After binge watching the Killing Eve series last year, I bought the Code name Villanelle novel and loved everything!
For all I know the series adaption is among the most impactful shows on the viewer's mind of the last decade
The book's storyline shows consistency about ppl's characters. It always pushes VE's relationship forward, and developed a beautiful love story. I like the book!
The books is surprisingly great when judge it separately from the TV series. Especially for the simplicity in premise and plot. Eve's White, pushing 30, happily married, unfulfilled and malcontent. Her best passages are at MI6 where she's at her investigative best with her ability to decipher the character of a perpetrator just by state of the murder victims. She even called Villanelle her Black Rose. The Cat and Mouse element is more courtship than warfare. The best part is the difference in characterisation of Villanelle the Assassin for whom murder, money and decadence is the lifestyle, it's more all about power than respect. With the hits, she's cold, calculating and barbarous with minimal showmanship, depravity and egotism. Sex is as much a necessity as it's a power game played out in the chase before the submission of her conquests(mostly authority figures) who lose their mystery after seduction is complete. The different take on the Anna situation says how those who resist Villanelle's ilk are either idolised or dispised with equal intensity. She's no team player and valued Konstantin's life a lot less. She's less childlike and more matured as a quintessential primary psychopath. An emotional flatline.
You forgot the major difference between the books and the series: PHOEBE WALLER-BRIDGE.
Hm I'd argue the biggest difference now is that Luke Jennings didn't absolutely destroy their relationship in the last book, compared to the last episode...
I hope I'm not the only one who thinks Sandra Oh is a goddess😍
I usually prefer books to shows/movies, but it sounds like the show is way more interesting. Don't get me wrong, I still HAVE to read them.
seems PWB took a mediocre book series with interesting concepts and turned into something great
Exactly. Killing Eve is probably one of the rare shows that is much better than the books it’s based off of. You can even tell how PWB did a better job than Luke when they co-wrote the early drafts of the pilot episode (which is available on the internet). You could just tell which ones was written by phoebe, and which ones by luke himself.
The two villanelles are quite different. Where Vilanelle of books is focused by the power it can have over others, Villanelle of the show becomes more and more human. Her past is very different. I sincerely believe that you shouldn't expect to find any clues about Season 4 in the books. Even in "Die for me".
Take what I say with a grain of salt, but I think even in just this brief rundown of yours, it really shows how different a character can be portrayed when written for different gendered gazes and through different authorial experiences and contexts.
Book Villanelle power trips, which is written through the male gaze by a man, which is a telling of masculinity and authority (think military movies and their main audience; men like watching other men hold power and control). Compare this to screen Villanelle, and it depicts that redemption arc that women have historically loved for centuries of written literature (with women as the main audience for this show series). On the redemption arc, more specifically the increasing development and/or application of emotional intelligence of the character is favoured, here shown through Villianelle's journey from psychopathic assassin, to slowly becoming mellowed out from Eve, and becoming "more and more human", as you said. Take classics like "Beauty and the Beast", where the woman either saves or "corrects" a beastly, primitive man, into the perfect, ideal, civilised, prince charming.

Despite being a TV show character, KE's Villanelle has more depth to her character.
@@kartikeysingh2639 Oh, definitely. As I said, book Villanelle was the power tripper and the sexual beauty. Nothing much was explored, and those restrictions the author placed on her surface level characterisation were yet again restricted by his single outlook as a man. TV Villanelle was far more explored and put in danger, only to come back and save herself rather than wait for said "Prince Charming". Being of 4 seasons long and of visual media likely helped too, as well as having separate lead writers each time, all of whom are highly sort after and/or awarded in credits for their talents as such. Thoughts on the ending? I'm missing watching it today.
Very glad they allowed PW-B to put her spin on the story! But will read the books too
Haven’t watched most of the show, but what I have seen is impressive; Sandra and Jodi are terrific leads. Maybe I’ll read the books eventually
I don’t know who the actress that plays Nadia is, but she gets ignored for being an amazing actress here. In all of the films and shows I’ve watched, I have never seen an actor play scared so well in my life.
Why is NO ONE in this comment section talking about the fact that Carolyn, one of the show's MAIN CHARACTERS, doesn't exist in the books?? What the ACTUAL fuck?? That blows my mind!
Yeah, there is Richard Edwards instead but not the same character. There are similarities though.
@@erikaannabosnyak9307 Oh...;)
SAY WHAT NOW
@@Dioda787 Exactly what I said! Like...what-
WAIT THERE ARE KIILLING EVE BOOKS!!??????
Yep three of them , starting with code name villanelle , no tomorrow and the last book is die for me . They have their own humour but not like the tv program and yes they are horizontal dancing under the duvet .
There’s always a difference.

After watching killing eves series then close my eyes.
i love this show
I am glad they make scene when eve stab villanele, it way more interesting
WAIT I didn’t know about the books
WHAT!!!!! Eve doesn't stab villanelle
Yeah she did
Villanelle was most of the time awful with Eve at the books, but she redeemed herself at the end.
I didn't know this show was base off books
I came for thumb nail
Could I read the novel/book online?? Where to read, pls?? Cuz I have no money to purchase one 😭 I am broke af
Get a library card! More than likely your local library has access to the app Libby. You can get ebooks and audiobooks from there really easily! That’s how I’ve read/listened to a majority of books this year.
Never had a chance to watch any of these... anyone know if they're any good??
tapsweet Top 10 so good. Definitely recommend
It's worth seeing!
Actually it BBC America
Which is worth more?
the tv series for sure
Welp! Them running away together did not aged well.. I mean, they could possibly do that but the writers ruin the ending!
Does they kiss so many time in books? Just curious!!
Yes, they do far more than just kisses. But charactors are quite different and tension is much higher in the show.
UPDATE: the biggest difference? They get their happy ending in the books!!
This ending sucks more than that of the Sopranos!
One of the first comments. Whooo!!!! Yay
