My soundtrack to an unmade film, H.P. Lovecraft's 'At the Mountains of Madness'.
An expedition to Antarctica goes horribly wrong when a team of scientists discover a terrible ancient secret frozen in the ice. The history of earth is unraveled in a terrifying discovery of an ancient civilisation, and their war for dominion over the earth. William Dyer, and his colleague Danforth, implore those who follow to never set foot on the continent again....

Literaly using this as the soundtrack while I read the book for the first time. What a masterpiece.
I read an interview with Del Toro complaining about how the film studios wanted to make substantial changes to the story, introducing a love interest, altering the ending. He said he could not make the film under those circumstances. He says he's a great admirer of Lovecraft and always wanted to make a film of Mountains. Maybe someday he'll finance something himself or work out a deal where he has total creative control. I'm don't consider myself a Lovecraft expert although I have read most of his works and I don't recall too many love interests in there! Your music is amazing.

I was always surprised he didn't have enough clout to make any film he wanted at this stage and not have to deal with interference like that. Delighted you enjoy the music though!
Who wants a love interest in a type of story where everybody goes mad or dies horribly, featuring scary albino penguins, shoggoths and the elder ones??
If I recall correctly, Del Toro said that the script/theme to Prometheus was far too similar to what he intended to do so he gave up on it. He even had the support of James Cameron at one point.

Is it weird that I find these videos somehow relaxing? They help me to write, but not just the creepy stuff, all of it. Something about Graham's music just helps me focus and forget any stress.

@@matthewseanmclachlan I read it, and... meh. It's not all that good. It comes off as a serviceable action flick at best, and not a very original one. I don't know what Del Toro was aiming for, but it isn't Lovecraft. It's like a rip off of The Thing.

I've clicked through so many videos, through so many incredible, weird ambient landscapes... I feel like I'm going on a train trip, seeing a succession of crazy, never-before-seen scenes from history, important, weird musics through the window as I pass... there's so much to explore. So many places to alight and dwell in the ambiences that are on offer. This stop, in particular, is brilliant 😜
How have I only discovered this now?! At the Mountains of Madness is my favorite Lovecraft novel; this music really captures the moods set throughout. Thank you so very much for sharing these wonderful evocative compositions!

It is a tremulous if occultly subtle thrill to hear "Lovecraft music" that in the manner of a corespondence out of Agrippa actually share a spiritual umami with Lovecraft's literary issue!
This was first novel by Lovecraft I read, and after several years, I read many of his stories, and got many amazing feelings and inspirations
This is without a dobt one of the best composers of all time. Simply wonderful!

I wish I could hit the like button this a second time. "The Horror at the Camp" is mesmerizing. It could easily replace one of Morricone's cues from Carpenter's "The Thing" and it would work beautifully. It would bring out the quiet menace and nuance.

This ambient compilation is really impressive. I've heard a lot of 'em, but only this makes some strange creepy gut feelin'.
And, speaking of Gou Tanabe... seconds after that last post, I found out that his Manga adaptation of Mountains of Madness is being re-released in July of 2024 as a deluxe, hardback, 7x10" volume from Dark Horse - YAY!!

I’m reading the manga by Gou Tanabe while listening to this soundtrack and I swear, every time the music gets more intense, it’s perfectly timed to something suspenseful happening in the book. 10/10 recommend trying it out:))
