will just have a bowl of that for dinner sometimes. I'm glad that most Brits love Indian food so much but also most of them know only the oily/meaty curries and not the food we actually eat at home, which is fair because for us, all the kinds of vegetables we cook with might be scary for fans of Brindian cuisines. Our home food is always much healthier, cleaner and easier on the palette, I will always love that more than at the restaurants
@@fiveohfivethree Oh you're talking about Chicken Tikka Masala... I was trying to figure out how Fish & Chips is a mix of British/Indian food.
My favourite moments in these kinda videos is when the entire test kitchen gets together to eat the food that has been made. They seem like such a happy family and it makes me happy in return.
The rest of the BA test kitchen: we are gonna take 6 episodes to make the best pizza ever
Priya: hold my roti
Priya: on second thought gimme back that roti

Parents FaceTiming and helping out with a recipe is the type of pure content we need on CZcams.
Also it’s really cool to hear she’s from Dallas. We have a pretty large Indian population in the surrounding cities. Please ask your parents to invite me to dinner. Please.
PRIYA FOREVER!! i bought her cookbook and i cannot wait!!!! What an absolute treasure! As an indian american all of her series makes indian cooking style seem so much more accessible to me, i always thought it was so intricate and complex!! Bless 💗 thanks priya 💗
The story behind this made me tear up😍😍😭😭😭 Love love reminded me of my mother who'd do the same thing instead of getting take out. Thank you for sharing!
Is no one gonna talk about how she just casually drinking water from a bowl? Lmao
From a 1 pint container, same type as Chris Morocco's quart container.

Andy does it too, he mentioned how thats how all the test kitchen staff drink water
Welcome to the kitchen life. This is so common that we don't even notice until somebody else points it out.
Priya melts my heart she’s just so contagiously upbeat

Thank you for sharing your story with us! What a wonderful, sweet, and touching story of a mother who deeply cares for her family! ❤️
Good start to a weekend , with a dose of priya energy
Just now, with everything that has surfaced, I realise why all of the Priya-related content is about Indian/indian-related cuisine
Exactly. This always bothered me since Priya literally wrote a cookbook, her and Sohla's talents are wasted here tbh.
Lmao... If it was a white person you guys would whinge about it being cultural appropriation and how only a person of that ethnicity should do their cuisine.
Priya's videos are some of my favorites on the channel. The only way, that they could get any better would be if in one video her parents would actually show up to cook together with her *hint hint* '^^
priya: just trying to make friends in the test kitchen
priya: gets chutney in her eye as she mingles
I love her parents, they should have them as guests sharing some of their recipes with us.
*Currently sat twiddling my thumbs waiting for Claire’s Pop Rocks vid*
Her family stories behind her food are always awesome and when her parents call it's so heart warming
Priya you seem so just happy chill all the time and it just makes me feel better when I feel crappy.
I love the drug-deal style your dad and the lady had set up over a package of roti... I'm just imagining this lady covertly sliding roti thru her mail slot for young Priya. Lmao
she says Roti a million times then immediately calls them tortillas 1:33
Well the difference between the two is only the type of flour and the size.
@@dungeonseeker3087 and the name :)
Uhmm, you realized that they are both flatbread right?
Roti is the hindi word to describe it.
It's just that we tend to called them using their natives name instead of translating it to our own languages.
But either way, even though the ingredients might be slightly different, it's still the same thing. Variations, that's what we called them.
The kitchen may have only had tortillas.
There's a pop up that says, "If you don't have Roti, you can use wheat tortillas."
Oh my gosh I almost cried during the story about her mom making them roti pizza for the first time. So sweet. Very mom.
Huge crush on Priya! She is so cute talking to her parents, beautiful smile and always up energy, so cool!
Add ice cubes while blitzing the chutney it'll maintain its colour for longer
I love Priya! She’s so fun to watch, need more videos please 😊
Looks delish and simple!
I would LOVE to see more Pria videos. Her recipes are awesome and fairly simple.
Priya is SO one of my favorite people to see in videos. Her parents are adorable, she has a great personality, and she makes food that I would actually attempt at home. More of her pleeeease!
If I see the word pizza, then you know im going to watch the whole thing
i love the personal connection she has to her meals like no other...

I love how the test kitchen is just always ready for food.
I like that Priya’s mom feels the need to sneak off and cook non traditional or new dishes in secret 😂
Gabby is soo cute she's always so excited & grateful!

I love making naan pizza. It's cheep, easy and I have it at least once a week.
Me with cilantrophobia reading the title "Priya Makes Roti Pizza with Soap Chutney"
I know right... it looks amazing but I don’t want to taste chemical pizza
The cilantro in the eye outtake was classic. Reminded me of the time I got kimchi in my eye because I was so eager to taste my first batch!

That Lee Krasner shout-out is everything
LOVE PRIYA AND CHRIS... CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW CUTE CHRIS WASSS LOL
Chris is the best!!
This video was so wholesome and good!
Priyas family calling is the best part about her videos, the rest is great too but that wholesomeness is exactly why i adore BA
Toppings on the bottom, clearly a Chicago style roti pizza.
Putting chutney on the bottom wouldn't work, chutney needs to feel fresh and cold, if you cook it in the oven the whole experience would change for the worse.
Not disagreeing, just explaining why chutney (sauce) on the bottom like in New York style wouldn't work.
Yees nothing better than a roti pizza if you are a india craving for Italian flavors because I am 😋😋😜
Cilantro has a huge presence in the flavor profiles of both so it's a perfect pairing!
@@TorpeAlex yes TorpeAlex we have cilantro chutney etc ... here in India and you use cilantro in different dishes in Italy

I've been making these for years without knowing it was an actual thing
Priya is really adorable. My mom and I make random variations of pizza with Italian bread slices, but roti sounds good. I love the story behind it!
I love Priya's stories!! They are so much the shared experiences of first generation children!! And her parents need their own segment!!
The roti lady was actually Priya's grandma, her parents just never told her.
Haha
That hurts 😂
Priya doesn't need the others from the team to make a great pizza! Just her mom :)
It's incredibly sweet that her mom created this dish for her kids
spent a far more time than i intended today binge-ing priya vids... i want to try everything and am 1000% getting my mom her cookbook for the holidays. also... her parents :')
When Claire was doing the pizza dough episode I was thinking Naan bread dough would have been an interesting detour if they were doing a deep crust pizza.
Never heard of Roti before definitely will keep an eye for them : )
or Priya could do an episode on how to make them.
For sure!!
Its very simple use whole wheat flour, water and pinch of salt to make the dough.then use rolling pin to roll out small circle and then cook them ina shallow pan.use a little bit of oil on both side and take off the pan when cooked
Love the origin story!
Priya is so fun to watch!

@@dianafernandez2897 It's basically the Indian version of tortillas.
Diana Fernández Go back to the beginning of the video, she explains what it is.
Well both tortillas and roti are categorized as flatbread. The type of flour they used might be different, but the final products have similar form and taste.
