- I play a Magic the Gathering Online Early Access Legacy set against @ThrabenUniversity with Bant Nadu StoneBlade, the newest combo-control deck from Modern Horizons 3! Patreon subscribed RGold gave me a dealer's choice to play whatever I want, and I wanted nothing more than to explore Nadu, Winged Wisdom's insane passive ability within a midrange blue control shell. Nadu gives you card advantage whenever any of your creatures is targeted. Shuko can target your creatures any number of times in a turn, if you flip lands into play with Field of the Dead that makes more creatures to target, rinse and repeat, off we go! We're Nadu-ing it right! MTG MH3

Seeing a Simic legend draw cards and put lands into play
*neurons activated*
Every commander player is salivating in Thrasios
Uro x3
Field of the dead is "nondeterministic" with shuko but with the right density of lands, it's very easy to win with thoracle or at the very least, dig through most of your deck
Feel like thoracle might be redundant in the face of the 10+ 2/2s you made to get there
@@soorian6493 Ideally you have some way to win on the spot somewhere...thoracle fits that
@@LarryActionGlass You shouldnt need to win on the spot if you just put your whole deck in your hand
2-3 force of wills with an army of 2/2 creatures is pretty much game no matter what lol, I would rather just play less bad cards tbh
This gets interesting in breakfast where you are playing oracle anyway
With Field of the Dead and constantly flipping lands into play, have you considered Yavimaya so you can tap your fetches when you're out of lands?
Yavimaya and Dryad Arbor both seem good here. Arbor being a nice stepping stone on the way up to field of the dead.
And green sun zenith as a way to get arbor or Nadu (the best card in the deck)
I'd be very surprised if Nadu is still legal in Legacy by Christmas.
seems doomed. but at least is a cheap card that can be fun to play with for a while.
I don’t think it’s THAT good. It still requires sorcery speed equipment to be useful, at least in this build
I wonder if Dryad Arbor and GSZ are correct in this deck.
DA is a creature that gets cheated in during the combo to add two more triggers.
Who doesn't love having Field of the Dead and putting cards in your hand without drawing. Orcish Bowmaster? Never heard of them.
It feels insulting that you can draw your deck with Nadu and Orcish Bowmaster just sits there and watches.
Guess it's a newer card, so Nadu has to beat the older card. Got to force the rotation.
Watching this after watching Phil's pov...they literally play each others turns before they happen. Like both of them are calling their moves before it happens and it's awesome to watch
Yep, I was right, Nadu is fucking _trivial_ to break
Actually trivial since Bosh did it *on accident*
😂@@christopherneil8265 You're not wrong.
I don't really see this as broken by any means. It's a worse Breakfast since if you don't hit Field of the Dead you can actually fizzle the combo, allowing your opponent the chance to remove Nadu on their turn. Even throwing Thoracle into the mix makes it maybe as good as Breakfast (It's not, but for the sake of argument I'm going to say it is because it doesn't matter). Breakfast is seeing less play in the current meta than Maverick right now.
It'll get played, sure, and probably played a lot, but nothing in this video screams "broken" to me.
@@ericdravenashecorven The upside this deck has over breakfast is that you don't have to put narcomeaba's or Nomads En Kor into the deck. The Nadu deck is less all in on the combo.
@@mangodude6790 That's a good point.
Ooooooooh so thats how everyone is drawing their entire deck with this thing.
29:25 cage also stops the cryptic coat you sided out
I don't think Nadu is intented for Legacy. I believe it's a way to bring the cephalid breakfast archetype to modern, while making it less potent (since dropping the combo doesn't always mean you win on the spot)
In some ways it's better, Illusionist trades 1 for 1 with removal at least
I think he put it well at 1:02:25
@@ohno5559 Ah i only watched the first game, didn't know about that. And i don't know wd can say it's better, because it's more expensive to get to, and sometimes you can brick. But yeah, Nadu is a better creature than illusionist, so there are upsides to it!
@@Jocorsha I think the strength of Nadu is in a less all-in deck. You can play it as a defensible threat even without Shuko, and if you do get Shuko you can probably crush your opponent under the crazy tidal wave of value even if you aren't actually going off.
Obviously it's better to just win on the spot with Illusionist, but I don't think there are really all that many games where going off with Nadu fails where going off with Illusionist would have succeeded. Definitely some, but proportionally not a ton.
The downsides are there, it's definitely less good at straightforwardly getting you a combo win, but in exchange you have a much stronger plan B and resilience to graveyard hate. I think that depending on the meta that's something you might really want.
Worth noting; forge anew makes your combo completely unable to be interrupted.
nah but field of the dead is INSANE with nadu lmao
Man, who'd have thought an equipment that draws 2 cards per creature would be broken?
Oh damn, Nadu makes Shuko into Skullclamp but better. I never even thought of that.
That deck was nuts, you missed a few times to flip tamiyo but with your engine online I can see why the flips where easy to miss.
1-800-ARE-YOU-FLAPPIN?!?! BIRD PACK GET EM HERE FOLKS
I'M FLAPPIN I'M FLAPPIN
Needs a 1-of Yavimaya to make sure those fetchlands always tape for mana (and for Field of the Dead, of course)
your new intro music sounds like that 1 riff every metal band makes, a7x as i lay dying, bvb, bfmv
14:45 literally fell out of my chair laughing when the Field hit.
so excited for this week of MH3 Decks!!!
This video is like Christmas morning. Watching you two duke it out match after match. Sign me up.
HOLY SHIIIIIIT what on earth happend to the 2 week backdrop why is this so early????? LETS GOOOOOOOO
I planned ahead and made room for this.
@@BoshNRoll absolute LEGEND also damn Nadu goes insane with field of the dead 😨
I kept hearing and somehow reading "nardu" and i am thinking.... Dude... you are BANT
Nadu and Kobolds into thoracle. Dryad arbor is also a land that gives you two triggers. Something is gonna get banned, but I hope we see more of this deck
I think that affinity is likely better than kobolds too. 4 separate 0 drop artifact creatures, Nadu, Urzas sagas, gaeas cradle becomes talarian academy, lotus petals, mox opals, etc
Just win turn 1? lol.
i was so stoked for nadu but after seeing this i tremble in fear for the "draw your whole deck easily" glue eating contest that is coming
This deck needs to be named something like bant vultures, since it revolves around a bird and field of the dead lol
This is exactly what I thought Nadu would do! Tbf: a lot of that work was out of the Field of the Dead, but Nadu is a great engine.
nadu feels like it could be a 5-8th copy cephalid illusionist in a more mid-range version of breakfast
Breakfast is breaking the format again for sure I think
Holy crap that Nadu turn.
You represent Bant. He was raised out in Thraben.
I wanna see how this does against rescaminator and delver. More games, more games, more games!
Always bolt the Bir...
wait, hold up.
I'm super curious to see if Nadu makes Cephalid Breakfast. Bowmaster killed Staff of the Storyteller.
I think Staff is a better backup plan than Stoneforge if there wasn't Bowmasters. That being said, Nadu can be an easy fit.
With Stoneforge and Saga, you can trim on Shukos anyway, and you only want 2 or 3 Nadu because it is legendary? With more reason to fetch Shuko, maybe you can also trim the backup Stoneforge hit (e.g. Batterskull, Lions Sash or Cryptic Coat)
Nadu draws way too many cards. Messes up the maths with Narcomoebas
@@senken12but it puts lands into play. So you could go down on fetches and add more duals, that way you can continue playing creatures.
@senken12 I don't think this is true at all. Drawing too many cards is never an issue.
Say you draw 20+, enough to actually affect the Dread Return math, you've likely drawn Oracle, plenty of Lands to cast it and multiple counter spells.
If you haven't drawn Oracle, you've drawn enough to draw another 20 next turn.
Nadu + Shuko is optional anyway
@@derekcline950 Fair. It'd be interesting to see if it works
Maybe add a copy of thassas oracle on the deck, or maybe a living wish?
Well, I'll definitely switch out my Serendib Efreets and Walls of Wood for Nadu and Tamiyo now!
bosh pack im not gonna lie i spent the entire weekend playtesting nadu and i really am so sick of this bird (in cedh) (in legacy i think its fun and fine)
This deck looks really interesting. The combo control archetype is always a challenge to play against and it will be interesting to see how this deck changes with time. I don't think it will ever be tier 0, but does looks like a cool argetyow.
I feel like pulling in a bit of the breakfast combo might be good. Just 2-3 narcos, 2 illusionist, thoracle, return. Nadu can get to thoracle pretty easilu, especially with field
why even bother playing the illusionist? just cut them and play nadu instead
@music00soba shuko+illusionist is a faster (t2) combo. That's my initial thought at least. It might be wrong of course, but it seems like a useful escape button where nadu+shuko is just value until you get a critical mass
And illusionist is deterministic, whereas nadu is powerful, and semideterministic only with field of the dead.
I already wanna see an updated list :-)
I have a feeling Nadu isn't long for legacy lol. Busted AF.
I don't know -- this is Legacy we're talking about. There's so much busted stuff you can do.
I wouldn't be surprised to see it banned, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see Nadu become simply one of the tier 1 decks.
I think this deck could use 1 Yavimaya to turn on the fetches once you start storming off
This is too much fun.
Dryad Arbor seems Really good in this deck. First green fetch land you hit with Nadu is just instantly 2 more triggers.
RIP Phil. May he rest in pieces.
With Field of the Dead you can definitely run Thoracle. I’ve seen some modern lists run Springheart Nantuko in lieu of Field
curious if you can slot Nadu into Celphalid Breakfast since it already goes "infinite" with shuko anyway. honestly, the fact that Nadu can just draw soooo many cards and empty your deck. it could be another alternate way to enable an oracle win. through a bridge or other attack-barrier
Seems like the list wants some Eldritch Evolution sort of effect to up your effective nadu count, since this IS pretty much a combo list. Your pieces are 6x4 right now which doesn't seem super reliable considering the deck reeaaally wants it online. Would also let you find a slick little 1-of Nomads en-Kor ;)
Saga seems like a great way to fetch Shuko and it may also provide you with more targets for it at the same time. Another possible route is some sort of Green Sun's Zenith package with a Dryad Arbor so your green fetches can get another creature for more triggers at moments llike 24:25, but also you can ramp and tutor for Nadu plus tech cards like Endurance.
I would love to see Nadu in with Lab Man or ThOracle. Ensure you have the ultimate eject button if needed. It's a fun build idea, but putting in Amulet of Vigor to ramp out mana is a stretch, but again, fun.
I wanna see this deck again with 1 oracle and some uras sagas. this seems good without going full breakfast.
Wonder if theres a Nadu/Staff of the Storyteller shell that doesnt get blown out by bowmasters
When I saw people trying Nadu-Stoneforge in Modern, I kept thinking that it draws an unreasonable number of cards but seems to have a hard time actually winning the game.
Field of the Dead in Legacy (and Timeless) certainly flips that... holy moly.
For Modern, I'm interested if it would be better to try to build Nadu like the Aspiringspike Beans Cascade deck that got Up the Beanstalk banned in Modern. Just Nadu, things that find Nadu or target Nadu, and ten zillion free pitch spells to make use of all the extra cards you end up with in your hand. It certainly seems like you get enough cards to make Commandeer reasonable, which was a signature of the Beans Cascade deck.
Timeless doesn't have Shuko though. I'm not sure it has any way to repeatedly target something for free.
@@L_O_V_E_L_A_I_N It does not, so Nadu will likely remain waiting in the wings for one of those cards to be part of the meta.
Force of Will is also pretty massive. If you just draw a bunch of card in Legacy, you can FoW their next two spells, and that's probably enough to win.
Please try a Nadu combo deck with Nadu, Shuko, urza's saga, step through etc. or just add step through x2 to this deck
Actual factual 1 Mana Planeswalkers…insane
Surely the Nadu deck should also play a single copy of thoracle. Really excited for the post-MH3 metagame.
I think it is very dependent on how you build your nadu deck if you want thoracle. If you are a very combo oriented version of the deck thoracle makes sense (scute swarm version?). But the build boshNRoll has made wins very often just through the value from the nadu+shuko+1-2 other creatures. Seems to me having a 0 mana way to repeatably target your creatures over multiple turns is enough (atleast in this build).
@@alexanderfive4308 That might be the correct build but also the possibility of having a single thoracle even in the sideboard might be interesting. I guess we will see a bunch of small deck building variations in the coming months.
I don't know. Maybe in the sideboard. If you pass the turn with 5+ zombies in play and 2 Swords to Plowshares + 2 FoW + 2 blue cards in hand, that seems like a win 95% of the time anyway.
Maybe another Field of the Dead to enable that engine.
Karakas to bounce nadu and give each creature a new instance of the "triggers twice each turn" ability sounds great. Why not just get 2 more triggers per creature?
Field of the dead was the all star!
I saw this and instantly bought 4 Nadu. I feel like it's only going up from here XD
Springheaet Nantuko bestowed onto an Uro would be some hot tech too. Or a stoneforge… prettt much any of our creatures lol.
This is almost a full Brian Coval special / bingo plate! bant and abusing shuko. Only thing missing is the basic island
28:20 is unequipping an equipment not a thing you can do? I thought you could take off an equipment for the equip cost, but correct me if im wrong because having a backup 0 equip would be nice.
That’s not a thing. Reconfigure creatures can come on and off, equipment needs a target.
4 seconds ago! Let’s goooooo! 🎉
I am so game for this deck
Oh I gotta sell my Shukos like yesterday
I know a lot of people are saying this is really broken but honestly, I think it's just a worse Breakfast since you can actually fizzle the combo if you don't hit Field of the Dead and give your opponent a turn to clean it up. Breakfast generally wins on the spot but this makes you pass the turn for this build, and even having Thoracle in the deck just makes it a Bant non-Cephalid Breakfast. I don't know, it's cool and did really well in a showcase, but I think it's far from broken.
This is also not a combo deck. It’s Bant Stoneblade with a crazy draw engine.
@@BoshNRoll That's fair. I'm more thinking for the future since it seems like a lot of people are really interested in the combo potential of the card.
I loved this deck, it looked like a lot of fun :)
On a scale of 1 to 10 how “cute” is forge anew? Our combo being completely uninterruptible seems decent and it returns our shuko or kaldra from the bin.
What would a CMC 1 blink do?
yea, double the available triggers thats what
Sequencing error at 14:10.
You have a Nadu in hand.
If you play nadu, their abilities are new abilities. You play nadu, then you draw another 8-10+ cards off of 3 mana.
Is nadu lands a thing that could happen?
36 sec Nadu Gang
can you replace Nadu in play with a new Nadu, keeping the new one so the "only triggers twice" part of the ability is reset?
Yep! Or you can ephemerate/karakas replay nadu
Veil of Summer isn't worthless, you can veil to fizzle all the valakut triggers right? Edit: i forgot the hexproof is color based
no dryand habour?
Sigh... Now i need to get a stoneforge package now
Yeah yeah, Nadu + Shuko busted especially with firld of the dead. But Flare of Cultivation + Veteran Explorer is actually really funny in the way that it's broken. Being able to use the Explorer mana instantly to cast any 2 drop in magic (bowmaster?), and getting a guaranteed 5 mana at least every turn of the game is busted as hell. Excited for nic fit to finally get the busted treatment.
57:15 Phil conceded anyway, but does recasting a Nadu and legend rule saccing the old one let you go again with everybody? Not sure given the somewhat different templating of the ability but intuitively it seems to be a different instance of the Nadu ability
Yes. You can use the legend rule to give your creatures a new instance of the ability, or find some way to blink it.
Now lets do Red Blue Green with Faithless Looting and discarding Anger for hasty zomboys.
Like, I don't know about adding another colour as I love bant for this, but I was really thinking that when you've vomited twenty zombies onto the battlefield a Haste enabler could be a good way of ending the game there and the. Single copy of Concordant Crossroads? I dunno.
@@RaphaelBriandI forgot about that card. Yes. Just a one of, and maybe 1 Thassas Oracle. Just lets you have 2 immediate end games 😊
It would be nice, but maybe just passing the turn with 30 power and several forces is just enough.
@@seandun7083Supreme Verdict is still a thing.
@@spyderman312 that's fair.
Would they ban Nadu or Shuko? It seems this jnteraction is so busted
Nadu 100%. Shuko is a pretty fair and classic card for Legacy, backbone of decks like Cephalid Breakfast.
If you legend rule your Nadu, it does in fact reset all your creatures. SPIN TO WIN BOOOIII
Yessss open the floodgates
Release the MH3
Round 1 vs DnT if you had swords'd the Thalia at 7:35, you would have had Nadu + Stoneforge online off of the double ponders
Bananas bird level magic
Nadblade
why no thassas oracle?
Because this isn’t a combo deck.
Cephalid breakfast nadu when?
what am i missing, why don't you just play veil of summer at 1:00:00? doesn't it safe you from scapeshift->valakut? valakut does target, right?
Valakut is not blue or black.
Bringing oops all spells with slightly different lands is like the lamest thing ever to bring to an mh3 preview lol
How come your not using scute swarm won’t that make the combo go faster??
Use Springheart Nantuko if you want speed
@@Alikaoz I just thinking it would makes more body 🤔 don’t you have pay 2 to get a insect from his effect??
I built this version to be a functional Legacy deck even when you're not comboing. Scute Swarm isn't a Legacy playable card. It is reasonable to build this in a much more combo-focused version that plays faster.
@@stevengunn3532I thought so too but I think if you pay two, you get a copy of the bestowed creature. If you don’t, you make an insect
@@fergusfisher1315 you could be right it’s not most easy to work out with how it’s put 🤔
are you going to
get shuko banned?
Not in Legacy. This isn't more broken than Breakfast. Modern... who knows.
I'm just going to say it, Nomads would draw so many more cards than Shuko.
Yes, but you have to balance for that card being terrible when you don’t have Nadu. Shuko being tutorable makes it less likely to gum things up if you’re not going off. All-in versions will exist, this just isn’t that.
It's like 0 testing went into whether Nadu was broken.
Definitely not test that card or read the wording on it seem I had read card like 3 times when It was spoiled just confirm it gave everyone that effect, even fact adding only twice each turn isn’t even a down side
Hit thw bird, draw some cards...... but better
Call the customer service center! Legacy is broken!11!!
Is it possible to lower the volume of the intro music? It’s scared my wife awake a few times when I watch them at night lol
nadu is gonna get banned in edh so fast
Shockingly irresponsible card design is a hallmark of the modern horizons sets so I don’t know why I’m surprised. Still, Nadu is remarkably broken even considering that. Sigh. Too bad because lots of the set looks fun; nonetheless, if this garbage remains legal for any appreciable amount of time it’s gonna make the meta unbearable.
Oh hey yet another simic value engine card. Wotc has made so many mistakes with these lately I'm sure they learned their lesson, right?
Where are you guys still playing legacy. There's no GPs or SCG coverage.
That was disgusting even with a real obviously rough draft deck
Oops all spells boooooo phil come on
