Thank you for such a loving demonstration of care and suctioning. Many of the hospital videos are so mechanical and complex. It is refreshing to see how it is a normal part of life for children with a trach.
Do you mind sharing the condition that caused you to have a trach. What have been the challenges in life after the trach. I ask as a parent of trach child that is in the process of leaving the trach behind. If you wish not to share, I understand.
@John R I had a birth defect in my air. The trachea is made up of a stack of rings of cartilage that gives the lining of the airway its structure. Well, the rings of cartilage in my airway were lumped together in one spot, and the lining of my airway where the rings of cartilage should have been wasn't there to give it its structure. The airway lining collapsed together like a milkshake through a straw when I tried to breathe in. This is called trachealmalasia. I couldn't breathe when I was born. I had to be intubated and taken to the NICU. I was intubated for weeks until the doctors put in the trache. I had a couple of reconstruction surgeries as an infant and toddler to fix the birth defect. They took cartilage from my rib cage and made little rings of cartilage and graphed it back into my airway where the airway lining didn't have the rings of cartilage.
@John R The only challenge in life is voice quality. I have a very soft and raspy voice. This might be the case for kids who have had multiple surgeries on their airway and developed internal scar tissue. Doctors have to operate around the vocal cords, and that can cause scar tissue to form around and on the vocal cords.

Measure the new trach ties before taking off the old trach ties and have it lying behind his head before removing the old trach ties. Makes it much safer if the child becomes restless or agitated

I had a trach from the time I was a newborn baby (in 1982) until I got it removed for good at the age of 3 1/2 years old in 1986.

Just a question why suctioning if there’s no sign of occlusion? It seemed the boy was doing fine and there was no need to suction ...
He was bubbly (secretions) it’s hard to hear in the video but when she suctions you can hear it picks it up
my son was born 1lb 3oz, he had to get a teach to help him breathe.
My great grandson weighed 1 lb 4 oz. He will be coming home with a trach. How is your son doing now?
